  1. Another option you might want to look at is Dinzag's AK-74 style S-12 brake. I just installed mine and it also looks impressive. I had a TROMIX shark brake that I destroyed the threads on so I have to order another from him.

How do the two compare in helping muzzle rise? Which one is more effective?

How did you destroy the tromix threads?

  2. Narrowed down to Tromix shark or factory Russian one avaiable at the estore.

I know tromix looks better (at least on a conversion), but am curious if the Russian factory one prevents rise better?

Anyone compared the two? Function over form is what matters to me.

    Thanks,

The russian break has slots all the way around, so I really cant see it helping to keep the weapon from rising,

The Tromix shark break has slots on the left and right to help with recoil if I have it figured correctly, and 2 holes on the top to allow gas to go that way and help keep the muzzle down. Again, if I have it figured correctly.

I really like the Tromix shark break, you cant beat the looks although I have not had a chance to shoot my shotgun since getting it.

Also the slots on the sides of the Tony's brake are angled back which should help with the recoil by the gases giving some forward push on brake. But like I said I've never tested either.

I like the looks of the tromix too, but since there is no ident pin like on a regular ak, how do I know the holes will be on top when tightening it down?

  3. I love mine and it doesn't feel awkard at all to me, the pistol grip and stock count as 2 parts, you only need 3 on a semi-auto shotty from what I understand, so get a US made gas piston (available from a member here) and use any mag. If you want to return it to stock config. you could in about 10 minutes total.

    any pics of your configuration?

  4. From the factory, my gas port was set on 2. I changed it to 1 and shot rounds through it fine.

I took apart the gas tube, cleaned it, put it back together.

Here is my dumb question. When does the port let more gas into piston - when it is "tight" or "loose".

I assumed a tighter nut would mean more gas into chamber, looser =less, but am not sure.

THe reason I ask this is because when reassembling the gas tube, I tightened it all the way, then backed off to first notch, which happened to be 2. I then backed off again to 1, making an even larger gap between valve and tube.

I read in the FAQ that after tightening, it should be backed off to 1 (first) setting.

SO my question is this, does a smaller gap between valve and tube = more or less gas into piston, or vice versa?

  5. Thanks to everyone for their advice and suggestions.

I fixed the problem. Apparently, the rear lug was too tall as I had suspected. I took an emery board to it (courtesy of my wife  ), and filed a little, inserted, filed a little, inserted, etc. about 20 minutes later, the mag was locking into place!

Hopefully, my future mags will not be this much trouble.

  6. Just got my Saiga-12 and the factory 5rd mag will not lock into place. I am assuming I need to take a dremel to the rear plastic lug where the lever will clear it.

    Is the the normal fix?

This happens if the mag is loaded or unloaded, bolt closed or open. I can see the mag latch is not catching the lug.

Sorry, I can't seem to find the procedure on the board - when doing a search all kinds of unrelated things come up.

    Thanks in advance.

  7. Can you be a little more specific?

Are you trying to install the mag loaded or empty?

On a closed bolt or with the bolt open?

Dd you buy the gun new or used?

22 Shooter is correct - that's not normal. Before you take a power tool to anything, I'd look for another solution.

    Jim

    Tried mag loaded and empty

    Tried both open and closed

    Gun is new

The other mag that works locks into place empty or loaded, closed or open bolt...

  8. That's not normal at all. You shouldn't have to modify your 12 for your factory mag to fit into your factory shotgun. Maybe post some pics, or be more descriptive and someone will be better able to help.

When I insert the mag, the mag release lever is not clearing the plastic rear lug at the upper back portion of the mag. I tried another one, and it clicks just fine. I have seen references on here about having to file mags to make them fit and thought this might be normal to remove excess mold plastic.

Comparing the bad and good mag, they look identical except the bad one seems to have a little taller rear lug.

Sorry if this explanation seems nonsensical. I will try to post pics.

  9. Just got my Saiga-12 and the factory 5rd mag will not lock into place. I am assuming I need to take a dremel to the rear plastic block where the lever will clear it. :cryss:

    Is the the normal fix?

Sorry, I can't seem to find the procedure on the board - just references to filing and cutting.

    Thanks in advance.

  10. dont waste your time or money.

I sold all of mine, I sure as hell wasent going to test fire all 21 AGP mags I had to find out which ones function and toss the rest, then load and test fire the ones that functioned again, and again, and again, just so i know which ones I Think will work. In the process firing off like 1,000 rounds through my tromix shotgun.... Then repeat on my other guns.

save your pennys and buy the more expencive russian 8rd mags like I did and be happy with magazines that work.

8rds that feed reliably is better than 10rds in a magazine that dosent work.

Where can the 8-rounders be found. Gunbroker does not have any (their stuff is way too high anyway).

  11. This subject has recently been beaten to death on the forum. Not meaning to avoid your question, but I don't see what else can be said that wasn't already said about them in a couple of recent threads.

Yes, I know - some people say they are garbage, some love them. I was trying to get specifics on those that like them - did they work out of the box, or were mods done.

  12. After researching these mags here and other places on the Internet, I have no more knowledge for a decision than when I started. Please, give me some real world info.

Do the new 2nd gen mags without mods to the gun? To me, any product that requires modification is not worth having (that is why I am waiting on the MD drum instead of buying the WM).

Assuming question above is yes, are they reliable? A FTF only once in 10 rds is still unacceptable.

Should I spend my money on factory 5's. Honest input is appreciated.
