  1. Anybody have any word on AWB relevance?

Whether or not it is considered a vertical hand grip? The law in CA (PC 12276.1) describes a forward grip as a vertical grip meant to be grasped by the non firing hand. The weapon must also be equipped with folding or telescoping stock. It has to have both which, even if the forward grip met the definition or a vertical grip. I know it looks like mine has a tele stock, but look closer....

Good point though, thanks for looking out.

  2. I just ordered this and thought some of you guys might be interested in this. It is not on MP site yet, but it is on sale. I AM NOT A DEALER FOR MAGPUL.

Mods if this is stepping on anyones toes please delete.

It's about $35 and it is called the Magpul AFG-angled fore grip

This is Stickmans AK. He's the photographer for Magpul, so there are no TM violations.

  3. I've been told that you can put an 870 stock on an 1100, but no one I talk to has done it. Anyone here actually done it or has seen it done? I want a Hogue overmolded stock on my 1100 but they only make it for the 870. I know you can put an 1100 stock on an 870 by using a longer bolt, but I don't know about the other way around.

    Thanks

  4. Thanks guys thats exactly what I wanted to know. Basically all I wanted to know is if you have both and have changed the grips on the 1911 and have found the 1911 just as comfortable. My biggest problem is all the of the 1911's I have got to hold have the factory grips and feel really narrow. No one I know has one with Hogue or packmyer grips, therefore I can't make the call on whether or not a 1911 can be made as comfortable as my XD.

It seems though that everyone who owns both and posted here feels the 1911 with aftermarket grips is either just as, if not more comfortable than the XD.

    thanks again

  5. I own two XD's both in 40 and a Glock-22. I love all of them, they are all great guns. I am planning on buying a G21 because I want a 45. Dunno why, just want one. I am buying another Glock, because even though I love the XD's I spent many years trusting my life with a Glock. I will never own a 9mm, why? because I don't like them. I have no logical reason why. No horror stories of death and failure because of the 9 and no long drawn out studies of ballistics comparisons.

Buy what you want. But make sure you consider that when you go to the range you are not counting every round because you either can't afford more or find it.

  6. I don't think it's offensive until you reveal your purpose. Is it how you feel or is it just a jab to piss people off like that fuck Sal. Personally, I think we need to stop being PC and tell all those who wander around looking for something to be offended about to fuck off. But I also feel those who walk around with the sole purpose in life just to incite people because their too fucking insecure and pissed off with themselves should be kneecapped and tied to an anthill.

  7. Thanks,

Greg I trust you, but I have heard some pretty bad things about the Leapers lights. No offense to you but is there any type of warranty/guarantee on those lights?

Azrial the only way I know to shock mount is to get 30mm rings and use some rubber to take up the gap on a 1" light. Is that the method you were referring to or is there a better way?

PA I had no idea streamlight had a light out that withstand weapon mount and was under $100. Thanks

    Thanks again guys.

  8. I am looking for a flashlight to mount on my S12 that will withstand the recoil. I know the surefire's and stream lights last, but I am looking for something closer to the $100 mark. I've seen the UTG/Leapers fall apart and have heard the Hellfighters do the same. Anyone have any luck with a cheaper brand?

  9. Yeah all paranoia aside Sly if I had a big honkin' safe in the middle of the room or a vault, does it really matter if the guys on the gun forum know what I am building? They know I have guns, if they are coming to get them it is irrelevant as to what they are in...

Secondly, thanks for the info guys...The vault entry will be hidden from view and unless you are extremely observant, you would probably never know there was something behind the "cover." What I am looking for it something that will eliminate bodily forced entry and resist tooled entry. Lets face it most of our safes out there are not break in proof. Give someone enough time they will get into it. A safe merely keeps a crook who is in a hurry from getting your crap.

To me, safes although fairly impenetrable can be wrapped with a chain and drug out of the house, however a vault cannot. This and the shear size is why I am picking a vault over a safe. Believe it or not I actually had a case like that, but instead of guns the safe was full of dope.

Unfortunately, masonry is not a viable option so I am stuck with building a fire wall and reinforcing it.

  10. I am converting a closet (5x3) to a vault. I have the door and power figured out but I am a little indecisive on the walls. For fire rating I am doing 2 hour UL listed wall construction, but for security I have several ideas/options that I can't decide between.

    1. Place lathe between the layers of sheetrock.

    2. Place sheet metal between the layers (i.e 16 gauge). I know 10 ga or 1/4" would be great, but it would be cheaper to buy a 36 gun safe than to line it with that kind of iron.

    3. Place metal strapping horizontally 12" floor to ceiling.

    4. Or any other ideas you guys might have....

Most of the stuff I have been seeing guys do is putting chicken wire between the layers of sheetrock. Sure it would keep someone from kicking through, but chicken wire wouldn't even slow a down Sawzall with a dull wood blade.

    Thanks guys,

    Darin

  11. I think if this health care plan doesn't go through and the Conservatives make a stand in 2010 we have a good chance of turning things around, but it will be hard. However, if this health care goes through and/or there is no change in the house in 2010 the spending will continue. Will spell our demise? I doubt it, but our way of life with most likely change drastically. We will all face a more "involved Government" for sure.

My opinion after listening to Rush, Mark and Sean it appears there is a light at the end of the tunnel seeing BO's approval ratings are dropping and more people are aligning with the Conservatives on the generic pole. Plus listening to the audios of these town hall meetings it looks like the people (some anyway) are getting fed up.

  12. I'm familiar with the Battle of Blair Mountain, (the 1920's being the actual jumpstart of the Civil Rights Movement in the US, which many people seem to forget is about Rights, and not about Race) but if you are are using that as an example of why the term "redneck" is offensive or derogatory, I have to say, I don't get it. What makes it offensive, in that context or any other? The moniker made sense then, (though Im not sure that is the actual etymological origin of the word) and if someone wants to compare you to either a group of laborers who fought for equal rights in dangerous conditions, or someone who actually works for a living, exactly what is the shame in that?

Am i missing something? Then again, I dont think of words as much of a threat or offense, anyways, and hardly qualify as a PC, in most crowds, so maybe the point is just lost on me.

As far as the OP's question, i think the most important part of practicing shooting from the hip is that you are still looking at your target, too many people look at the gun to try and figure out where it is pointed, and almost always miss. Also, it can help to point your thumbs forward and visualize them both pointed at the target. most people can point directly at something without much effort, or a sight picture. if both hands are pointed at the target, so is the gun.

I'm in the same boat as you, I am "aware" of the Battle and have no knowledge of how that applies to the term Redneck. I am being earnest here and have always wondered where the term Redneck truly originated from and how it is derogatory.

Redneck originated in both Scotland and the US exactly as it sounds, as a term for white field workers, usually the lower class, as they had sunburned necks from working in the sun. Pretty simple, it seems. It however didn't really take hold in the common vernacular until after popular accounts of the situation surrounding blair mountain, when the workers would wear coloured bandannas to identify their political beliefs. Those with red bandannas were stating that they wanted to organize and form a union, and when it came down to violence, it also who identified was a legitimate target. Those Unionizers were commonly called Rednecks, because of the bandanna, and there are some that say that is the origin of the popular usage of the term in the US, but that really isn't likely, as it was in limited usage previously, and as its a term mostly used for referring to people who work in the sun (or that "type" of socio-economic class) and not used to refer to Socialists or Labor Organizers, and the coincident timing in usage is likely unrelated. Its basicly the preindustrial more agrarian version of "Blue Collar" which is a pretty proud term in most of America. Either way, i think its considered derogatory because people have swallowed the idea of "politically correct" in preparation for introducing a full blown Newspeak. Words arent offensive, its a silly idea, its ideas that are, and if you are careful, you can insult someone just as thoroughly with "safe" words as you can with any others.

Like i said, a label that was once used to describe people who fought for labor rights, and is still used to describe people who actually work for a living, doesnt sound like much of an insult to me.

Pantywaist Mouse-Jockey sounds a little more stinging, if you ask me. heh.

Sounds to me like Redneck is a hardworking middle class person who is proud of their roots and their place in this country. Doesn't appear derogatory to me, matter of fact kind of goes along with blue collar, which to me is a proud badge to wear. The term 'hick' on the other hand from my place of origin is the derogatory term for a dumb white trash idiot.

    Thanks for the info Rev.
