What kind of accuracy will i get or expect out of my saiga in 223 w/16" barrel benchrested at 100yds using 55gr wolf ammo? (orginal sights)
-
I have an M14s norinco but i'm not sure how it shoots yet. I like the all weather any condition saiga's. Plus there lighter to carry. My bear shot has been within 25yds. One more option i think about is getting a browing BAR in 338wm.
-
I'm thinking the 22" barrel would take the 308 out farther in accuracy maybe out to 700yds + but no one has proven this yet. I can only shoot at 100yds in my area right now.

The bushnell banner scope came in black matte so it looks perfect on the black saiga. It looks great in matching colors. The scope with the kalinka russian mount went together perfectly too. No hassle dialing it in with the chamber lazer bore sighter too. The BDC adjusted dead on at 100yds.

There was a guy a few years back on www.gunboards.com who was ringing gongs with a scoped 16" barreled 308 saiga at 450yds. with no problem.

I lube my trigger sears with moly. I also lube the whole saiga with moly. The saiga's action will smoothout and the trigger feels like a trigger job was done on it.

Obama did say a new nation wide AWB bill is comming soon.....

My 22" barreled saiga has a really thick barrel all the way out to the end. Its a very slow taper. But its an older 308win saiga and it might be a 21,5" barrel. The longer barreled saiga in 308win would take the 308 round out to the longer distances accurately over the 16" barrel.
I believe the russian goverment just bailed out izmash so we may see boat loads of saiga's soon i hope.

I'm looking for an over the counter accurate 308win ammo in either 165gr or 168gr pointed soft point. I want it for bear and deer hunting.
I just hurt my back really bad i hurt three lower discs i missed bear/deer season this year and may have to give up using my 338win mag bolt action for bear hunting. I'm also "GOD" when my kids are hunting i keep an eye on them incase they get into trouble with a bear. Its sad too i can put two rounds threw the same hole at 100yds.
There was a ballastics posting on the 8mm mauser round. With a semi auto the gun powder burn rate matters too for the cycling of the semi auto rifle. During the tests he posted the lighter bullet moves out of the brass case much faster when fired over the heavier weighted bullet. The heavier bullet moves much slower and it takes more powder to burn as the bullet moves. Lighter bullet gives a less peak chamber pressure over the heavier bullet with the higher peak pressure.

SORRY guys i looked at so many scopes that day i'm all scoped out. Its the BSA sweet 223 #OS223618x40a scope. I never owned a BSA scope before and it just arrived and looks sweet. I installed the 55gr bullet weight wheel for the bullet drop compisation. I plan on shooting the 155gr FMJ and the 55gr russian barnaul soft point bullets for small game hunting. It also comes with the 50gr & the 62gr wheels.

Rumor has it the izmash factory has been bailed out by the goverment. I hope its true. I still believe the "brand new" russian izmash saiga is the hottest buy on the planet.

I purchased my 22" barreled 308 saiga to shoot longer range over the 16" barreled 308 saiga i have. I'm scoping it right now for deer & bear hunting. My two 16" barreled saiga's shoot 1 1/2" groups at 100yds benchrested using surplus south african 308 ball ammo. I hope my 22" barreled 308 saiga can shoot that good too. I just picked up a chinese norinco m14s in 308 and i hope it can shoot as good as my saiga's can. For under $400 the norinco was a steal or should i say great buy. I'd never pay the price of a springfield m1a. I'd rather go the extra mile and do a ground up build.

There is something about the heavier bullets with the higher peak chamber pressure that can affect the cycle timing in any semi auto.
-
Right now i'm in the process of scoping two of my saiga rifles in 223 & in 308win with the BDC options. (bullet drop compisation) this eliminates guessing and kentucky windage. Using it with a range finder will put every shot on the money when hunting for that trophy of a lifetime.
At the sametime i'm jones'n to collect more S&W N Frame revolvers in nickel too.

With my bad back lately i'm taking my saiga in 308win with the 22" barrel bear hunting or lets say i want to set it up for bear hunting. The bolt action magnum just maybe too much on my body. I have the scopemount and scope picked out. My problem what bullet weights am i limited too?? Am i limited to the 165gr to 168gr bullets? Or can i go bigger? I know that certain military semi auto's are limited to lighter bullet weights over the heavier bullet weights due to the higher peak chamber pressure on the heavier bullets. I want to besafe with my saiga too.
thanks, unkn

There goes the prices on the saiga's. I'm glad i hung on to all of mine.
I had the same gutt feeling when i shot my very first saiga as i did when i shot my very first chinese norinco sks. I knew they wouldn't last for long. Then slick willy stopped the chinese import. Now the russians are going to stop making the saiga's.

Its called the BSA SWEET #OS223618x40a scope. Natchez has it for $52 + or -.
After having two scopes with the BDC on my big bore rifles I will never buy another scope without it. (bullet drop compisation)
-
BSA 6-18x40 with BDC #OS223618x40a its made for the 223 round only with the BDC and it comes with the 50gr rbdc ring, the 55gr ring and the 62gr ring.

I just ordered a VOMZ-AK scopemount with 1" rings # AMSASM12 from kalinka for $79.97. I ordered a burris scope with the bullet drop compisation for the 55gr bullet. It also comes with the 50gr and 62gr rings too. Most of these BDC's adjust out to 500yds with no error or hold over. I have the BDC option on my 338win mag and my 30-06 also. A range finder and a scope with the BDC can put a round right on the money with no guessing about the distance. This saiga in 223 will be my new yote gun with the 55gr barnaul bullets.

he I ordered the kalinka mount its the VOMZ-AK side mount 1" rings #AMSASM12 for $79.97. The fit is awesome much tighter than the czech scope i had on it. I just ordered a Bushnell Banner scope for it. I have other bushnell scopes that are over 10 yo now and there still great. Plus there very clear and bright in the low light conditions when i hunt. I just ordered another one of these mounts for my saiga in 223 to replace the czech mount/scope.

There's a reason why redjacket firearms uses the 308 saiga's for platforms for doing builds. My first saiga was one of the first ones imported in 308win with a 16" barrel. After shooting it she spits out the 308 round accurately and cycles like no other 308 semi auto rifle i have to this day. Its my first ak/akm rifle.
Saiga, Saiga, Saiga, did i tell you i love my 6 saiga's??
-
Well i just broke down and ordered the kalinka scopemount for my saiga today. Now i need a scope for it.
-
Since i own two saiga's in 308 with the 16" barrels I plan on scoping my saiga in 308 with the 22" barrel.
-
Why punish the saiga by heating it up for no reason with sustained fire? I lube my saiga with moly and run one mag as fast as i can and still be accurate making each shot count. Just to see if i'm as good as the gun is.
If there was room for a clamp on heat sink with fins that would cool the barrel like the 1927 thompson machine guns had it would cool the barrel on the saiga's more.

Why do they call the browning semi auto rifle a "BAR". Its often refered to that. I was praying and hoping to see a saiga in 7,62x54r, in 7mm rem mag, in 300wm and in 338wm too but that will never happen.
