  1. If you cut your barrel below the arbitrary 18" with the INTENT of attaching a permanent brake, and then DO attach a permanent brake you have still committed a sin in the eyes god (the atf).

    because he says so?

    if that were the case..

TECHNICALLY swapping barrels on an AR15 would be illegal.. because the rifle somewhere in the middle would be too short..

TECHNICALLY swapping stocks on SOME shotguns would be illegal because in the middle it would be too short..

actually to take it a step further..

if the barrel MUST ALWAYS be 18in + to avoid having the gun being "sbr"

then rifle conversions would also be illegal.. because at the point when the stock is off the gun.. if you cut the tang.. the gun that is in front of you (incomplete) is technically a hair too short.. it would by his definition for that moment be an illegal SBR...

    which is absurd..

there is no way that if you break the gun down.. cut the barrel and weld on a brake in one sitting you are breaking the law..if you really want to be neurotic about it.. drop the FCG out as you do the work.. strip it down.. at that point while the barrel may still be in the receiver it is not a working firearm..

there is no doubt an established qualified gun smith will do a good job..

but to imply they are the ONLY individuals granted the right to do so.. I disagree..

  2. I have an S12 and have had no issues with it.. tonight I was shooting some lighter ammo and grabbed some shells that felt like they cycled harder and I am unfamiliar with..

I don't know a ton about shotgun ammo other than light ammo goes on 2 and heavy ammo goes on 1..

well this ammo that was mixed in got shot through the gun on 2.. cycled hard I do not notice any broken parts.. cracked anything.. nor do I know anything about the ammo.. they were just shells that were mixed in with my other shells..

    the ammo is "super X" 2 3/4 1 1/4 4 shot on setting 2

did I make a big mistake.. any issues?

    anything I should look at?

    thanks

  3. Thank you for clarifying that . Would you be kind enough to post the complete letter?

I find the notion of not being legally allowed to work on your own gun appalling..

sure if you cut your barrel down to 10in and then put it away in your safe.. and come in contact with LEO and they take notice.. you are likely screwed...

but if you are working on your gun.. there has to be a little bit of reason understood..

if what you are saying is true.. it would be impossible to do something as simple as change out a stock on a gun that netted "too short of a length".. if what you are saying is true an AR "lower" would be a SBR since the lower is the part that is considered a firearm..

obviously you can not put a pistol upper on an AR lower and just leave it there and use the excuse you are "working on it" but for something like a Saiga 12.. if the gun is apart.. in pieces.. while being worked on.. the length of the barrel during that process should be moot.. just as the OAL of a gun is moot while changing the stock..

  4. Did you have it switched OFF? The unit powers down with the cover installed and in the ON position but still is uses some power. Mine don't last longer than a year but I glued the switches in the ON position so it wouldn't shut off on me during a stage. Other problem is you need to rezero after a battery change. If you want a long life red dot you need to go to some type of Aimpoint or the Trijicon with fiber optic (no battery at all).

    Doug

+1 I just leave my aimpoints on 24/7 going on 2 years with one.. no battery change.. still bright as day one..

  5. what are you putting on the rail?

    Not sure yet really.

probably a red dot or reflex sight, maybe a flashlight.

the setup you are considering is overkill IMO...

I wanted a rail.. but when I considered the practical use of the weapon.. I realized I was making it heavier than need be..

    you could go..

ultimak rail with red dot and off set flashlight

    or

arsenal rail with kvar handguard and a red dot on a side mount..

both IMO satisfy what you are trying to accomplish while keeping the weapon as light and as streamlined as possible..

not a direct answer to your question.. but another option to consider..

  6. Blowing stuff up... time crunches to complete builds.. putting together exotic builds "just because".. even a little drama here and there with some of their personal lives.. I get it... in the name of TV.... but when you get to the point of when things are not being taken care of properly.. and there are explosions over petty nonsense.. and extensive childish bickering.. that is where I just shake my head.. sure it is just TV.. I get that.. I am not a child.. but that does not mean things are perfect in the real world.. I am not a worker there.. I do not know Will personally.. I am simply saying.. you can make the show.. you can have some TV candy.. without the looking like such a train wreck.. that's all..

no big deal.. not my show or shop.. totally willing to simply agree to disagree..

  7. Nothing like what seems to be the typical approach to celebrity (build them up and then tear them down). God forbid someone makes a 'TV SHOW' that may appeal to the masses, rather than a narrowcasted instructional video. As many may not agree with everything that happens at Red Jacket in TV land it's still kind of shocking these people can't separate the two. IT'S A TV SHOW!!! They are after ratings just like every other program in their time slot. Why not try and be happy for Will and his success instead of hating on every little nuance that doesn't appeal to your "high moral standards". Every one of you nonsensical critics would jump at the chance of a TV show and national exposure for your company. Get a grip. Take from the show what you enjoy and be happy that a fellow brother in arms is getting this great opportunity.

S.O.G. is great. Keep it going Will.

I have on more than one occasion defended Will.. not that I am anyone.. or my opinion even matters..

I have on many occasions stated what you did.. it is just a TV show..

but then there are other things that have happened that actually happened.. in real life.. which are hard to ignore..

and just to add.. there is a difference between "putting on a show" and being made to look incompetent.. I am all for putting on a show..

  8. TV show or not.. I would not let my "shop" be portrayed in such a ridiculous light.. the entire place appears to be a circus.. just remember the SHOP has to support itself after the novelty of the SHOW wears off.. and while several years ago I viewed RJ as a premier builder... one that was above the rest.. now the show portrays the whole operation as some mess.. unable to build an AR15.. losing parts.. come on.. why would anyone allow themselves to be shown in such an absurd way..

you might be selling the show.. but you are certainly not building confidence in the business..

  9. thanks for all the compliments.. I am really happy with the feel and handling of the gun.. really busy snowboarding this month and next.. but once the weather shifts I will put in some hard use range time into it to see if it stands up.. I have grown very used to the AK reliability factor and am eager to see how this compares.. I have had other ARs.. but this is the first one I really put together.. only thing I am missing is the ambi safety.. the guy who I purchased it from kept it... I really wanted a Magpul lower... I like Magpul stuff a lot... but that was obviously not going to happen.. I did not even know about the arfcom lower existence till someone included it to me in a trade.. I can not believe how similar it is to the Magpul one.. and no this is not an NFA item.. overal and barrel length are fine.. the brake is permanently attached.. thus it is basically a 16 in barrel... if it shoots as well as it feels and handles I will have no complaints.. as for the good parts list.. I only own a handful of guns.. quite a few come and go.. but I only own a handful because I can not afford to customize any more than that at one time.. it took a while of saving and buying to put it together.. but I would rather have one gun that I view as perfect in function and handling.. that is how I justify the parts I choose... that Haley light mount is killer.. REALLY happy with what they put out with that.. will certainly give range report once this thing is cooking..

    thanks again for the compliments..

  11. while I get that it is "just a TV show" I don't get the following....

at the start of the show vince appears to question the ability kris has in completing the AR..

vince is told the AR is not his project and to work on what he has to work on... basically told to mind his own business..

kris fails at assembling a piston driven AR15... which without being rude.. I really don't get..

vince then does not help kris and focuses on his projects.. as he was told to..

then vince gets punished for not doing the AR that he was told not to focus on...

  12. If it stays, cool. It looks like it may be a bitch to put back together. Thank goodness for retaining plates.

I guess that is my complaint.. an axis pin plate is like a $7 part? cheaper wholesale.. just use the plate and call it a day.. clips and bent wire to me is a cut corner.. one not worth having over such a small savings..

  13. Is this what you are talking about?? This is a classic arms conversion. That looks pretty snug on there. I can take it off tho. The Rivet is not coming out with regular use.

Here is a pic of the tapco group

    IMG_20120114_131749.jpg

no it was way worse than that.. it was just bent over one of the rivets.. and looked like it could slide off at any moment..

  14. ^

    wtf are you talking about

there is a "rumor" that the "business" made a change of hands at some point.. there was supposedly an issue with records.. and the business was "relaunched" with a different individual named as the "owner". none of which was really a problem.. but now there is discussion that the new "owner" wants to possibly explore a different direction.. since he is the "owner" and I guess named indiviidual for FFL reasons.. it has created an issue..

but again that is all second hand hear say information I have heard..

I have no first hand information..

I am NOT into "gossiping" but that is the discussion.. I have heard slightly more detail than that.. but I prefer to be intentionaly vague since the information is all second.. third.. fourth.. and one hundreth hand..
