  1. How hard is it to remove the top half of the rail? Is it just a matter of 4-6 screws? Does it slide off somehow? I shoot mostly corrosive ammo and don't mind a few screws to clean the gas tube out, but don't want to have to remove the entire thing every time. The simpler, the better. Either way, VERY cool design!!!
  2. Pics posted! http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?showtopic=49357
  3. Alright, finally got to do my conversion. (First one, I might add) Pretty basic, but I'm pretty stoked about it! Here's the before (didn't last like this for long)... And After! And finally, the new rifle keepin' the sidearm company. Can't wait to go break this bad boy in!
  4. Alright guys, finally an update... THE CONVERSION IS DONE!!! Whoopy! I got the rifle and mags in and have been using any free-time I could manage to get this thing done. Got hung up on a couple silly things but learned ALOT and can't wait to help my friend with his! (and how to avoid my mistakes) Pics will get posted as soon as I can find that dumb cable that connects the camera to the computer. Anyways, I think it turned out pretty good, especially seeing how it was my first conversion. All that's left is the bullet guide at this point.
  5. Just curious, why are you replacing the piston? If the pistol grip and buttstock are U.S. made, it is not necessary to change. And the Russian one is no doubt of better quality. Jim Honestly, the piston was just sort of for safe measure. I read some conflicting information about whether or not the pistol grip counted as a US part, since the gun didn't originally have a PG. **shrug** Better safe than sorry, and if nothing else, I always have an extra piston laying around.
  6. I finally ordered my 5.45 Saiga yesterday! It should ship out in the next day or two. Also, I went ahead and ordered 4 Bulgarian surplus mags today for it. I've been accumulating parts to convert it over the last month or so and I think I'm finally ready. Here's what I've got: - Black synthetic fixed stock - Tapco G2 trigger group - Hogue pistol grip (and nut) - Dinzag bullet guide kit - Tapco piston - retainer plate - hole plugs ... am I missing anything? .... other than a big ol' crate of ammo to break her in? This is my first conversion and I can't tell you guys how ex
  7. Thanks for the great responses you guys! I really appreciate it! This is my first conversion, so I'm a little nervous, but the more I read and see, the more doable this seems to become.
  8. Thanks for the quick reply and for the sanity check nalioth! Any idea where I could find this method illustrated?
  9. Hey guys, I've tried looking around, but I guess my search-fu is getting weak. I'm getting ready to order a 5.45 Saiga and plan to convert it. I've already been collecting some parts to make sure I'm 922R compliant. Am I correct in understanding that all I need to do in order to use a Tapco double hook trigger is file an extra notch in the bottom of the receiver, assuming I ditch the Bolt Hold Open? Thanks ahead of time for helping a newb.
