  1. Thanks I'm sure not wealthy enough to buy the real dragunov,I'm to busy buying clunkers and paying for stimulas payments to the poor haven't got mine yet.

The thought tye saiga might be a bit more accurate with a longer barrel

Judging by the confederate flag in your avatar and the spelling/grammatical errors in your post, I might suggest holding off on purchasing firearms and instead saving your money for education related expenses.... :haha:

So you have been appointed the hall monitor. It's quite apparent you like to run off new members well you win so long, You could have saved your comments.

I'll make sure I don't recommend your forum

  2. Has anyone put a longer barrel on their x39 if so how hard was it and what barrel fits it. I just need to get a longer barrell or trade someone with one or buy a dragunov

    thanks

    paul

If you have the opportunity to buy a Russian Dragunov SVD or Tigr you should do that. If your referring to a Romanian PSL as a "Dragunov" then Id just about go with anything else (the difference between Russian 2" groups and Romainian 4-7" groups is a huge factor).

Really you don't want to buy a long barrel 7.62x39 as the accuracy is not really improved.

Also, you will want to go to http://www.dragunov.net/ to learn about the platform before umping in a spending your hard earned money. :smoke:

  3. Good to hear!

you mod the front handguard yourself too? I kindof like that.

Yea did that to got the idea here on the forum, just tape it off with tape mark where to cut and drill and go at it.

the cut area's just sand with 600 grit real smooth and it looks factory.

  4. I thought I would share with ya'll the pic of my conversion, all instuctions came from this forum the parts came from Carolina Shooter supply Greg is good guy to deal with.

Everything went off with not one single problem I'm very pleased. To all thinking about doing the conversion jump in it's just to simple.

Thanks to all for the research and instructions. great forum.

  5. I was at the local gun show yesterday here in Nashville, and they had a dealer there that had a Saiga 308 and a Saiga 12. Sweet guns. I was having serious gun lust, but those will have to wait, alas.

Anyhow, one of the sales guys shows me a picture of his converted Saiga 223. He says a guy at their store will do the conversion of my new 7.62x39, parts and all (including a pistol grip and simple stock) for $200.

Should I be skeptical? Sounds almost too good to be true. For those of you who converted your guns, how much did the parts cost altogether?

    Thanks.

    Jim

sOUNDS OK i JUST DID MY CONVERSION MYSELF AND SPENT$189.36

  6. I am very close to buying my first AK Rifle and its down to a few choices

    Bull pup

    WASR 10

    Saiga

Why should I buy a Saiga?

    [/quot

Saiga it's almost a ak you can make it what you want I have 3 of them and love-em shoots everytime dirty or not very reliable

    just my 2cts

  7. Not much.

The AK-47 was a milled receiver gun. It was made obsolete by the Russians in 1959, when the AKM came along.

The AKM was the upgraded version, and lasted in service to the Russians until 1974.

The AK-74 is still in use with the Russian military (actually the AK-74M).

The Saiga is a civilian version of the AK-103 (7.62x39) and the AK-101 (.223 Remington).

My bad wrong use of the brand name what parts from other guns will fit IE: mags' stocks ,barrels etc.

    thanks

  8. I'm 6'7'' and ordered the Warsaw length stock.... this could be WAY too short....

well if the saiga regular stock fits you in length then everything else is to short, I have sent both mine back I'm going to make a fiberglass stock long enough.

  9. ...The flipflop buttpad spacer idea is probably the best piece of redneck engineering I have ever heard and I must instantly carve up a set of my wife's flipflops with the thicker harder sole as soon as the sun goes down :D

remember, they are available in hot pink and even rainbow to get rid of some of the redneck aura...

Be sure and post pics! :D

I used a pair to make a spacer for my M1A stock and one for an old 10/22 that was too short for me! I just hacked them out to basic shape with a fine cut jig saw then screwed them onto the rear of the stock. Then I put a few layers of blue tape on the stock itself for protection and used a belt sander to grind/sand them to final shape. Frankly, they looked just fine and no one was the wiser of their lowly birth. I think that I paid $4 for them!

To the OP! Seriously though, 3" is a lot of spacer. You are quite correct, these guns are designed for fast mounting and consequently, a shorter length of pull.

LOL!!!! I guess pink would be considered a safety color??? these rifles were made for little short slant eyed guy's.

I have desided I think I will try to lay up a fiberglass one to fit.

    Thanks for the laugh

  10. Well I can vouch for all you kind folks here with all the info ya'll provided I did my conversion in 1 hr 42 minutes.

    A big thanks for that.

One problem these's butt stocks must be made for short arm suckers, I bought the nato length is 3" shorter that the saiga stock any suggestions ?????. This sure will not work!!

    Paul

They actually use a slightly different hold and stance with an SMG or Assault Rifle than most people do with a hunting rifle.Your elbows tucked in and your firing hand lifting up rather than extended out from your body so unless you are like 6ft5in or taller it's about what you are used to rather than the stock. The Nato length K-Var stock is as long from the grip to the buttpad as a standard M16 stock if I am not mistaken and plenty of tall dudes with really long arms shoot those pretty darned well.

Now that's funny I'm 6'5" tall long arms and throwed my M16 peice of crap away in 1965 somewhere in south VN. I have a M14 that fits me perfect and I like the Saiga just have to solve the stock problem.

    Thanks

    paul

  11. not sure but do they make those recoil pads that'll fit on the back? that'd add an inch or so

Yea but would have to stack them to make up 3" look may be a bit off but sure worth looking into

    thanks

Wizard: I suggest getting a expanding stock, or an AR to AK stock adaptor if the selection out there is to small.

Problem is there is no selection out there that I can find except for the nato lenth stock and it's 1/1/2" to short.

Ideally the saiga is perfect for length except the looks, what we need is for someone to make stocks that length..

All that i have found are to short, I guess I could try to carve one out of wood.

    Thanks

    for the responce.

  14. Ever hear of Carolina Shooters Supply, Mississippi Auto Arms, and a few more business members on this site? My first conversion I shopped for all the sales and my second I bought aall the internals from CSS. The parts list is all over this forum. I think hunting for the parts is a large part of the fun.....

    [/quo

Your statement has merit assuming every one has all the needed knowledge to know what to buy, and where.

I for one did not have the knowledge or the experiance to do eather, but a couple members here where very helpful in helping me getting a list together. I got very frustrated and spent a lot of time (hunting the parts and info I almost gave up and I have a lot of patiance) I would vote with (dieb4iwake) the first poster .

    jst my 2cts worth.

  15. If you convert, use a Tapco G2 fire control group (hammer, disconnector, trigger) for about $30. I think it is the best on the market, besides being cheap. It gave me a 2 lb trigger pull and 3 922 compliance parts. Add a US stock and pistol grip from K-Var (1st quality) or Tapco (2nd choice) and you have you 5 922 compliance parts and can use any magazine (with a $30 bullet guide from Dinzag).

Don't you have to grind ( modify the trigger parts to make them fit???
