  1. I got the Hogue grip today... with the tromix DIY trigger guard there is alot of shaving that needs to be done to get it to fit... and since I have a history of ruining furniture doing this, Im sending it to an expert.

  2. The serial numbers dont seem to mean much. I was looking at another post regarding the serial numbers and how many ports they have. There seems to be very little correlation, if any.

Basically if you have two ports and it doesnt cycle 1300fps shot, send it to RAAC for warranty repair.

  3. Its Chaos at Chaos, due to our soft economy, and my spirit for the 4th of July, I'm offer people a chance to own the top U.S. made rail system offered for Saiga 12 for only $99.98. We have a large batch due back from laser marking July 15, but it could be July 20th or near to that date for sure. Go make your deposit, and happy 4th July! No dealers please. Limited two per order. Sales ends July 31

Cameron you are so awesome. Im finally going to be able to get. God bless the USA!!!

  4. I converted when I got mine and was having trouble with the factory trigger getting stuck on the sear. It wouldn't release most of the time. So I was like, time for a new trigger.

I converted mine even though it doesnt cycle that winchester wal-mart crappy jumbo box.

Im sure it eventually will. I mean, I have three ports. Thats good enough.

Matter of fact. Im going to spend tonight doing laundry and a little more thorough sanding.

After that, Im sure the problems I thought I had cycling cheap ammo not intended for the gun in the first stupid place, will be long gone, or long forgotten.

That being said, if your gun has only 2 ports or has more but some ports don't go all the way through the barrel, for the love of Christ, send it to RAAC BEFORE converting it... please.

  5. ...when you look at one screw the gas plug out and check to see if you can see 4 ports (might not be able to see the one closest to you), if you can see all 4 and it has a BHO Id go for it...

Afaik no "newer" production S-12's, (made in 4th quarter '08 or later), have 4 ports, they instead have 3 larger ports, which work just fine. Also, all recently produced S-12's have BHO's.

To BolivianAK: The main thing to check is to make sure that you have at least 3 unobstructed gas ports. The best way to do that is to remove the gas plug, as justin suggested, look to see how many ports your barrel has, and then pass the end of a dental pick or similar tool, (a bent paperclip will do :D ), as Corbin suggested, through the ports and down into the barrel, (visually checking as you do so), to make sure that the ports are not in any way obstructed and are properly made, (no nasty burrs etc).

Your gun will most likely have 3 unobstructed gas ports. The next thing you should do is take your new shotgun to your local range/wherever and try er out :killer: I recommend starting with high-brass on the lowest gas plug setting that'll cycle it, (generally setting "1" is for high-brass powerful shells, setting "2" is for lower-brass shells); whether it's slugs, buck, or even birdshot it shouldn't matter, so long as the shells have a high powder load. As Corbin mentioned, she's gonna take some "breaking in" before she'll reliably cycle cheap low-brass plinking birdshot, like the Federal bulk-pack Wally World stuff. It is worth mentioning that Federal cheap birdshot is recommended, not Winchester. The Federal cycles better.

Once you've established that she functions well, (you don't have to fire hundreds of shells right off the bat to establish this, but that is the number required for a proper "break-in"), it'll be time to think about what parts you'd like to use to restore your "sporter" S-12 to what she should be, with the proper triggergroup, properly positioned pistol grip, etc. For this, there are dozens of options. I'd recommend you read up on this board. Most everything's been discussed before, (or dozens of times ;) ).

I predict that you'll be very glad that you decided to invest in a Saiga-12. They're one of the most effective and fun firearms I've ever had the pleasure of owning. Once you go through a few boxes of shells with yours, I think you'll agree.

I just want to add here really quickly, without reading what the guys said, that a "trouble free" S12 is an oxymoron. However, the learning experience you get by troubleshooting through the forum is indispensable.

  6. I got the bolt stop and spring in. now im trying to put the safty in, but it seems like the bolt stop is in the way. I have it pushed foward as far as it will go, but still in the way. do you have to grind something here?

    this never gets old.

  7. "I got myself a Saiga-12, now what?"

Shoot the sh!t out of it!

*Which ammo do you prefer for the range?

Something that cycles in the gun on setting #2... like winchester AA supersport. $7.95 at Wal Mart.

    And for home protection?

Something that cycles in the gun on setting #2 AND wont go through your opponent and eat your drywall or cabinetry... like winchester AA supersport. $7.95 at Wal Mart.

*Whats a good brand for clips? I'm primarily interested in 10 or 12 round.

MAGAZINES not clips, Surefire or AGP. AGP seems to give people problems to the point that there is a separate thread about it. However, I have one and it works fine. I dont like this big magazines however and instead I have several factory mags. If you cant do it in five shots you need serious help.

*I'm interested in modifying my S-12 with a rail and pistol grip, but I don't want to do any drilling or cutting. Is this possible?

Tapco makes some toys that will employ a pistol grip. without modifying. For the rail, go with Chaos.

I dont know the specs of this gun. If someone could enlighten me and point me in the right directions so that I could learn more about it that would be great. Looked all over the site but turned up empty.

I also want to get that fore-end and buttstock so if someone knows of a place like rusmilitary that might have the parts please let me know.

    Thanks.

  9. my local walmarts (3 of them) carry remington sluggers in 15 packs for 7.96 i've had very good luck with them

Stay away from the Wal Mart winchester 100 pack. despite a polished bolt and feeding ramp, I have a 90% FTE with those pieces of crap.

  10. No offense, but what the hell are you guys doing with all that rail?

I agree that there is such a thing as too much rail... and I think this particular model has arrived in that realm

  11. Use a bolt hold-open selector lever. Use whatever ammo you want. Only downside to this solution is you can't load it +1.

Thanks for the input guys. I do plan on reloading the silverbear or something similar. I keep the bolt open now. I have a BHO on my gun but Im not sure what it does to the life of the spring.

  12. ACA128.jpg

This ammo is made by Silver Bear. I dont know how good it is or anything. However, in theory, if the whole casing is made of metal and you load the first shot with this silver bear ammo, you should be able to keep the bolt closed indefinately and at the ready without squishing the round and risking a feed failure.

    Any thoughts?
