I was looking through google for articles and posts about "accurizing" Ak's. I found some stuff and was wondering what the forum thought and if it had any suggestions.
1. Ammo: I would like to learn to reload anyway, but from what i gather, if the round is loaded right, and the round exits the barrel before the bolt and piston hit the rear, a lot of the vibration and whip of the rifle will not affect the bullet. Is this thiking onthe right path?
2. sights. this is a given, no need for help here.
3. gas tube fit? i have heard the fit will help if done right... how will this help, and what should be done?
4. handgaurd fit?
5. headspacing . REasonable?
I figure sights and ammo will give the greatest reward for effort. What about the other stuff? worth bothering with? I shoot 6-7" groups at 100 yds with my saiga, unsupported(what are reasonable expectations for unsupported groups?), and would like to half that.

Look about halfway down on this page at the saiga .410. Ive never even seen a grip for that application....

I wasnt wanting a truck gun JUST for defense, it would be a catch all kinda thing. And i wasnt realy considering that one. For a good price i would definately pick it up for shits and giggles, but i like the double trigger nickel one. And as the previous poster commented, ill probably end up picking up a used one. That way if someone doesnt like me having it or i have to use it, the only thing anyone will see is one of the oldest fudd guns in the world. I could go with a pump, but i kinda just want a sxs. An s12 would be great, but it will also scare the heck out of people that arent used to things like that, and if i pick up a sxs used, i a)dont have that problem, and b)spent a lot less. besides, only hits count, and since you are responsible for every round that goes downrange... 1 shot will stop a problem as well as 25. saying sxs's dont work is like turning your nose up at a revolver... it might not be ideal, but...
Dont think im knockin the s12... If they're still around when i get out of school, i have a spot on a gun rack for it...
Like i said before, the posts intent was to just share a gun i thought was cool.

Unfortunately, i do not have either. I would love both, though. I just thought i'd share a pic of a very interesting firearm.

I could be wrong, but didnt the constitution allow for succession? Also, how many threads have been started on this forum pertaining to what happens when a government stops representing its citizens....?
-
nevermind. i just wrapped the barrel in an old tshirt, putthe grip tool on it at the bottom, wrapped a screwdriver up in a washcloth and then gave it some love taps at the top with a hammer and it came off. Now my question is about the holsters...
-
really i just need to know the best way to get teh grip off...
-
So i put hogue slip on grips on my round butt 686+. Now i want to put my wood grips back on and cant seem to get the rubber grips off. As far as i remember, they are held in by friction and and intermal pin and that if I push the sides of the grip apart, it should slide off, right? Its not. ive used the grip removal tool and some jewelers screwdrivers and catn get it off. Any thoughts or suggestions?
Also, im looking at holsters for it right now. I want a carry holster and also an open carry holster like this one: http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/colt...s.aspx?a=527563
Any suggestions for that? Also, the lack of leather covering the trigger on a lot of these holsters looks like it could be a safety problem... is it?
thanks,

how much modification to a saiga would be required to install one of these?

Ok, i have a question about performance parts on a n ak and how it will affect you using any ak you pick up. Lets say i want to be able to train with MY ak, and then pick up ANY ak systema nd be able to use it jsut as effectively. What modifications will help me out with mine without sacrificing my ability to use others. For example. Lets say i put a reflex sight on mine and get used to shooting with that. Then, i assume, if i picked up another weapon that just had iron sights, i would not be quite as effective at using them, whereas if i just used iron sights on mine, i'd be just as good with any other weapon, right?
I think a flashlight might help, and would not impair my ability to shoot unequipped rifles.
I want my rifle to be as practically effective as possible, not going for the tactical look, just whatever works. but i also want any training that i do with my rifle to be very transferable to a strange ak. Like i dont want to get used to using a foregrip when most models dont have one.
So, to restate my question... What mods would provide more capabilities to my rifle without making it more difficult to transfer to a different one b/c im used to mine?
I hope that is clear.
thank you

Why a reduced hammer spring?
-
we had a guuy in highschool that did that right through the middle of his foot. No one knew his name, just called him shotgun. kinda funny if you're that stupid.
-
its a 1500 work truck. 1/2 ton.
-
how good is the factory limited slip?
-
so ive got an 05 silversado wrk truck and want a better rear end in it than a one wheel wonder. WHat would be the best solution? pulling a limited slip off a totaled truck and instaling it on mine? any other options? aftermarket lockers? i want something that still drives the same on the street but will help me out a bit more when it gets dirty.

just saw a krinkov kit in cheaper than dirt. I was just curious about it all. i catn put money down on another gun right now.
-
not sure where to put this. i have a 7.62, but i was looking at 5.45's and saw how cheap the ammo was. i dont know mmuch about his calibre or the choices of guns all ive seen is a &850 parts kit from cheaper than dirt? what can you tell me about it? experience?
-
A: what rear sight is that?
B: where do you get a bayo lug like that?
-
thanks for the replys, still realy interested in how this vortex will work out.
-
so this vortex sight, under 50 yrds, as long as the dot is on say, a 6 inch target, its gonna hit?
Legal?
in Saiga .410

Maybe i got something mixed up, but i was under the impression that taking a stocked weapon and putting just a pistol grip on it was illegal without getting special permission or something. Like, you cant take and 870 and put just the pistol grip on it, but you could buy it that way. It was a question out of curiosity, not to accuse the guy who owns it or say what a horribel person he is. I also had never seen that before on a saiga and thought it was interesting.
To nalioth: From what i understand, or think the law to be, is that the shotgun you show would have come with the pistol grip and be fine. also, i did not say the ".410 halfway down the page"m, but rather the "saiga .410 halfway down the page"
thanks
