  1. One word, Mildot.

What he said, plus alot of time practicing your mil-dot math.

I once thought these were an interesting item so the next time I went to the gun shop I asked to see one. They weigh in at almost two pounds, the glass is only ok and the salesman said that he wouldn't buy one after his experiance with it on semi snowy days during deer season (kept giving him the wrong distance). He also said he really didn't like it at low light (evening) because everything would "blur together".

It's an LWRC R.E.P.R fella........get her what she deserves! For that amount of money you could pick up a nice trijicon or IOR mil-dot and be set for many years to come.

  2. Off topic a little but....are we talking black powder like musket or like a Sharps blacp powder cartridge? Cause the cartridge can and is accurate past 1000 yards....just saying.

I suppose he meant the more accurate ones used for hunting like your talking about (second shooter). Regardless, the point is that I'd never put down my more technologically advanced systems because a black powder rifle is "good enough". Heck, I'd take a bow and arrow at closer ranges cause last time I checked it takes awhile to reload a black powder rifle.

  3. Interesting...

Would be a bit nicer than .300 Whisper, since that has a different case head.

300Whisper and 300BLK are essentially the same round.

300whisper can be made from .221 fireball or .223/5.56 brass,

    300BLK is made from .223/5.56.

How is the "case head" different.

AAAAAAAAAAAND congrats to you Sumsky! Sweet setup.

  4. This guy seems pretty upset about not being able to own a firearm ? i have heard that in the US(im from nz) you can own any blackpowder firearm without a licence, if that is true why dosnt he just get a nice ruger old army and modern inline bp rifle, both are equal to most centerfire firearms in accuracy, slow to reload for sure and need some maintanence but good for any threat from 6feet away to 600 feet away. they may even be more usefull when centerfire ammo runs scarse? bottom line is 6 accuratly placed shots from an ROA will beat a mag full of rounds being sprayrd gangster style from a glock!

Bullshit. You shoot at me with your black powder rifle. I'll start from 1000m out and you take potshots at me ( careful, I move!) and we'll see how it goes from 100m in when I get there.

Technology (even a 6 shooter) triumphs this. History 101.

  5. When I say weapon mountable, I meant a light that can take the recoil. You can mount a lot of different lights to your gun, but how many of them won't self destruct or destroy the batteries?

Pretty much any surefire light is capable of withstanding the recoil and heat that a gun can put out. I've seen many fixed to weapons with zero issues. Great to have all that light, but I find the weight to be counter productive.

  6. I actually went with a Streamlight M6 from a recent trade. I was told it was something different but it seemed strong enough to withstand some beating. I also figured since this was just to try out the concept before spending any serious money (Surefire X400, Streamlight TLR-2), it would do just fine.

I've also heard some good things about Fenix, very bright. How reliable/rugged are they? Ben4345, you just need to use some scope rings or actual flashlight mounts. I've done this with my Surefire GP in the past but don't really like the added weight.

My main goal was to stay under 16oz of weight and add a laser illuminator since I've never really trained with one. That seems like it would be easy but the ounces quickly turn in to pounds.

At an advertized 3.7 ounces (with battery) this oppurtunity was just to good to miss. My only complaint is that the light seems bright enough for use indoors but doesn't really penetrate at night outdoors (90 lumens). If I like the concept I'll up the ante to a brighter light, I think 150 lumen+ should be good for what I'm looking for.

  7. Ruffian72-Think you can pick me up at the end of the world? Sounds pretty comfy in that rig!

8.Porsche 911-If it's the end of the world I'd steal it and just repeatedly drive it around the block while listening to really loud techno and speaking in a German accent.

9.Jeep Wrangler-been in a rollover in one, no thanks. Won't even get in one now.

10.Rally fighter-I'd never make it out of the driveway cause I'd just be staring at it licking my lips.

  8. I'm waiting to see the guy who preps because "I have all this food and fuel in the event that I lose my job and still want to have the ability to support my family".....Doesn't anyone else plan like this? I remember when I was younger and times were actually really good economically and finding out that my Grandpa and Grandma were preppers (both lived through the great depression as young adults) by walking in to a room full of food and water in there basement. TP, wood, propane, gas, hand tools, etc.....in short my Grandpa was prepared for anything. As a WWII/Korean war vet he used to tell me "other country's used to fear stepping foot on US soil, partially because of our military but largerly in part because the civilians wouldn't lay down and surrender even if the military was defeated".

    His choice of weaponry?

A 1911 and a Garand- although out dated today in comparison to modern weapons I saw that man do astounding things with that rifle.

  10. Hi Yarp and welcome to the BIN meeting. My name is Arik and I too have been suffering with this for years. Just this Sunday I saw a very nice Norinco 1911 for $299. Only defect were the retarted, rap around, large wooden grips. You can guess what happened next. I need a set of desent grips!

"Coffee and cookies are in the corner, LOL!"

    It's a vicious vicious circle.........

  11. Hello, my name is YARP and I have "buy it now" syndrome.

The doctor said I would have "relapses" after my initial outbreak.....I've been doing so well until this weekend. Off I went to the gun show to sell some thingshappy.png, this money was supposed to be used for my future business plans018.gif yet the urge to resist good deals was tough.....but I pulled through only picking up the needs on my list!biggrin.png Pleased with doing such a good job I headed merrily on my way........as I drove along I saw a Cabelasrolleyes.gif "what harm could one little stop do" I thought in the back of my mind, "I'll just be quick cause I've gotta make it to this super bowl party".

And there I was in the middle of the Used guns section when it happened........

"oh shit, I gotta get out of here!" but my body was already under the control of the BIN Syndrome. I just kept walking towards the salesman, rifle in hand with that dumb "I wanna buy this" look on my face. Lucky for me my "I just left the gun show so everything can be bartered on" syndrome kicked in to overdrive.

Salesman:"how can I help you sir?"

Me:"Hi, I'd like this at a reduced price."

    Salesman:"but sir that's already a good deal"

Me:"agreed, but this isn't the accu-trigger model as stated and the stock seems to have a slice along it"

Salesman:"oh that's Georges rifle, he cut the stock with a box cutter when he opened it and I think that one is pre-2007. even though it's already a good price I can knock a $100.00 off"

At this point I should have usually just said "that's a hell of a deal" and shaken hands......but oh no, there goes my "I just left the gun show so everything can be bartered on" syndrome, AGAIN.

Me:"how about throwing in a Warne scope mount" At this point I can't even believe the shit falling out of my mouth, all I can do is stare blankly.

Salesman:"did you just leave the gun show?"

Me: staring at the ground and replying sheepishly "yeah"

Salesman: "in that case, sure.....your wife'll just kill you when you get home anyway, might as well let you enjoy your last few hours!"

    Me:"ummmm, thanks?!"

And that's how I ended up with a very nice Savage 10FP Tactical for $365.00red_heart.gif

  12. Yeah, man that's basically what i'm talking about, just a small slush fund incase something fucks up. Also, the payments are going to bw a bit higher until I can get my homestead status in place.

The good and the bad all come at once but it gets a hell of alot better once you know what to expect. It took us a year to figure out a general idea of about how much we needed in the "emergency fund" just to keep the bills current for three months. Stupid bills cuttin in to my fun money!
