  1. Tapco for the Saiga conversions cause you dont have to worry about trigger slap if you decide not to rivet your trigger guard on. Aside from that, Arsenal works just fine and any FCG can be polished and tweaked to perform well...

  2. Im not gonna lie, im an Aimpoint snob, but if you are on a budget, get the Bushnell TRS-25! For the money, you WILL NOT find a better dot...

This sight seems to be the winner in the price range. My only fear is it getting to my house with some kind of problem, then having to fuck around with bushnells customer service, which ive heard is sub par. Ive had a couple crappy experiences with laserlyte in the past and dont wish to repeat them.

Maybe this is an irrational fear, but a fear none the less.

For twice the money, is the sparc more than twice the sight?? Im thinkin about that one too.

I have no personal experience with the SPARC, but I have read some really shitty reviews about it, such as the dots have been known to be pretty blurry even at low settings, and the on/off & NV buttons are overly sensitive and they can pop on in your range bag thus drastically cutting battery life. just reading stuff like that kept me from buying one. kinda of disheartening, because prior to the TRS-25 i really wanted a SPARC because it seemed to be a good choice for an Aimpoint substitute.... I dont regret the TRS-25 at all... infact, its kinda changed my whole outlook on bushnell as a company. Ive always been a stickler for quality and most of my adult life until recently, my Rifle scopes have always been Leupold and my dots have always been Aimpoint...

  3. Yeah I can see that, however the PK-01 is like... $250 whereas the T1 is double that and then some lol. I suppose ridiculously long battery life can justify the extra cash spent for most guys, especially since you can't go wrong with an aimpoint, but I can't quite get up that far just for a sight right now. Not now anyways, I'd love to be able to pick up a nice aimpoint or even an eotech... are there any decent alternatives that aren't quite as expensive?

Dude you're killing me!!! the Aimpoint T1 is the ULTIMATE red dot for any AK/AR or any other rifle, shotgun, pistol you'd ever want to use. Batteries arent heavy! specially the flat types that go in the T1...carry an extra one! Are you saying that an Aimpoint sight is worth more than your life? You should never put a price on your life bro! I have T1 aimpoints on 2 of my AK's and a Comp M3 on my AR. If the utter and total reliability of the AP's can be trusted with my life/training in its hands, then why worry about cost...save your money, buy it once, have it for life!!! I also agree witht he guys that say IRONS...you ALWAYS need a good set of reliable irons to fall back on!

LOL calm down... If you stake your life on a red dot, I think you have your priorities mixed up wink.png I won't be completely incapable of shooting my rifle if I don't have optics... I've had a considerable amount of practice with my irons as any shooter should have. Optics aren't something I can spend lots of money on right now, I just figured I'd ask about the PK-01 since it was one of the cheaper, yet still solid red dots I could find. I'm only 19, I don't exactly have tons of money to throw around on $500-$700 optics. I just asked about the Russian ones because most guys say they are relatively reliable since they're made for AKs, and for the price, I think I'd be okay with having to switch out AAAs here and there. Really in the end a "SHTF optic" isn't necessary like hutch said since most encounters would likely take place within a range where you can reasonably use even the crappiest of irons, however, nothing says it wouldn't be nice to have a decent red dot to use...

thats the main thing i cant stand about Russian optics... its not the quality, its the battery life & battery type. its pretty sad when Bushnell is kickin the crap out of most russian optics with its little TRS-25 red dot (3000 hour battery life) for about $89.95 lol I did however just put a TRS 25 on my .223 Saiga and though its not an Aimpoint, it IS pretty durable and somewhat water resistant (not water proof)...just dont take a bath with it lol.. I still like it and it has served me well so far. So if you're on a budget, get a Bushnell TRS-25 and an Ultimak rail and call it a day... under $200!

feel free to PM me if you need too...

  5. HI guys,

First time poster here on this forum; and i need help with a bullet button issue concerning my Saiga rifle with a RAA skeleton stock.

What bullet button do you recommend I use because all the ones I've looked at pertain to the trigger guard located behind the release mag handle? My Saiga is not converted, so how will that help me? I want to stay in compliance of course, being in Kali. Plus.....I also have a Bulgarian skeleton stock with a pistol grip that I would like to install on another Saiga of mine. I'm hoping that I didn't go in over my head with all this.

Any help would be appreciated. I like the skeleton stock, instead of the pistol grip configuration. (Only because I don't want to get into 922lr compliance).

    Thanks in advance

    Kyle

to my knowledge there is no such thing as a "saiga bullet button". all the bullet buttons out there are for the standard AK configuration. the BB for the Saiga 12 however MIGHT work with a lil bit of tweaking... you can get them from solar tactical out of northern CA

if you have any questions, feel free to PM me as I am from the Kommie state as well, and i know a lot about the laws out here in the "western bloc" lol

  6. Yep, you cannot really function test an AK while nursing it by hand. All sorts of malfunctions can happen. Cycling by hand will disrupt the timing of several mechanical operations of the action.

And yes, the extractor spring is REALLY tight out of the box, so it's one of those things that requires the full force of the return spring to operate correctly.

    Man mancat,

I wish you would have been the first one to post a reply lastnight when i posted this, i probably could have cleared this up a lot sooner than i did lol

  7. **UPDATE** I figured out my problem. After all the years ive been playing with these guns, how the hell I made such a noobish mistake is beyond me, but I guess it happens to the best of us lol

I was cycling the gun manually with steady even pressure from my hand and not letting the natural momentum from the recoil spring do its work and it wasnt enough force to let everything settle in place (specially on a brandnew unfired gun). I havent had a chance to go out and shoot it yet, but im sure shes gonna be a jewel biggrin.png

I feel like such a n00b sometimes lol

  8. after looking at it again closely, it stops at the point right before the bolt has to rotate to lock the lugs in place...god, i hope the headspace didnt come screwed up from the factory sad.png

your right though, I should have fired it pre conversion...i usually do, this is the first time i didnt... karma...

with the dust cover off, i can see the bolt rotate into locking position with no rounds in the mag...the issue only happens with a round in chamber sad.png

*NOTE* I even removed my feed ramp and tried this with my factory 10rd mag and it does the same thing... i think the spring on the extractor is just too strong/stiff for it to function properly...

  9. Is the bolt carrier moving forward under the power of the recoil spring alone? How far from being fully in battery is the bolt? Does the first round in the magazine move forward at all when the bolt carrier gets stuck?

Anyway, let this serve as an example to everyone as to why a gun should be test fired before home modifications are made.

Yeah the bullet is damn near all the way in the chamber and the bolt it as far forward as it can be without the extractor opening up to wrap around the cartridge rim. its almost completely closed... 1/4" at most maybe

  10. Hey all,

Been a while now since ive posted. about 4-6 months ago I bought a Saiga .223 from J&G when they were going for $299.99 (TGI Knox TN import stamp) . Since i have other saiga's to play with, i thought id take my sweet time and do a CORRECT Galil conversion. Long story short, the gun has NEVER been fired and i just installed the bullet guide from CSS today to be able to run Galil mags. Heres the problem im having: No magzine in the gun, everything cycles flawlessly! Empty mag in the gun...again, Flawless! When there is Ammo in the mag, the BCG will not close all the way forward. pulled the BCG/bolt to play with the extractor claw/spring only to find that it is abnormally tight, thus not allowing the claw extractor to reach around and grab the rim of the cartridge!

This is the first time i have ever encountered this problem with a Saiga or any AK type rifle for that matter, and im wondering if good ol' Ivan is on the job producing vodka specials again...hope not! Has anyone else had this problem since the TGI Knox Saiga's arrived stateside?

    need some backup guys/gals!!!

    thanX,

    -RR
