  1. I take it you haven't done a lot of long-distance shooting? I've shot targets out to 500m with irons but anything beyond that I'd certainly need a scope. A lot more goes into long distance shooting that simply having optics though. As a matter of fact I have done some High Power shooting. As you may or may not know irons are used in these competitions out to 600 yards. It takes a talented shooter to shoot it clean, but I've hit my fair share of bullseyes at 600 with irons.
  2. If he was using the irons I'd be impressed, but with a scope what's the big deal?
  3. Mine went in without a hitch. The only thing I'd like to do is intall a washer to cut down on the slight "side to side" play of the trigger. I"m just about done with my conversion, I only need to weld up the safety catch. As it is now the safety does not work at all.
  4. Receiver is ok, just barely got into it. The pins are still rock solid with the retainer, so it's nothing a little black paint can't fix up. I'm still stunned at how f'in stupid I was . I had definately been reading up on the conversion, but none of the stuff I found was 308 specific. I was referencing cross-conn and the videos up on youtube. I knew the 308 conversion was a little different than the 7.62 and .223 conversions, but got a little caught up in the whole excitement of getting it done that I didn't think it through. Chalk it up to experience I guess.
  5. that sound you heard was me throwing up. In the words of Napolean Dynamite, "Idiot!" guess I gotta get some new pins
  6. should have specified. It's the 308. The stock trigger and pins are riveted in and I'm tring to remove for the PG conversion
  7. I can't seem to get the trigger and hammer pins out! I used a 1/4 inch carbide bit to get rid of the expanded shoulder, but they won't budge. Tried drilling even further but I'm starting to get into the receiver. Any suggestions?
  8. Alright, so I'm an idiot . I just took the time to read the whole document. It appears that converting an acceptable firearm (stock Saiga) is different (10 or less foreign parts) than building an evil gun from scratch (less than 10 foreign parts).
  9. It seems that on all the forums I've looked at they say to convert to "Evil" AK configuration you can only have a max on 10 imported parts. So I decided to take a look at the text on the ATF site and it says: "Further, an acceptably redesigned semiautomatic copy of nonsporting firearm must be limited to using less than 10 of the imported parts listed in 27 CFR 478.39©." The list of imported parts is the usual barrel, receiver etc.. Here is a link to the complete document ATF link So a reasonable person would assume that less than ten means 9 or less. So which is it? I'm in the pro
  10. If you have converted your Saiga, don't even look at the Saiga stuff on the Ace site. You'll use the receiver block for standard Kalashnikovs. Ah hah! I knew something was weird. I ordered the set for the converted receiver. Should have all my parts soon, and will be ready to de-feminize my 308.
  11. Anybody tried it in the 308? Easy fit? Any problems?
  12. I'm considering the Ace folder for my 308 conversion, but have a few questions. If I don't mod my receiver then I need to user their "receiver block" which the folding mechanism, stock, and pistol grip attach to. Check me if I'm wrong, but if I've moved my FCG group forward won't that put the pistol grip too far back? It seems like the pictures I've seen of rifles with this setup are using the stock FCG position. At least that'ts the way it looks to me.
