Personal fave=308
elia.john, re-check your trajectory tables.
308 is a very versatile round with an excellent ballistic coefficient.
Shaneman- Less barrel whip maybe?
In short hitting paper and being able to drop something are two different things.
That's the only explanation I could think of. I've seen this in other types of .308s too, maybe .308 just favors a short barrel?

BTT
C'mon 1liter I'm not gonna chase you down to give ya free stuff!
-
i would say either will do fine....
the 308 would have more thump left......but it also cost more drop....
the 223 would shoot flatter but be like a stinger from a 22lr.....
if your punching paper and steel i would say 223 cheaper than 308.....less recoil faster follow up...
That's a pretty common misconception, but all other things being equal, the higher BC bullet is gonna have less drag and carry velocity longer. A quality .308 bullet is gonna have like .5, and a quality .224 is gonna have like .2.

I'm sure with good ammo either gun could do it. 10" at 400 is basically 2.5 MOA. My .308 could do that even with crap ammo.
I would be worried more about energy at that range. You're looking at about 300 ft/lbs of energy which is about twice that of a 22LR.
Not saying it won't put someone down, because our boys in green do it every day out to 600 with a .223. But they don't get to pick their caliber....
edit: I would get whatever barrel length you want to handle, mine started long and I cut it to 16", actually got more accurate.

So did you call the asshole from Bushmaster back and go :haha: ?
If you paid $2400 you should not go to GB right now and check availability.....
edit: I just noticed this thread is a month old, sry

If these get imported at all, definitely a gold mine for parts as previously stated. Or a cool training rifle.
I don't understand why people are crying about it only having 10 round magazines. You guys realize that the Saiga-12 is only made with 5/8 round magazines. Has that stopped you guys from owning 12 and 20 round drums?
People act as if there aren't US manufacturers who would jump on making magazines for these the day these get announced to be imported.
Did you all forget the S-12 comes with a five rd mag, the 762x39,223,5.45 all come with a ten rd mag's. And many mag mfg's will start making mags with a larger capacity for this 22lr.
I will buy one, been looking to replace my Rem522 22lr I had since I was 13.
You guys didn't have S-12s before high-caps were available did you? Believe me, no one will jump on it, not until there's a dedicated forum for the gun with 10,000+ members. It was a painful wait.

That's pretty odd, I swear I hit "Add Reply" earlier.
Well the RNG came up with no. 11 so 1liter takes it! Congrats man, PM me your info so I can send this black beauty over to ya'.
Eric, yeah it was for a 12, did you get my last PM? You didn't miss much, no coyotes, but a lot of Rock Chucks met their demise, by way of 168gr Amax. That session included one shot at 515yds, but it took me about 12 rounds to hit him!

Alright so I got my Hogue grip in today from the last giveaway, and I'm putting up an old AGP 10 rounder. I know there has been lots of problems with these, but I got these when they first came out and have had zero malfunctions with them. I seem to have a few too many and it's the only ite I'm willing to give up that someone would actually want.
Make any silly old post to let me know you're in.
I'll pick someone I like I mean I'll pick someone at random by their post number on 18 April 8:00pm PST, and ship it to them free.
Shane
edit: I don't know what PIFR stands for, meant to say PIF. Try to get past it.

Looked at GunBroker the other day--there was an Iraqi capture SVD for $15000, a Russian one, a couple Chinese NDM's, and a couple Tigrs (nonmatching furniture even) with prohibitive prices.
Unless it was from the Gulf War or de-milled, it's probably bullshit. Did it have a capture slip?

I knew exactly what he was doing and why, and yes, he knew what he was doing.
Ya learn alot spending weekends on airports.
Dude, plenty of GA enthusiast, both private and commercial cargo, have the option if they have the gear.
Fact is that most, outside of sport/stunt, don't have it nor want it, or misunderstand it/think its only for pussies, and the fact that many aircraft are almost impossible to egress while in flight in such situations.
Shoulda been more specific, passenger aircraft. Like, with pax on board. If you bail in that situation, you are a dirtbag.
Always been intrigued by the short aerobatic courses taught in Citabrias. They make you wear parachutes for that so it's got to be fun. Though I'll bet I've done scarier shit on my own in a C172/150 or H-60. Specially the 60.
-
It takes balls to take one to the ground if you've the option of bailing out and don't, if the option ain't there, then it ain't ballsy, its just trying to survive.
That's part of the deal. You only have the option of not flying them. But in general aviation you don't have the option of bailing either. It's the military one-seaters with their 1 step EPs (eject)
It does indeed take brains and some very mad skillz to bring a crippled aircraft down to a survivable landing.
Was on a C182 when engine started cutting out on climb out, approx 1K AGL, pilot gave the order to remain buckled up and took'er around, engine quit on turn to final.
Deadstick landing, I was but CoG weight when I was ordered to scoot almost atop the Flap wheel between the seats... Mad skillz
You must have thought he was nuts, but it sounds like he knew what he was doing.
I know others who weren't as lucky, some walked away hurting, some carried and others buried.

Please see first post... I'd rather jump out of the helo than fly it.
Thought about learning to fly before, just never did it.
I read the first post. I'm not impressed.
"I'd rather jump out than fly it" is something narcissistic skydivers and "airborn" fags say. I've heard it a million times. It's probably equivalent to people asking you "why would you want to jump out of a perfectly good airplane baaaugh!"
Pilots aren't impressed by this.
Seriously, it takes balls and brains to take one to the ground.
Do it, do it.

I'm too old & too fucked up... 41 and have disqualifying physical attributes.
I wanted to go drive truck in Iraq as a civilian contractor, but wife threatened to divorce me
Then learn to fly helicopters. MUCH more complicated EPs, and you WILL have to use one. They WILL malfunction (shit an engine, compressor stall, rotor droop) and you will have VERY little time to react correctly. You will suck seat cusion into your asshole, and if you make it out, you've just saved your own life, and the lives of the PAX on board. Pretty good feeling.

WTF happened to this thread?
-
If I can come up with a spare $200 this thing would be worth it just to see the WTF looks on peoples faces!!! :lolol:
Oh hell yeah I would love to go to a place where cops frequent just to see the looks on their faces as I show them the paperwork and they put their handcuffs back in their little pouch!! :lolol:

Is .223 not a .22 caliber?
I you've never priced supressors, there's a diff between a rimfire 22 supressor and a .223.
Usually about $400 diff.
-
That rocks Van. Is this an introductory thing? I'll be moving to a state that allows them early next year.
So, be honest, how would it do with .223?
ETA: I've only priced out cans once. Does it really balance out to being worth $700 dollars or is there maybe a little "not everyone can have this" tax in there?
-
It better be a one shot kill if you're betting your life on a Thompson Contender (Single shot)
I'll take a G19/23 thanks.
-
I've never heard anything positive about the dead coyote shells. Everyone says save your money and get #4.
My .02

11 is the number that came out, grats to Shaneman with a 12. I sent you a PM.
Sweet! Thanks Klassy, I never got your PM though, sent you one.
-
While I don't disagree with either of you about these two calibers, I have personally seen more people get REALLY DEAD on the streets with these two rounds that all of the others combined
I think that probably has to do with the amount of Lorcin and Jimenez pistols on the street. Super conceal-able and cheap.
-
Although I never understood the guys who say they want 5000rds of .22LR at the end of the world? Please explain tin foil hat guys.....
Because you can hunt radioactive squirrels 4-eva! and you can use the extra cash on a solar powered cappuccino machine. and a loom to weave your hemp underpants on....
Little do they know... some Saiga owning asshole will come along with 5000 rounds of x39 and take their shit anyway.....
P.A.W. Day 1.... Juggs becomes a cannibal raider.....
+1
Always irritates me when people talk up their .22s. Any round is great at 25yds. My .22 pisses me off everytime I shoot it.

Excellent choice going with the FCP-K IMO. For the money spent on the BAS you could find a donor action and get into a custom rig. You could also get it in one of the sexy calibers like .338 Edge.
308 or 223?

Yeah I've currently got a hard-on for either a .264 Win mag (same bullet as the swede) or a .264-300 WM. BC in the .6s and it screams! I think that .264-300 will send a 140gr at 3400fps!
That's a 1 mile gun.
