  1. I'm finally done converting my S308. :) It's a 21" with a OD K-Var stock set and Dinzag internals. I took it out for some informal test firing, and was quite impressed. :up: Hopefully soon I can get it to a real range and see what it can do off a bench.

    I took a pic of it with it's buddies, a Bushy M4A3 and a pair of SKS's;

  2. I just purchased a Dinzag conversion kit. Also waiting as well.

    I went to Dinzag because everyone else seems to be out of stock on the Tromix conversion parts I needed.

    Dinzag's site stated that theirs is a "true drop-in" conversion. Does this mean that their conversion kit is more complete than others?

    It was either waiting for Tromix parts to be back in stock or for Dinzag's lead time to get the parts to me. I figure the lead time is because he makes the parts special to each order to ensure a trouble free conversion. Is this so? Or is it no different compared to other conversions?

    I believe the kit is a drop in.

    I got a gas tube I ordered a while after I ordered the conv kit the other day, so somebody's working is shipping at least. I've had the kit on order since 3/7 so I'm hoping it won't be much longer. :unsure:

    OK!! I got the parts in Monday, but couldn't get to work on the S308 until the last two nights. The first night everything went together without too much difficulty, till I got to the FCG. Pretty much stoped there, it was getting dark, and belly was growling. Last night I dove right in and went to work on the trigger group. Boy, I'm glad there's only one PIA part, and that's the BHO spring. Three hands, heavy dose of cuss words, and 15-20 minutes of "What?, Why?, Where?. Persistance pays and life is wonderful. I have a fully converted S308 to get to know better. I do have some questions, though. Something to do with the BHO not working, hanging down too much, in the way of the trigger kinda of thing. I'm gonna do some post searching and try to figure this thing out. Some poor Joe has been down this road before and left some helpful hints, I hope. Otherwise, I don't believe this should hinder normal operation of the rifle, albiet without the BHO functioning.(Kinda like a standard AK)

    I'll check back later with either results, or questions. (And hopefully soon with a range report) :)

  4. Does anyone know where to get the Dinzag kit without having to use Dinzag's site?

    They use PayPal ( :devil: ) and they cannot validate my card(?). I have no problem using it anywhere else.

    Or, is there any other mfg's that make a "drop-in" kit for the 308? I know Dinzag uses a modified Tapco kit and I'd like to have one I don't have to file or reshape. How about the RSA kit for the VEPR 308?

    Another question; where is the best place to get a lower handguard retainer for a K-Var furniture kit?

    Any help would be appreciated, my S-308 is begging for a new look.

  5. as far a scope mounts go i personally like the utg ak side mounts.me being left handed i need something centered over the rifle unlike some of the ones i've seen that seem to be more towards the left side of the rifle. they are solid mounts and allow you to strip the rifle for cleaning without removing the mount. and they are like 30 bucks.

    drawbacks with the utg mount include.

    can't use the iron sights without unscrewing the 3 hex bolts that mount up to the side rail. so its not quick detach like others.

    some fit really tight the one on my wasr10 has to be knock with a mallet to remove.

    i believe if you wanna use some of the high cap mag options you listed you'll have play the ATF's rifle part game. the easiest way in my opinion is to do a pistol grip conversion with us made fcg, buttstock, and grip.

    The hi-cap mags aren't that important for this rifle's role.

  6. My Glock 22 is not my most favorite handgun, it also is not my least favorite.

    I trust it 100%, it has always functioned 100%. I will never part with it.

    Am I a fan, sure. Am I a Glock-aholic? Not really.

    Many Glock owners wouldn't be caught dead with a non-Glock handgun. I like all kinds, and own many dependable handguns.

  7. I have a Saiga 308 and I am looking for input on the following adds;

    Bi-pod, Harris, Versi-pod, etc.

    Scope mount (have plenty scopes already) Side mount?

    17 or 20rd mags (Liberty?)

    I'd like to set up this rifle as a long range, fixed position MBR.

    I have other rifles for closer in work. (M4A3, SKS, Camp 45, Persuader, etc.)
