  1. Saigas were just cheap, the conversion was fun for people to play with.

They were never real quality firearms.

Now with prices as high as they were BEFORE the ban, the other AK variants are superior in every way.

The 12ga is the only real loss, but other options are out there.

So Long.......and thanks for all the fish

I see what your saying but I kinda dissagree. The Saiga itself is a quality firearm. No diffferent then any other AK. To me its the DIY parts that are so so

  2. I dont post often in here so stuff tends to build up. From what I can remember.

    1. 10 surp x39 mags

    2. 3 VZ58 mags

    3. Case of GT x39

    4. 2 cases of Wolf x39

    5. S&W 66 (mint collectable with box and paperwork and presentation case)

    6. Romanian RPK Iraqi contract with bipod and folding stock

    7. Hungarian FEG AK47

    8. S&W 36 snubby

Not even going to count random mags and boxes of ammo

Im sure Im forgetting at least 1 Mosin and probably a few other things

  3. Got to play with one yesterday at my LGS. $1600 rifle. Its a lot lighter then it looks. Very easy to manuver. Thats the best I could say about it. The folding sights are very thin plastic and the size of silver dollars. Feels like someone used a plastic pepsi bottle to make them. The sights dont automatically latch when folding. There is a sliding tab that needs to be puhed over while holding the sight down. They do however spring up automatically when "opened" The stock is a thinner cheesier version of the FN stock.Operates the same way but it feels so thin and flimsy....almost as if it came off an airsoft or a watergun. Now this is only from holding the rilfe and playing with it. Maybe it'll stand up to actual battle use but I have a feeling it wont unless, like HK, Beretta made a tougher military version

  4. This is old news. The article is a little over the top with their headline. Taking away my guns?  Really?

Im not saying to do anything unlawful but how do you know if you have ivory? I guess if you payed an arm and a leg for the handle it might be but I couldnt tell ivory from plastic. And where does it say you have to report that you have ivory grips? Last time I checked when a gun is sold only paperwork on the gun is done and not on the grips.

  5.

Why would you spend your hard earned money on something that has show to fail often?

Well if what you just typed is true then surely you can link us to all those tests where the new mag failed.

And since we are talking about the new Tapco mag here, not the old one, please only link to tests of the Tapco smooth side mag.

Here is a test done I believe by mancat.  Near the end he drives over the mag.

And here is a test where a guy throws a fully loaded mag at a concrete slab 3 times.  It spit out a few rounds and got dinged up but didn't fail.

So there's a few good reviews? Im sure I can find a few good reviews on anything. I'll let the company history speak for itself.

  6. At $5.99 you can use it and lose it,  who cares.

Why would I throw away $5.99? And since no one buys just one mag why would I throw away $50 - $100?

Theres a difference between snubbery and buying shit. Why would you spend your hard earned money on something that has show to fail often? To save $3? I dont like throwing away money. I'd rather spend the extra few dollars and buy mags that I know will last. Or save the extra buck or two but buy twice

  7. Im kicking around ideas on getting a compact or at least semi compact 45 acp. I know you guys have em and have lots of suggestions.

Not interested in glocks or XDs. Sorry guys no hate. Just not interested in hammer-less. This go round.

Edit: forgetting the important part. Under a grand. Really would like to keep it under 700.

There isnt. HK is at about a grand and all the 1911s that are that small tend to be finicky. Everythng else is striker. There is the new Sig 227 whick is a double stack 220 but its new and so far the reviews are 50/50, and the price is close to a grand. Another option is the S&W 3rd gen sub compact 4516 or 457 (the economy version) or the compact 4566 . Not bad guns but no longer in production and while they can take some abuse S&W no longer makes parts for them so keeping parts on hand requires constant searching as they are very popular guns and people snatch up parts when they become available.

  8. All my carry guns are police trades, most have trijicon and Im not sure what the USP9 has but it must have been replaced shortly before they replaced the guns cause Ive owned it for 4 years and its still like new.

I have fiber optic on my last edc for years that work well but in no light they are non existent.

With my new od g19 I want some badass night sights. I've started a thread on glock talk for pictures, here's the link...choose for yourself. http://www.glocktalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1533800

I still haven't made up my mind but I'm leaning towards the trijicon

I've got a G-17 that I use for HD too, and I've got Trijicon Night sights on it, I love 'em.

Due to street lights, my house is never totally dark, so you'd be able to see the silhouette of a bad guy, the night sights let you aim accurately in such a situation, or at least let you see the general direction the gun is pointing if you don't have time to aim.

You should never shoot at a silhouette without positive target acquisition/ID.

True, but you have to use some common sense.  For me, there is no one in my house but me ...so if I see a silhouette of a grown person in the middle of the night it is certainly no one who is welcome

    2) There will always be a vocal bunch who hates what we have now, another one who likes it... Some of those who are not happy with current equipment will want whatever we had before, others will want new and cutting edge. There's always some arguing for bigger, and some for smaller. It costs a lot of money to make changes, and large organizations change slowly and seldom. Even when great resources in trials prove something new is better, the programs are usually scrapped and the military sticks with what is working 'well enough.' Therefore articles about how the military is going to change should be taken with a great deal of skepticism. Ditto, for articles which present the military as having one agreed opinion or intent.

I've never served, so someone please correct me if my thinking is all wrong, but if you're down to your pistol in a combat situation you essentially don't have a gun and may as well start hurling insults and rocks, right?

Soo... Since it is probably YOUR life on the line. in a very hail mary moment, just why in the hell can't you carry whatever you want as long as it meets a minimum standard and you pay to own/maintain it? Obviously the military couldn't support 800 different pistol calibers, but if you want a Hi Point 9mm or a $5000 target 9mm, why not?

Cops can do this in many jurisdictions and rely on their pistols far more than soldiers. I suppose I'm living in a world where things could be as simple as they really could be.

Its not just "your life on the line" its also the guy next to you and the guy behid you and the guy whos two soldiers in front. You are a fighting unit not Rambo. Because no one will want to be next to the guy who thinks a Bergmann is good enough because his granddad carried it in ww1. I dont want to run out of ammo and find you you desided to bring 9 largo and a 30-30 rifle. I also dont want to be next to the guy who doesnt have parts to fix his antiquated gun. When individuals are allowed to bring they're own they often choose using emotion instead of logic. I dont want to be stuck with the guy using a 38spl snubby because it has pretty lines and Glocks are plastic and ugly. The military is a machine, no emotion involved...ok less emotion involved. The simplest thing would be for everyone to have the same not for everyone to supply their own.

This was a problem in ww1 and ww2 especially with Germany. Their handguns were Mausers, Astras, Radom, FEG, FN, Steyr, Saur, Star, Walther, and a host of Czech and captured Russian handguns. Calibers ranged from 32, 380, 9mm, 7.63x25, 7.62Tok, 9x23 Largo.

I dont think the 1911 is a great idea either. Something thats easier to fix would probably be a better choice

I am not for or against anything here, but what is easier to fix/maintain than a 1911??????

    Jack

So maybe its a little quicker to strip but all parts need to be fitted. So...install, chech, remove, file, reinstall, check, remove, file some more....etc...etc. Nothing on 1911 is a drop in part.

  11. Why buy that when you can buy this?

    attachicon.gifArchangel.jpg

Ok. Maybe not the best argument against it but they kinda look alike amazing.gif

One is an accurate new rifle the other is a very well used and then butchered 70 year old Soviet rifle in a fancy Bubba stock. One shoots match bullets out of a new barrel and does 1moa or better all day long the other shoots ammo made to different specs under different quality control standards out of a used and pitted 70 year old barrel and can do a solid 4 moa more or less ...if the ammo is good and the crown isnt to buggerd up. To this day Im surprised that the US military and fed swat havent changed over to Moisins in Archangel stocks!

  12. In a way he's right.  The taxation and stamp authority should be IRS, the criminal/investigative division should be FBI, and arrest authority should be US Marshals.

In fact, ALL arrest athority should be given to Secret Service, US Marshals, and Customs/Border Patrol.  The rest of the alphabets should have to use them to make arrests.  That would cut down on the SWAT and regulatory abuses.  If they can't get the Marshals to agree to the arrest, it doesn't get made!

And then some one will cry that what idiot thought to make X amount of agenciey but only Y amount have arrest powers. Now those who can are being stretched thin. Yea it sure would cut down SWAT.......wait what? How so? Like those 3 dont have their own SWAT or CERT teams. Oh and going from arrest to arrest to arrest because now they are the only ones with that power will mean that most likely they will be going as SWAT only. If they are going to be doing some one elses dirty work you can bet they'll be prepared for the worst.

2 out of 3 of your agencies are DHS (secret service & Border patrol)

The Marshals arnt going to sit around reviewing cases and taking votes on who gets arrested. They'll opperate the same way. Warrant issued, arrest made.

  13. I tried 5 guys. One time was enough, Nothing there that I cant get inthe frozen section of any avg grocery store. The burger was flat and no taste, the hotdog was like a regular store bought hotdog but at the price of the entire package. The fries were ok.

I buy cow from farms so I make my own ground beef and my own burgers. Besides that I buy everything else I need from butchers.
