  1. Mid Barrel Comps are tricky and require alot of tuning to get it running right. If you haven't put your gas block back, do it. Also, if you have moved it back, then what gas puck are you running? If you have the lightest competition spring in your gun from CSS, then you need to increase the velocity of the bolt back.

Take out the return spring and slowly, gently, move the bolt to the rear and feel for any resistance... you should tie the trigger back with a string as the bolt will be cycling with the trigger held and has different contact with the hammer when it's in the disconnecter and when it's in the trigger hooks. Tie the trigger back, push the hammer into the discon, and slowly move your bolt carrier back and forth. First, do it with the bolt in, then take the bolt out and feel again. IF the bolt is not in the gun and your carrier feels like it has little-no resistance other than momentarily on the hammer, you're doing good. Also, if you're still using the stock wound-spring hammer-spring, replace it with a reduced power one. Shotgun primers are soft... you don't need all that force. Try to eliminate all the un-necessary friction/contact during the cycling.

You mentioned short-stroking, so you need more energy going back. Either more gas, less weight, or less return-spring and hammer spring resistance. Just test test test. Once you go porting/mid-brake/magwell, it takes the right balance to get the gun to work right, you end up riding the line between function and speed. I use a magwell on mine but have put 500 rounds through each of the mags for that well to be sure they work. If the mag has FTF/FTE or more than 1 out of 50 rounds or so, i will fix it. You really really really have to work at it to get the gun working like it should. Remember, putting a mid barrel comp on the gun at, say, 14" you've reduced the ability to gain pressure or hold pressure for the next 4-5" of barrel.... Hope that helps.

  2. unfortunately there really is not alot of gas pressure at the muzzle for ports to work and the baffles would need to be large (a-la Maxrounds, or a Barret 50cal tank-brake style) to work. The muzzle attachments out there for a 12ga are mostly for looks. they work but not like a rifle brake. You won't see a 50% reduction in recoil or anything, so get one that also looks cool from any of the reputable dealers on this site. I think Carolina Shooter's Supply has a good selection.

  3. Cutting the barrel down past 18" is silly IMO.

One, you lose the ability to take off the comp/brake and with some matches allowing IRON-SIGHT and NON-Ported/Comp'd Saigas in Tactical instead of open, being able to take off the brake is something i would want.

Also, you'll get MUCH more performance out of CHOKES than you will with any other muzzle attachment. For the muzzle brake to do anything, it needs to vent gasses away and most 12ga attachments have very little surface area to work with.

IMO, if i were starting over and making a 12ga competition gun i'd do the following:

Ghost ring sights for irons with a clamp on barrel front post, no mid-barrel comp, no magwell. Internally rem-choked barrel at 18.25" and a shortened gas system... And for an optic a quick detach red-dot either on the rail or drilled and tapped into the rear of the receiver (ALA- http://store.carolinashooterssupply.com/servlet/-strse-311/Saiga-sight-mount-JTE/Detail)

With a little practice, you can load a full mag on a closed bolt and you never have to fiddle-fuck around with tweaking the mags.

What you gain with a mid-barrel comp, you could also gain with a shortened gas system shooting 7/8 oz loads at 1300fps.

  4. Hold it.

    She doesn't want anything else?

How about you buy her an 8 lb weight and let her do a few curls? Seems a cheap alternative. She gets stronger, instead of the gun getting lighter.

Can you post a picture of the rifle you have for her?

If she knows how to use the AK why not just try to help her get a bit stronger? It's not like the AK weighs a ton...

I'd recommend buying a 3, 5, & 8lb weight and just working with her on some strength training.... She keeps the AK and you get a stronger woman. win-win.

  5. It Fed the rounds fine, but the tension on the 11-14 was high, so my bolt lost ALOT of energy and failed to close that last bit where the extractor claw rides up. I've since cut a few coils and will be going back to the range to re-test. The design is not bad, and is very promising. I'm excited for the S-20 community.

P.S. I've not yet done bolt mods or polishing to my 20. It's in the most basic conversion stage. Just dropped parts in and shot it. Nothing special yet. Will update with mods to tweak function / reduce drag etc. at a later time :)

  6. It was a stolen gun, not a legal one, and he only had one shot because the recoil caused the idiot to bump the mag release, or the weapon was resting on the doorsill/window because he was trying to operate it one handed. (I'm guessing the scenario given the dropped mag at the point the shot was fired.)

I just hate to hear "Saiga shotgun" and "Banana mag" associated with the crime.

They should have given him attempted 1st degree murder... as that is unquestionably what it was. But this tool will be back out on the streets in a short time to try this again. That's the REAL scary part of the story. A lax court system that releases violent criminals after softening their sentences.

    IMHO

Not exactly, his buddy reported it stolen and then the police came down on him and the buddy gave up the shooter. Was not stolen, was "Borrowed".

  7. Kentucky implemented monthly NICS checks on concealed weapons

So yeah they actually did have that many. Plus the article is only reflecting the past 18 months of NICS checks.

In FL they skip the NICS if you have a CCW right?

And that does not count actual purchases of firearms, because I normally buy several at the same time (hey they charge $5 for the background check).

They don't skip the background check, only the waiting period.
