  1. well, craptastic, I must have one of the bad ones

I was out pig hunting and the pig turned right as I shot, causing me to nick the pig, he got pissed and charged my ass...

I go to shoot again, and click click click.. OMG WTF BBQ, massive adrenaline dump x 3

rack rack rack, WTF rack slap BANG!!

    repeat.

    dead pig...

    almost cost me my ass.

I'm pissed at surefire.. but even more at myself for 1. trusting surefire.. adn 2. for not testing my equipment BEFORE putting my self in a dangerous situation...

Upon examining my mag, there are several indentions (left and right) on the feed ramp, in fact, on both sides you can see where I slapped the charging handle so hard that it broke off a little chip of plastic (forming a mini feed ramp on the feed ramp), proof of massive adrenaline dump, and it looks like the bullet noses drop as you load rounds in... anything past 10 and the bullets start to hit the ramp (not enough to jam though), have a 25 rounder... they WILL NOT FEED AT ALL at 20-25 rounds... and jam often at lower round counts..

  2. Get a POSP it is mount on the side on the receiver, by the way I think Devin-c has one for sale here

on the forum check with him. In few one piece Russian glass, they are Cristal clear for the price

you cant go wrong, usually there glass on the Russian stuff is comparable to glass in more expensive

scopes. 8x42 is what I will use on a .308

in my experience, the 8 x posp does not ahve enough eye relief. go with the 4 power.

I kept hitting myself in the head almost every shot.

  3. this thread is full of FAIL

first of all, the bolt face is what determines headspacing.

By grinding the bolt face, you are increasing the headspace, which could lead to a kaboom.

second, why the heck are you modifying such a critical location. that is almost as stupid (no offence) as grinding a feed ramp into the chamber area (to allow feeding of unmodified mags (or in leu of installing a proper feed ramp)

    :ded:

    DON'T DO IT!!!!!!!!

  4. The magazine may be a little short for a normal 358, but you'll be handloading anyways. Don't forget, round nose FMJ 38 special bullets will work. that would make a nice high velocity round.

I bought a stainless 243 HOWA barrel on gunbroker. Now I just need to find some country gunsmith to lathe it for me.

if you want to get custom, how about a custom gas block, and a longer piston/gas tube?

    mimic a garand action.

should add some accuracy, cause the action won't be cycling while the bullet is in the gun. You could use a 74 brake (without the ports) as a booster.

You could even use a krink gasblock, put it out near the end of the barrel. then all you would need would be a custom gas tube and piston.

    it would be a the

    Garand Krink! TM

  5. there is also the 358 winchester http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.358_Winchester

this is a bad looking dude.

and the 22-250 looks like it might be close enough to work in the 8 round magazines.

ETA: you could load 55 grain green tip in the 22-250 and have a heck of an AP round @ 4000 FPS

  6. spooky, I just thought of doing this conversion today.

I already looked up the specs, and posted on arfcom's ak BIY

then I got the brilliant idea to look here.

    I should have known....

    look sgood to me.

they are selling barrel take offs from bolt guns for CHEAP on gunbroker.

unlike the 50 beowulf conversion I was pondering... this requires much less work...

P.S. hi tony... I met you at the tulsa gun show earlier this year... you might remember my guns you fondled???

this puppy would look nice in 243

  8. I emailed the guy I got it from (buttdope from gunbroker) , he said he would ship the new ones dirrectly to me, no need to try to track down the manufacturer.

    :haha:

Oh, and I did FINALY maqnage to get a mag inserted on a closed bolt... it CAN be done... just not very easy to do.

time for a bho safety, ace folding stock, and a bayo lug from tromix :super:

I played with it some more. on round #10 it wanted to hang up, but I DO have the old style saiga, and 9 functions perfect. (nothing a little dremmel work won't cure):wub::wub:

  9. anybody try to spring temper or harden the stainless lips?

I loaded up my new 10 rounder, and about 5 rounds deep the lips came off and the mag dumped across the room... :cryss:

I took em off and squeezed them in, reinstalled, and it seems to hold.

dry run, 9 rounds, perfect, in an old eaa 12.

can't wait for the new lips... but the plastic is fabulouse!

inserting with 9 loaded and bolt closed is impossible... no biggie, overall, i'm happy, i'll take 4 more deffinitly, (with the new lips :haha: )

    Try a Blackjack buffer.

tony, your gas port is to big. It is not trigger slap, it is the bolt carrier coming back so fast that it hurts. You'll need to use a smaller gas port next time.

The bolt is coming back way to fast and may damage the rivets in back, causing catastrophic failure... I did a 5.8 inch barrel AK pistol, and had the same problem, I welded up the hole and drilled it out much smaller, and used polymer coated ammo, and it works great now.

  11. I have a brand new ten round 223 saiga factory mag, loaded once never fired

, and a bulgarian circle ten 5.45x39.5 which has been converted to fit in an unmodified saiga223, feed ramp has been welded onto the front lip, (there is metal under the plastic) wet rag was stuffed around and inside, and a heat sink was used so the plastic is not damaged. Follower has been modified as per standard epoxy method. Works with about 25 rounds, 99% of the time (the mag I used for the conversion was REALLY old, and has some flashing on the inside about 3 inches down) I never fired it, and it will probably work fine, but dry cycling it, the follower hangs up on the flashing very rarely. IT is not a very sticky hangup, and I suspect that during actuall firing that the shock with keep it from hanging up at all. Anyways, At this price, It's basicaly included for free, for fun or plinking.

    $29 shipped for everything.

I have converted my saiga with a feed ramp and trunion mod, to use standard bulgy double circle ten 223 mags. So I no longer need these.

  12. I got my conversion done. Ran a few clips through it, works great.

I milled and dremmeled the ears a bit, so the ar15 mag will fit up in there high enough. added a feed ramp, and cnc'd a plastic mag block to hold the ar mag in place (based onthe galil adapter)

IT took quite a bit of experimenting to get the feed ramp perfect. I have a lot better understanding of feed geometry now. Didn't need to cut on the breach any. I'm prety happy with it.

a 223 ak that takes ar mags... brilliant!

    thanks for the inspiration.

  13. santanatwo, if you plan to use a high capacity magazine in a saiga rifle that has not been put up to the us parts count, you are breaking the law for some reason.

    don't worry, I know...

I wouldn't dream of putting it together without doing a USA conversion anyways, the saiga stocks SUCK

  14. What modifications to the rifle are required?

add a feed ramp, cut a little off the bottom of the lugs, and a little on the rear of the mag well?

then these will fit and feed perfect?

did I miss anything? how about fit? are they snug or loose or "perfect"?

And these send the bullet to the middle right? not left and right feed?

  15. well, I got a 223 saiga finaly.

So I'm looking at it... and those "ears" you grinded on, the starboard one (that's "right") is part of the trunion that holds the bolt lugs. So you have reduced the strength of the action by 15% to 25% Probably not enough to make a difference, but I thought everybody should know.

I'm still planning on doing it. I tried one of those 5.45 mag conversions, not very happy with it. 5.45 mags just aren't made for 223 it's a half asses sollution IMHO. and waiting for 223 ak mags... well... they are hard to find, often expensive. AR15 mags are everywhere.

  16. very interesting. I've been thinking of something along those lines. I just got a cnc mill, and some scrap plastic, I'll probably try to make one of those adapters out of plastic. maybe even try to incorperate the bullet guide into the adaptor. I'm not to eager to mod the trunion so heavily, as I want it to still take factory mags. Which means the ar15 mags will need trimmed in front. but I'd be happy with that.

    Good job!

  17. beat me to it donn. I mena... LOOK at that brow. I've seen quite a few pictures of people around the world today who have neandrathal features... hell, I'm friends with one /

so instead of the genetics lecture, I'll just state...

Proof bigfoot made love to a russian homeless woman . :haha:

  18. [in the end, we'l need to rely on z1500's good judgement

I'm sure you've all seen the $150 8 rounders on the auction boards (not just ebay)

if people with the bucks to spend want to step in and buy him out, and then gouge the rest of us, that's free market alright,

z1500 has the final say so. :haha:
