  1. I have been a bit slow in getting these, as I picked up enough of the Russian 8 rounders circa 2010 to satisfy me. However, I am very pleased with the three 10 rounders that I just bought. They fit perfectly out of the box, and were 100% reliable with the first 90 rounds I put through them.

Thank you for making these. Top quality and excellent value!

  2. Ok, someone please explain this to me because I am confused. What happened to the "off duty police officer" who first engaged Mateen in a firefight. He did not stop Mateen. Did he miss all of his shots and run away? If he was killed by Mateen why is there no info on a hero who tried to stop the terrorist? Did he follow Mateen into the club and still not manage to stop him? Does anyone have intel on this individual and his story?

Since this was apparently a suicide mission to achieve martyrdom, why take hostages? Even if he ran out of ammo he could keep killing with a knife, or a bottle, or set the place on fire. There is something strange about the story that isn't fitting together for me, so please help me out.

  3. Don't really need a diagnosis: some would say that merely being prescribed any drug with an association with increased suicidal thinking or violent behavior is enough to arouse suspicion: i.e. "Serious neuropsychiatric events including, but not limited to, depression, suicidal ideation, suicide attempt, and completed suicide have been reported in patients taking CHANTIX."

"....Consider Nassau County, Long Island, a populous suburban county east of New York City. The Nassau County Police Department (ncpd) oversees the issuance of handgun licenses, which must be renewed every five years.

Last year, the ncpd added a new question to the application:

“Have you used or still use [sic] narcotics, tranquilizers or anti-depressant medication? If yes, record doctor’s name, address and phone number, (attach).” A list of all relevant

    medications is required...."

  4. Fascinating technical stuff, but way beyond my abilities. Tom as always stands behind his work and sent back a repaired carrier that looks very good. The R and R works perfectly for at least the first 160 rounds of birdshot and 5 of 00 buck. I don't know how its steel differs from Izhmash but suspect that it does.

As for the design, I don't know why the end tapers down around the piston attachment, there is no need to have the area so thin.

Bottom line imo and experience is that if the S12 fills an important home defense or business niche, then having a second bolt carrier/piston rod makes sense.

  5. Don't know the exact process, but it was Tom at Cadiz with a new bolt carrier and his HD rod. Less than 1200 rounds though it and you see the result. My original carrier failed at about 7500 rounds and we tig welded in an HD rod, which failed within 250 rounds. I am not sure that the rod matters so much when the design of the carrier has so little metal around the threads of the rod. The steel might not be perfect also, but these were two Izhmash carriers presumably years apart in manufacture. Alas, but thank you for your sympathy.

  6. Badly designed bolt carrier, imo. This is the second new carrier with a hd rod that I had fail. Going to take a new R and R carrier out to try tomorrow.

And for those who are interested, the gun is a 2007 Tromix and I don't think it is overgassed. Almost all I shoot through it is birdshot at the skeet range.

  7. Dead thread walking!

Here are some another picture for your collection, Pauly. New bolt carrier with HD rod after about 1200 skeet rounds. I must be having some bolt carrier karma issue here.

On the other hand, the quality control of these items might not be the highest....

  8. I bought a replacment from R and R targets last year. Give them both the length of your piston rod and the total length of the bolt carrier, just to make sure there is a perfect fit. I'm very happy with the workmanship and function of mine.

  9. What ever happened to just practicing with the real thing?

You can maximize your live fire practice by establishing good habits with both dry fire and airsoft practice. Some ranges will not allow drawing from a holster or other restrictions which inhibit realistic training. In addition, if you are considering carrying for self defense I definitely recommend experiencing a force on force class where you can test your equipment and yourself in a realistic setting. There isn't much stress standing in one place and shooting a target, and even matches don't create the sort of pressure that facing off with one or two opponents armed with airsoft or a training knife. I have yet to meet anyone who hasn't changed a few of their "range" habits as a result.

Suarez has an excellent DVD on force on force with airsoft that can get you started if you can't find a class locally, and having taken 6 or 7 of their classes I can state that their format and instructors are first rate.

Riccochet and bounce back of these little bbs can be surprising, so always wear safety glasses even when shooting at a target. A full paintball mask is necessary for force on force. Even spectators who are observing a force on force class should have their masks on.

  10. Sorry. WA is Western Arms. Also, I should clarify that rather than a paintball type force on force capture the flag type game, I am referring to using an airsoft in brief, scripted exercises to develop an awareness of any weaknesses in equipment or tactics when faced with a situation where you think you know what to do with your gun.

For example, being shot in the hand, and observing how often this happened in the class, I committed to much more ambidextrous practice.

So, there is not any running through the woods. You may have to take a couple fast steps to avoid the first bullets coming your way, however.

  11. Airsoft force on force changed my whole perspective on carrying a handgun. A lot of practice is possible that fills the gap between dry fire and live fire. Lasers are fine, but actually impacting a target gives a much more realistic effect and the pattern of shots can be analyzed.

I picked up a KJW early this year as it is the same size as the Glock 19 I often carry. I have been impressed with the first 600 rounds. The gun fits perfectly into any Glock holster, and it is reasonably weighted with only about 7 oz difference from the real 19. It has an excellent, solid feel with the metal slide.

I have been using green gas for some years with other airsoft and so I wanted to stay with this system instead of moving to CO2.

The valves at the magazine don't leak at all when filling, and in this regard are better than my WA magazines, for which a glove is necessary to avoid unintended cryosurgery from the occasional drip. The gun came very well lubricated, and has worked every time. The slide locks back when empty, which again my WA guns do not always do.

Generous spraying of the magazines with food grade silicone keeps them working great.

I think it is good to consider the expense, as I have destroyed two nice WA guns in fof so far. If you aren't going to be wrestling with tough guys, the nicer guns will probably last.

Don't forget safety gear and some padding. I was shot in the hand by a banker and that really hurt! I wear lightly padded gloves now.

  12. Zombie, thanks for bringing me back to those good old days. It was simpler then. Gosh, people could just decide if the price was reasonable for their purposes, and the market was there. Considering the cost of skeet rounds over the past 4 years has totalled more than four times the cost of my Tromix, I never thought that the cost of one or two of these was prohibitive.

Yet, even at prices that some believed excessive, K-var doesn't seem to be able to get any more and Oleg has taken them off his site. Promises of a domestic source have never materialized, and next year at this time I suspect the situation will be the same.

  13. JT Engineering, I think you have an excellent point with your analysis. My understanding was to install the replacement rod so that the length matched the length of the broken rod. I did not consider that the rod should be bottomed out or this area filled in, but this sounds like excellent advice for anyone replacing a broken rod.

It would be interesting to know how often this happens, but as Pauly indicates, there is a lot of variability in the production of carriers as well as rods. Aside from ultrasound or industrial x rays, there is probably no way to tell if there is a space between the end of the threaded rod and the carrier.
