  1. Congratulations! The guys are right. It's a life changer.

I always liked this quote. Kind of sums it up.

Making the decision to have a child is momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body. ~Elizabeth Stone

Congratulations! This quote is so true. Try not to worry about things. Of course there's a lot that could go wrong over the next 9 months and 18 years but worry will only taint the joys of the whole experience. Fatherhood is a huge responsibility but try not to look at it in it's entirety, take one step at a time and you'll adjust to the tasks at hand.

  2. I am planning on putting on an ar mag adapter for my 223 and they claim a bullet guide is not necessary.

The part of the adapter that goes in the gun has a lip that will act as a bullet guide.

If I do the pistol grip conversion myself can I put the parts in and get them tig welded by a welder? Or does it require that a gunsmith has to do the conversion and then weld the holes?

You can do the conversion yourself. Nothing needs to be welded unless you want to close up the holes in the receiver.

Dinzag has some plastic plugs for the receiver holes, they work great.

  3. Deadly force is Deadly force. In the Kentucky CCW course nothing of this sort is discussed and there is nothing within the laws either. Concealed deadly weapons in Ky could be anything from brass knuckles to an AK in your trench coat. If I had to kill someone the last thing I'd be worried about is the type of ammo I used.

  4. Police carry Shotguns for riot control so they can use "less-lethal" projectiles (bean-bags, rubber slugs, and tear gas), not so they can do some mall-ninja hollywood style street sweep. Many police still carry shotguns on the rack in their cruiser because that is all they are allowed to carry - when given the option of a rifle, they always take the rifle.

All of the world's militarys use the shotgun for door breaching, rebar cutting, less-lethal crowd control, and for CQB to a limited extent.

Also on the training issue, its much easier to train someone to use the AK than the shotty.

That is all. Like I said, shotty is a very specialized weapon.

Bullshit... police in my county carry shotguns loaded with 00-buck, in each cruiser, not bean bags or rubber bullets. I'm fairly certain that they aren't trained in mall ninja tactics, get a clue. Using your logic, stage coaches used a double barrel shotgun as a weapon of choice to scare away chickens.

I think stage coaches used shotguns because the AK hadn't been invented yet. :haha: I think you both are somewhat correct but you can't make blanket statements about Law enforcements reasons for issuing one over the other. The Shotgun is very versatile for up close work and many do use them for less than lethal riot control. My buddy keeps an AR in the trunk of his cruiser which they call an Urban Patrol Rifle. I always laugh at him when he calls it that but whatever. I'd rather have an AK or shotgun.

  5. G23, compact without being too small. Good capacity. .40 is just as effective as .45.

If all you can carry is FMJ and you want something small enough to conceal but not as small as the sub-compacts, The G23 is your best choice. And a good one it is. Some feel it's the best overall Glock and I agree. Other options are the G30 or G36 but they don't have as high round capacities and I think the G30 is to fat.

  6. I know it's here somewhere, I just can't find it.

Am in the middle of my conversion and installing a Tapco single hook G-2, I believe I recall that one trigger leg need to be shorthend for the BHO, but not sure how much and how the spring and BHO lever go.....HELP.

Are there any pictures or video of how the BHO goes back ?

    Thanks

I think you mean one side of the hammer, not trigger. Anyways, once you get the pin through the Hammer and BHO you'll see more clearly what needs to be done. Just give it a shot and keep asking questions. It's really quite easy once you try a few times. I forget who gave the tip but it is easier if you bend the tip of the long leg of the BHO spring up slightly so it doesn't grab the bottom of the receiver and then bend the tip of the short end over and inward so that it grabs the slot on the BHO better. Then use the dental floss, fishing line or thin wire pulled through the BHO slot to pull the spring down enough to get the holes lined up in the spring and receiver so your trigger pin will push all the way through.

  7. The Saiga Galil hand guard is probably a decent piece. I ordered the wrong one (AK version) and mocked it up on mine and did not like the feel of it so decided to stay with the factory Saiga hand guard. For me it just felt wrong but the only way to tell is to hold one yourself. It's the most affordable way to go if you have to make the change. I drilled holes in the factory one and am very happy so far.

  8. I'll add a few observations of my own. A drill press is a plus but a hand drill or dremel will suffice. A vice is super handy. A dental pick is so useful for the hammer spring and BHO spring that I did the whole conversion without needle nose pliers.

Total cost break down for mine: $585

    $425 rifle

    $30 feed ramp

$80 stock, pistol grip and hardware

    $30 tapco G2 FCG

$20 magazine (I bought more than one but this just signifies the switch over to 30 rounders)

Of course it gets a lot more expensive when you start adding up Ammo and magazines. I also would like a sling and mag pouch.
