  1. the surplus Galil mags do not work reliably with all Saigas. they seem to work best with the "slabside" models that lack magwell dimples.

the Tapco Galil mags generally work 100% with all models.

I have found this to be the case. On mine (has magwell dimples) I had no reliability problems with steel Galil mags w/o a bullet guide, but once I installed it I was having problems. They need to be modified to allow them to sit up higher to feed right into the chamber.

  2. On my S308 I am currently using a Gen 5 UTG mount (came with the gun) and a Vortex 3x9 scope. I had previously used a Weaver 2-7 scope and had the same problem. There wasn't enough rail space to move the optic far enough forward. It worked fine, but the scope was gently hitting my safety glasses when I fired from the prone position. If possible I'd like to mount it a little farther forward so that doesn't happen. Other than the TWS (and similar) options, is there one that offers more rail space?

I think the MI one does, but it's $100. Are there other options for less?

  3. So the fact that the 5.56/223 bullet is bigger than a 5.45 isn't an issue I take it then?

I don't know of anyone in the US that makes a 5.45 suppressor. Besides, the two are close enough that suppressors for either would be interchangeable.

I was referring to muzzle devices (for example the AK-74 brake). I should have been more clear.

  4. Has anyone fired a Saiga 223 with a suppressor? I read a different thread discussing using a vented gas tube due to the extra gas pressure that happens as a result of using a suppressor. What about vented gas blocks? My tube isn't vented, but my gas block is. I think this was a later modification that was made to the AK design, but I'm not sure.

On another note, what seems to be the go-to brake/hider for the 223?
