  1. Hey guys,

I've been stocking up on some 12ga Winchester SuperX (rabbit & squirrel) #6, 2 3/4", 1oz., 3 1/4 DR. EQ. ammo (box of 25). I looked through my older inventory of ammo of SuperX and they are brass rimmed (high brass?). The newer ones I have recently bought (same brand & specs) are low brass (silver). I don't recall shooting any of the low brass (silver rimmed) SuperX through my S12.

Have any of you guys noticed this change? Should I set the gas setting on #1 to shoot the #6 (rabbit & squirrel) SuperX high brass on my S12 or just set it at #2?

  2. Which is generally better in a 19" S12 in regards to reliability? 3 or 4 gas ports? Do all the newer 19" model S12s have only 3 gas ports? My older 2001 S12 has 4 gas ports. Are the 3 gas ports in the newer models drilled out bigger or are they the same size as the 4 gas port models? I'm going to be picking up a new S12 soon.

  3. Is this a modified ACE product or is it a different manufacturer? I know ACE's receiver block has a cut out that secures to the pistol grip nut from the inside. I would use the ACE receiver block but I don't plan to cut out the bottom of my receiver for a pistol grip nut. I will be using a Saigatech or Tac-47 Industries DIY trigger guard for a traditional AK grip.

  4. I have a UTG quad rail for my WASR10. My Larue Tactical FUG would not fit and my Magpul XT rail covers do not sit flush on the rails which causes the rail covers to flare out. The rail is not in spec. I will upgrade to an Ultimak later. I'm not too sure about UTG's quad rail for the S12 but I'll pass.

  5. If I have a brand new un-converted S12 with a threaded muzzle and I want to use a magazine in excess of 5 rounds (AGP or Surefire 10/12 round mag), would I be 922R compliant? Would I need to add any US parts to the S12 if I am just using a US brand "high capacity" mag and shooting it with the conventional sporting stock?

  6. Can you guys remind me why I need to grind that pointed part off the hammer? I'm trying to find a pic. Can someone post a link?

Because there's a bigass cross member right in front of the hammer pivot axis?

    Thanks guys.

This cross member is only found in the S12s.

You'll see it when you open the gun up.

    Thanks guys.

  7. I have an older 2001 S12 (No muzzle threads or BHO lever) that I want to convert. If I purchase a Tapco G2 FCG modified by Dinzag Arms, do I use the factory hammer spring from my S12 or does it come with Dinzag's FCG? I might be also looking at Tromix's and Tac-47's FCGs. Which one would you guys recommend?

Yes you can reuse your factory hammer spring or use a jt engineering spring. If you plan on making a slot for the bho then you will need to make a slight bend on the right spring leg on either spring to clearance for the lever. I used a tromix modified fcg. Drop in easy. No other mods needed. If you don't plan on cutting the bolt hold slot then just buy the standard tapco g2 and you could always run a krebs modified safety lever. For the barrel threading, I believe one of the vendors rent out the materials to do it yourself

If he doesn't have a BHO lever or BHO spring, why would he want to cut a slot?

Since you brought it up, he'll need a shim for the hammer (it's been relieved for the BHO lever).

I thought in his original post he wanted to install a bho

I might modify it later for a BHO lever but most likely not. In a few months, I will be picking up a new S12 but I will still keep my old one.

Then I would go with the standard Tapco G2 FCG and reuse your stock spring. You will only have to grind down the pointed hump on the hammer axis and you should be good to go.

  10. My S12 has been 100% reliable with all the loads I have shot through her. My actual post for this thread is in regards to my cousin who should be receiving his new S12 in a couple weeks. I will be going with him to give it a look-over and I just wanted to find out how many port holes his newer model S12 should have before he picks it up from his FFL dealer. I will keep my old ass S12 because she has never let me down and I eventually will do the mods myself. I still want to pick-up a newer IZ-109 model. One will have nice wood stocks and the other will be set up in a tacti-cool configuration. I will attempt to do a conversion on my older model first.

  11. I just looked at mine and checked it with a flashlight and a paper clip. It has 3 ports in the triangle pattern. It is stamped 2001 on the receiver but the barrel is not threaded and there is no BHO lever. Is mine considered the newer model?

No. The lack of factory BHO pegs your gun as "really old"

I've seen '06 and '07 guns with 4 ports and they ran fine. Then came the vodka specials, and lately the 19-inchers seem to be of the 3-port variety and run fine.

Some 4 port guns have the gas block too far forward or aft on the barrel, which blocks the 4th port in the diamond pattern. If your gun runs well, though, it's probably not a big deal.

Dude that S*#@ is not funny. Now I have to buy a newer model. ;)

  12. Hey guys,

It has been a while since I've come on here. Anyways, my cousin ordered a S12 with 19" barrel from Arms of America and it should be here in a couple weeks. I've heard about the Vodka Specials that were out maybe months or a year ago. Has anything changed with quality control at the Ishmash factory. With the new 19" S12s, how many gas port holes should there be? My personal S12 (19" barrel, no muzzle threads and no bolt hold open) which is an older model only has 3 gas port holes and 2 gas settings. Do the new S12s have more than 2 gas settings? I just want to be able to go over my cousin's S12 when it arrives. What is a good way to break her in? Should he use high brass/low brass and how many?

  13. Hey guys,

It's been awhile since I've been on here. Anyways, I was at the range yesterday taking out my cousin from Cali for some shooting. We started off shooting birdshots on gas setting number 2. I loaded a 5 round mag with some Winchester 3" slugs and forgot to switch the gas setting to number 1 :cryss: . Everything functioned fine but how bad is it shooting slugs or 00 buck on gas setting number 2? I only shot 5 rounds. I removed the dust cover and everything seems fine. Would my S-12 be ok?
