  1. Point of View ... Probably Wrong Also ...

Spacehog nails it and thank you.  Fed involvement is not a good deal.  Nor desired.  But ... the big qualifier here is that we are dealing with a distinct written supreme law of the land ... the Second Amendment.  Not wiggle room.  Ideally no federal filtration.  No dilution.  No bull shit.

No State bull shit.  But we do not live in an ideal state of being.  We have what we have.  More bull shit.  What would Federal authorization of national carry do?  WTF?  Just what do the words  "Shall Not Be Infringed"  mean anyhow?  This whole thing seems like a barrel of snakes.

How can the Feds regulate something that can not be infringed?  Well, wake up HB of CJ.  We do not live in a free state.  My fear like shared by others here is that once you get the nose of the camel into the tent the rest follows.  Then camel shit.  More shit.  Lots of shit.  Oh shit.

    Respectfully.  Shit.  :(

  2. Point of View ... Subjective ... Ignorant ...

National Reciprocity may be the way to go.  I have always wondered about State Reciprocity being in violation of the US Constitution.  Mainly Article 1 Section 10 which basically says no State shall inter into agreement with another State.

But ... what about individual State Second Amendment restrictions?  Oregon has no magazine limits.  No restrictions on lots of stuff including Machine Guns with proper Federal licenses.  Can I legally carry high cap mags into California?

No.  Can I visit remaining stupid family members living in California packing my concealed iron with high cap mags?  No.  Can I bring my machine gun along locked up in the truck locked up in a security box?  No.  Lots of stuff still illegal in CA.

But .... will the National Reciprocity Act demand a Federal 50 State Carry License?  Muddy legal area.  Any Constitutional Lawyers on this Excellent Forum?  Anyhow, a national carry act would be good.  I do not know about opening the NFA roles.

    Respectfully.

  3. Personal opinion ... Subjective ...

Remember the state of our US military before World War Two?  Especially the condition and readiness of the Navy?  Particularly the Pacific fleet at Pearl Harbor?  It took our Navy over 18 months to get its shit together.  Then they got to work and crushed the worlds third largest navy and worlds strongest aircraft carrier navy in just over 3 1/2 years from the get go.

From the mud and blood of Pearl Harbor to the Japanese surrendering on the decks of the USS Missouri.  What has happened to our Navy is pretty much what happens to all institutions when there is too much politics and not enough sweat?  Too much peace and not enough incentive to maintain a high level of alertness?  Just what is our USN for anyhow?  For show?

Kinda like Mayberry.  Or a fire department which has no fires. Cops with no arrests.  I hope all of this is taken as a proper and CHEAP wakeup call by our very high politicians and military leaders.  To keep our swords sharp you gotta use some elbow grease.  And you better continue your sword fighting lessons less some little fast guy cuts you up into big pieces.  Yikes!

  4. My read only.  A combination of unfortunate events all coming together time on target.  Many events and happenings took years to develop.  Some occurred practically immediately and could not be predicted.  In other words, shit happened ... twice.

    1) Complacency.   2) Funding.  3)  Omama.  4) Admiralty.  5) General Orders.  6)  Chain of Command.  7)  Sea Keeping.  8)  Boat Handling.  9)  Bad luck.  So on and so on.  More I think about it, the less I believe in Enemy Action.  Too complicated.

CORRECTIVE ACTION?   Dunno.  When stuff like this happens the usual cure requires time and tide.  Top to bottom.  And bottom to top.  This is maybe like what happens when a Champion Athletic lets his daily conditioning and diet go.  Laziness.

  5. Good cans are volume specific.  Excellent cans may be caliber specific.  The best cans are volume specific, caliber specific and particular established load specific.  Generally speaking one gets what one pays for.  Not always but generally.

For some reason unknown to man the above can site will not load.  Sorry.

  6. Does the Red Ryder require physical cocking effort?  I ripped out my right thumb nail trying to de cock my BB gun and the lever action slammed back into my thumb.  Ouch.  Blood.  Screaming.  I was about 6 or so.  Mom and Dad handled it very well.  I did not.  Do they make kids BB guns that are CO2 powered?  No physical strength needed to cock or de cock?  I dunno.

Consider a single shot down sized youth type .22rf rifle?  After you son grows out of it you can also cut down the barrel and make a good single shot short barrel rifle.  Add a good can and you have a skunk buster.  The nite vision can be added later.  Just another way of keeping the first firearm in the family.  My brother still has MY first rifle.  A Savage 24V .22 .410.  :)

  7. Thank you.  My old eyes just skipped over that part of his first post.  I was attracted to and read the recent post by Ronin38.  Has he considered the heat potential?  Most optics mounted over the hottest part of the gun do not do well under multiple fast mag dumps.  Just thinking out loud here.  It is an AK.  :)

Zombies come to mind.  In SW OR USA it is tweakers.

  8. Good old thread bumped and good.  Do you still have that factory left side receiver scope mount rail?   If sosss, some outfits still make a scope mount that attaches to such.  Be sure to get one tall enough so the top cover can just come off and on without bothering the scope or mount.

If mounted as such you may have to shim the side receiver mount.  We had to.  Both up and down and side to side.  Just drill out the rivets and shim, then use short bolts and Locktite. Fun. Easy. Usually a Leopold 1x4x20 scope is used.  We have NOT shot THAT Saiga for a long time.

  9. Denial.  Beam me up Scotty, there is no life here.  New Saigas would be so cool.  Any statisticians here?  With over 22,000 folks surviving this thing it would make a fascinating study.  There are enough numbers to make it valid?   Ask the hard questions and crunch the numbers.  Probability of death from whatever means.

Average age of survivors.  Income.  Physical condition.  Education.  Vehicles driven.  Age of cars.  Type. Professional observers.  (if any) The bean counters could tell us with great accuracy what the probability or odds are for all sorts of things happening or not happening to such a large study group.  Would be interesting.

  10. Wild and Vague?  Perhaps.

Some birds stick their heads in the sand when dangers lurks.  Out of sight, out of mind?  I for one if faced with certain death would only ask that I be given 10 seconds or so to see it coming, recognize it for what it is and have time to just nod and say ... "Yep, here it comes.  Fuck me blind!".

Then WAMM, the lights go out forever.  Accurate information needed.  Dead or not.  I'm the kind of guy who just has to know stuff.  I need to see it coming.  Perhaps a control issue. Perhaps a character flaw.  Perhaps not.  Also I for one would really like Saigas to come back into the country.

This excellent Forum has drifted a bit.  Including me.  Respectfully.

  11. And wait ... there is still more ...

This according to FOX news, today, 30 October, 2017.  There is now more.  Or maybe so.  Seems two of the survivors of the Las Vegas shooting were BOTH killed in a car accident when their vehicle crashed into a gate outside of their home.  According the Fox it took firefighters over one hour to put out the resulting flames.  Humm.

    1) How the fuck do you crash hard into the gate in front of your home?

    2) How and why did their car burst into flames?

    3) Why did it take Firefighters, according to Fox news, over one hour to put out the flames?  WTF?

Just how much Termite did the killers use?  This is after they gimmicked the brakes?  And probably disabled the air bags?  But all of my questions are only to myself and have nothing to do with anything other than the meanderings of the mares nest of my feeble minds eye.  I am wondering why it could be possible these two survivors saw or knew something ... then went public with it?  Just reaching here.

Or ... considering the sheer number of survivors of Las Vegas who were not hurt, this sort of thing is only statistical and just happens?

  12. They will most certainly won't.  But ... understand sometimes Governments MUST lie or omit facts or truth from the people.  Most of the sheeple can not stand or bear the truth.  Sad but true.  But there must be a general accounting of behavior from elected and appointed officials.

A long ago far away story.  Briefly:  back in about 1975 we received a classified, (low level) briefing from some Air Force and Army guys on what would happen to our large horrible Central Valley CA city if there was even a limited thermal nuclear war.  Kiss our ass good by.  10,000+ rems.

We were ORDERED by the City Manager NOT TO TELL anybody what we firefighters learned.  They probably should not have told us the risks of nuclear bombing.  We clammed up to our friends and public but lots of us made plans to boggie if possible.  I got out in 1987.  Moved to Oregon.

But before that happened it was business as usual teaching civic groups the benefits of just a central closet and aluminum foil on the windows.  We were ordered to lie through omission.  Perhaps others here will also share their stories where governments lied to them and the citizens.

  13. At what point should we as responsible citizens respect and accept official accounts of horrible dynamic events?  Should we just say "OK" or do we have valid reasons to maintain some doubt?  Do we have a RESPONSIBILITY to be skeptical?

History shows us many examples of Government lying or omitting facts.  What about those events where it was later proven conclusively that our own USA Government lied to us?  What about that?  Does that imply future lies from Uncle Sam?

There will always be detractors.  There will always be believers.  I for one know within a reasonable doubt that our Government has lied to me.  How do I possibly accommodate THAT?   At what point should we just let it all go?  Dunno for sure.

  14. Chilie:  Backing up here a bit, thank you for the picture link in return answer number 61.  Strange photos.  Look phony.  The gun resting on top of the "body"?  WTF?  Dying by multiple machine gun hits usually results in the gun being flung away. The "body" resting in repose on its back arms and legs spread evenly?  No blood?  None?  No visible bullet holes in the lower body?

No gun fight battle damage visible in the hotel suite?  No bullet holes.  No splashed blood.  In my feeble estimation when I first saw those photos it screamed fake fake fake!  I could do much better.  Seen my share of civilian gun fights first hand ... after the fact.  Not staged.  Always very brutal and gruesome.  Sossss ... if the photos in answer #61 are phoney, what else is phony?

    Respectfully.  Retired FF PM.

  15. Personal Rant ...

History shows our revolution of 1776 was most definitely NOT a walk in the park.  It was long, brutal, bloody and nasty.  Very much like the War Of Northern Aggression.  The Civil War to others.  It was area against area.  Town against town.  Neighbor against neighbor.  Family against family.  Yep.

Tory vs Patriot.  Royalist vs Rebels.  It was not in geographically separate areas.  Either you were for us or you were against us and you must decide NOW.    More people starved to death or died from diseases than were actually killed in the fighting.  At the start only THREE PERCENT were rebels.

Are we prepared to do that again?  I do not think we are even close yet.  Yet we belly ache and complain about our New King George.  Then we change Presidents and we still complain and write letters.  Big fucking deal.  Things have not yet even begun to get bad enough to even think about violence.

Sosss ... do we have an answer?  Yep.  Get involved in righteous corrective politics at the local level.  Do it by non violent means.  Select and elect local good patriots for public office.  All public office.  Especially including School Boards.  We can still turn all of this around and drain the BIG SWAMP.

Also consider giving 10% of your NET income to the non violent political cause.  Enough that it hurts.  Put your money were your mind is.  The other side does it quite well.  Money.  We need to learn how to do it also.  We are a vast sleeping giant.  All we need to do is wake up. That and some valuable time.

And ... never start a new paragraph with a conjunction.  No ... wait.  What I mean is that I am one of the bitchers.  I write letters.  Make phone calls.  Do the E-mails.  But ... I have NOT YET gotten involved in the local political process.  Lazy I guess.  I need to get my ass in gear.  I know this.  Working on it.

    Rant complete.  Thank you.  Respectfully.

  16. Personal rant ... subjective ... slanted ...

Lots of historical events were either covered up or slanted/changed.  Lots of examples in new history books.  The big one that still sticks in my feeble mind is the JFK assassination and the follow up Warren Report.  Complete bull shiet.  I wonder if we will EVER be given the truth about the Las Vegas shooting.  Probably not.  That is what governments do best ... lying and hiding the facts.

Kinda a history buff.   Other examples.  War of Northern Aggression. (civil war) Pearl Harbor and Roosevelt.  MacAuthur, (sp?) and the Philippines. Numerous WW2 examples.  Ruby Ridge.  Waco.  Oklahoma City.  World Trade Towers.  USS Iowa.  USN vs airliners.  Sandy Hook? (dunno)  Recent mass shootings. (take your pick) Now Las Vegas.  Has our government ever come clean?

Respectfully.  The part that burns is that sometimes our Government MUST lie cheat and steal.  Sometimes necessary.  Not here.  Not now.

  17. Responsible honorable US Citizenship earned the hard way and I salute you.  However ... that being said, perhaps it would be an excellent idea to have ANY prior agreement looked over by a civilian attorney.

Hopefully a civilian attorney versed in military law.

Like Fun Gun already said better, military law and civilian law usually do not mix.  What goes for one does not go for the other.  Promises made, papers signed and military legal orders cut with copies to you.

Then 10 minutes later the orders are changed.  Completely.  Oh shit.  This happened very close to home.  Long ago.  Have things changed?  Dunno.  For the good of the service.  Plans up in smoke.

    Respectfully.

  18. Dangerous slippery Constitutional slope.  All down hill.  While slide fires are kinda non useful nor mostly desirable they are most certainly absolutely protected under the Second Amendment.

Example: ...  We, (the guv) will let you stand upon your whatever soap box and talk all you want about space aliens, but you can not say one word about vacuum energy.

Example: ...  You can go to what ever church you want and even worship the Devil, but you can not preach one word about the Koran.

Example: ...  You can be safe inside your own home from non warrant door smash break ins and illegal searches ... BUT ... if you have even one non censored library book you are in deep shit.

Respectfully.  Very dangerous outlawing ANYTHING dealing with Constitutional Rights.  Just me.
