  1. oh yeah im picking up all the brass i can now, lol ..sort thru it and keep what i want question, what are the hardness for primers ? is 41 harder then 34, or is that the size of the primer ?.. cheers
  2. ok, i had not read or heard that before.. something i'll definately look into. what is the exact diameter of the saiga barrel, .308, .310 or something else ?
  3. yeah, ive been looking at different reload equipment, mostly in the form of kits, it seems that i can get started with less money that way. but, it there really a big difference between makes ? is rcbs betten lee, or whoevers stuff ? seems lee is lot less expensive then the others . ive been looking at the rcbs kit in a box or the lee aniversary kit. slainte
  4. yeah, maybe so. i can get a 20 round box of wolf 123 gr. around here for about $4 a box.. but the performance of these on deer isnt so great.. they usually blow righ thru the animal and that causes the deer to run, and if they get to the river or over the draw then its a bitch to get them ...so im looking at making up some better stuff, heavier and something that will expand and knock the deer down.. besides i will reload for all my guns not just the x39..after i learn how..and yeah the v-max bullet in 147 or 150 gr. would do nicely, not to mentiion i beleive that handloading makes for a poten
  5. great post, thanks .. im starting to think that this is something that i'll actually be able to do .. yeah, i just checked your comm bloc site too, very nice, although i dont have much to offer, i'll check in once in a while, maybe wiht a few dumbpot questions .. cheers
  6. nope i dont have any reloading experience yet. i understand what your saying and argee. thats the reason i want to reload, better rounds for hunting, 150 grain or whatever my rifle likes best. i was looking in the rcbs or lee kits they offer, they seem to me a good place to start. i'll definately check the beartooth site, ...many thanks
  7. hi all, let me ask a question, is anyone intrested in giving me a few pointers/words of advice when it comes to reloading for the 762x39 ? i have read alot of threads on here and am looking for a site for some instruction.. but i was wanting to refer to the guys here with some experience in the matter... im interested in hunting rounds/weights only.. thanks
  8. yeah thats the stuff, the stash behind mantle kind of thing.. i built a new bedroom and into the floor in the closet i built a stash.. how i did it was i built a box between the floor joists and trap door .. so to access it i just pull back the carpet and open the lid... but it was a bit rough, and im looking for plans for other ideas.. but that the basic idea.. because as i remodel my 60's model house i plan to build stashes in nearly every room of different sizes and locations.. crazy huh ?, cheers
  9. well i'd like to get around the spendy part by building it ma self .. im not so intrested in steel doors as much as im into looking into building in a small niche or stash .. i have many guns and lots of ammo and i dont want anyone "unauthorized" to get ahold of them , cheers
  10. hi, its been a while, anhow does anyone have any experience builting into thier house a secret room or vault for a gun stash ? is there any websites out there for this sort of thing ? im building an addition on my house and wondered about adding a small secret room for a gun room/stash. and was wondering how best to go about it thanks, cheers
  11. we hunt just north of onaway, just south of black lake. my brother shot a nice 5 point yesterday. by noon today i'll be in the woods there too. im still looking to shoot that monster buck ! i buy ak47, 5 round mags at the local gun show when it comes to town, and weld a lip on the front and grind it with my dremel tool. i use my wire feed welder and run a bead along the front edge, and grind a lip to it.. makes a great feed ramp and takes 5 minutes. cheers mates
  12. How far did the doe run with the 7.62x39? I've been thinking about taking mine. I wasn't sure about how well it would do though. jtoddellis.. the doe i shot literally dropped where she was standing. i was really surprised by how and what the bullet did to the doe, a very large exit hole and i clipped the leg and the bone shattered. the leg folded on the doe and she nose planted right in her tracks, and never got up. i was using 125 grain, soft point , remington express rifle for 7.62 x 39 .. the only other gun that made a kill shot like that was a styer 300. win mag.. cheers
  13. Wolverine, i've hunted that nat. forest in the past.. lots of deer by big rapids, but lots of hunters too, best of luck to ya though.. i hunted at my property near lincoln twp. in clare county. 20 acres that the pipeline crosses, lots of deer and no hunting pressure to speak of. this weekend , fri and sat. im going to black lake area with my brother and hunt the south side of the swamp.. if the weather dont get wonkie on me. will have to shoot a buck this time though.. hopefully a monster swamp buck, been a few reports of folks spotting bigfoot though, so maybe i'll harvest him instead, lol
  14. well good luck Shotgun .. the 45/70 is on my wish list.. the marlin model 336 lever action in that chamber.. we can hunt from treestands too, here in michigan, but i have not done so yet. my brother does reguarly though..
  15. opening day, 9am, cold, rainy and windy.. up from the swamp came 3 does, they walked within 10 feet of my ground blind, when they passed by me. at about 20 yards out, i fired and took one the biggest one. i was using remington express 125 grain soft points . one shot one kill, hit just above and just infront of the heart, the bullet left an exit hole bigger then a softball and shattered the upper leg.. the doe dropped in her tracks and died with in seconds. she was just under 100 lbs dressed. had back straps for dinner that nite, finishing butchering it tonite.. the more i fire my saiga and
