Are you the same Orlando that I know from other forums ?
Your rifle is a very rugged and reliable weapon. Prices have seemed to have gone up since I purchased my last one which cost $259. My first was $174 , I believe they are close to $400 each these days .
We are glad to have you ,welcome aboard !

There are a few AK smiths in the Houston area. Andre Varrin of AR texas, Elk River tool and die, tac47industries,there is 1 more down in Brazoria also and I almost forgot Ron .The person closest to you will be Andre, he is near I-10 and gessner.
Most of the others are on the Southside near Hobby airport .
You could always ask Nalioth for assistance . He helped me when I was needing some help.

Did you thread your barrel or just remove part of the shroud ?
I am also in the Houston area.

I received my $5.50 mags and overall I am very happy with them !
Mostly just damaged floorplates and some small damage on the bottom of a few of the mags .
Mainly just surface rust on the bodies, nothing that a repark wouldn't fix .
a very good deal in my opinion !
I just wish I had of bought more .........

lonerider what gunshow in TX doesn't have AK mags ?
No really I know what you mean , we also have had some difficulty locating mags and 7.62 ammo. We did find some , but the mags were less than desireable and supposedly have rust on them from Copes for $5.50 and the ammo was from ammo to go but seemed to be at a premium price in my opinion.

I picked up a Bulgarian FSB from Kvar with the intent of installing it on my .223 saiga.
Has anyone attempted this and if so how well did it work out ?
My first thoughts are either the barrel is too large for the FSB.
Thinking maybee I should just rent the thread kit from dinzag and go 14X1 threadsand install a Smith enterprise flash hider.

I too was intimidated by the project at first. Owning several types of AK's but I thought that this was beyond my capabilities also, but it was not and the most difficult parts for me was cutting the square hole for the grip nut . My first was one of the first Saiga's imported and I bought it with the intent of converting even though I had no idea how to do it . I kept looking at the wasr's and the Saiga's and did not see alot of difference and I went with the Saiga for $159 . I went ahead and converted my other that I bought last year in .223 ,and it had the grip nut ho;e allready cut out ! That one was easy. I went ahead and fit some galil mags that I bought cheap and they lock in great . All I have to do now is order a couple bullet guides from dinzag and install them .
I have had the benefit of meeting Mr. nalioth and getting some tips and picking his brain which helped !.
I am planning on changing out the front site block next with a Bulgarian one that I picked up from KVAR.
Only difficulty that I have had was ,I have had no luck getting bulgy .223 waffle mags to fit .I guess I will just have to stick with the Orilite Galil mags .
Hope this helps !
Just do it , I was scared too but I wish that I would have done mine years ago !

Is that a M14 mag modified for the Veper ? If so,who did the mod ?
Thanks in advance.

I somehow lost the bolt head for my Saiga in 7.62X39 . I know ....I too wonder how this happened, but it is gone and I was able to buy another saiga carrier, piston and bolt head assembly complete, but I recently converted mine to standard AK with the exception of the bullet guide. I really want to have headspace checked before I fire it .
Anyone know someone in the Houston,TX area to use or would it be better to just purchase the gauges somewhere?
Thanks in advance .

Thanks , I would rather mod the rifle than the mags , I can still use the same mags in my Veper and other AK . It came out well so far !
I need the trigger components ,bullet guide , handgaurd retainer and the mag catch mod.
I am not sure whether to add the break and thread the barrel or not , what are you fellas doing on yours ?
Leaving as is or changing this out ?
It also appears that the pins for the FSB are on bottom and a traditional AH pins at the top, does this present any problems for those that have changed the FSB ?

I found the answer to the handgaurd retainer in dinzag's site .

I am new here ,but have looked at the step by step and the video on You Tube ,and I have a question that was not addressed. My Saiga is in 7.62 X39 caliber and I want to stay with standard AK mags ,so I know that I will need to be installing a bullet guide. Right now I have removed all the parts moved the trigger gaurd forward and installed the pistol grip . Just by hand fitting the magazine ,the mag catch will not lock the mag in . Do I need to file the top of the mag catch ?
Also ,I am planning on using standard AK furniture that is U.S. made and I will be needing a lower retainer and gas tube frim Dinzag . Which one do I need to purchase ? The barrel on my other AK has a groove in the barrel and the Saiga does not . Is this just a press fit ,or would I need to cut the groove in the top of the barrel ?
Thanks in Advance .

I just grabbed one out of a box of parts and it fit fine . Your mileage may vary .
I believe from the looks of it , mine was a Romy. I am not sure but I believe the AMD stuff is a little different (Gas tube) .
I hope this helps
