  1. So I turned my build into a DTAS Build Party event. We all had a lot of fun working on it. Here is the finished product: DTAS Myspace DTAS Facebook Videos from Past DTAS Events DTAS Web Site
  2. Thanks Tony. I used aluminum oxide. The finish on my second wipe down it seems the finish is NOT coming off. Can I apply another coat and rebake for added protection?
  3. OK - update; After taking Mpro 7 to the finish almost no paint pigment came off. Also, I accidentally scratched a small part of the receiver with a screwdriver when it slipped and it scraped the Moly off. Is that normal or did it not cure hard enough? Thanks guys!
  4. So I had a S12 build party yesterday and our first conversion of the S12 went great. We refinished the unit as required with Moly Resin: Blasted Wiped down with MEK Preheat to 150 Paint light coats (tried to keep parts warm) Baked at 300 for 1 hour My questions: When I oiled it last night I noticed some pigment get on the rag - a fair amount. Is this normal? There are two places I'd like to touch up - can I clean with MEK then simply respray and bake? Thanks!
  5. This is where I am confused; the mfg states "Parts should be coated in light oil immediately after cured and cooled". That's why I was asking what type of oil to use if it made a difference.
  6. Bump for answers to my two other questions.
  7. Thanks guys. After trying to clean the gun and seeing how much oil 'bleeds' from it, I can see why you need to blast it. Two more questions: Several light coats THEN cure in the oven OR bake in between light coats? What type of oil to put on the gun when I take it out of the oven? Thanks again for your help!
  8. 1) I bought a cheapo blaster from HF for $30 to blast with aluminum oxide the finish off our new S12 we're converting as a group project. I do need to do this right? I can't paint over it? 2) After I blast, I'm going to wipe down the gun with MEK to prep for heating then spraying. 3) After I spray and pull out of oven, what type of oil should I wipe it down with? 4) Any other tips you can share to help this come out great? We bought a Badger 350 airbrush to use. Thanks for your help!
  9. Hi All, This is truly meant as an innocent question, and in NO WAY am I trying to imply anything negative. I have sent Kevin at AGP 3 emails over the last 4+ weeks and twice left a messages with the person that answers the phone for Kevin. Both times I was promised a call back in 15 minutes and didn't get it. I'm sure it's that they are really busy, and I'm glad to see that a business is successful. Is this the norm?
  10. Hi All, So I just bought my first S12 this past week. Actually bought it as a group project for us to convert (I run the Dallas Target & Action Shooters Group). I read through the entire tech section, and didn't see my question covered so forgive me if it's a repost. Going to go with the Moly Resin to refinish the gun (black flat). I know they say to blast the finish off the gun, but it also says sanding may suffice. Has anyone tried sanding the finish before spraying, and how did it come out? Thanks! 11. Hi All, First, please forgive me if this has already been covered-I looked around but could not find it if it had. I am a totally newbie to these long guns, and am contemplating the purchase of either the version with or without the pistol grip. Other than the substantial price difference and a matter of personal choice, is there a functional or performance difference between the two? Thanks in advance for your help!
