the surplus Galil mags do not work reliably with all Saigas. they seem to work best with the "slabside" models that lack magwell dimples.
the Tapco Galil mags generally work 100% with all models.
I have found this to be the case. On mine (has magwell dimples) I had no reliability problems with steel Galil mags w/o a bullet guide, but once I installed it I was having problems. They need to be modified to allow them to sit up higher to feed right into the chamber.

I have the die, but the thread alignment tool is for a .223 barrel. I bet it could be made to work by wrapping tape around the diameter to make it fit in the barrel correctly. If you're interested in doing that route, let me know and I'll let you rent it for cheap.

PM sent about the modified mags...

I'll take those ladder rails

I read somewhere on the interwebz (can't remember where) of someone else trying this and using a Kel-Tec SU-16 sight. You can purchase one from them directly.

I'll take #5 Magpul DVD

I bought a UTG one that has served me real well. Seemed about the same as a Harris to me.

Sorry to revive the thread, but those with the Polish mags (clear and/or black) do they have metal locking lugs and reinforcement along the spines?

You withdrew the ammo?

Where are you located?

I'll do a direct trade with you. PM me for details.

I have a nightbrake. I had nothing to compare it against and did a fairly good job at flash hiding at the range.

I'll take the Tapco handguard.

Did you have to turn your barrel down to thread it to 1/2x28? What was your barrel diameter to begin with?

I'll take the die and TAT

I have a Promag 25 round mag that I haven't had any problems with. I have had problems with their S12 mags, though.

On my S308 I am currently using a Gen 5 UTG mount (came with the gun) and a Vortex 3x9 scope. I had previously used a Weaver 2-7 scope and had the same problem. There wasn't enough rail space to move the optic far enough forward. It worked fine, but the scope was gently hitting my safety glasses when I fired from the prone position. If possible I'd like to mount it a little farther forward so that doesn't happen. Other than the TWS (and similar) options, is there one that offers more rail space?
I think the MI one does, but it's $100. Are there other options for less?

Neither my gas block or tube are vented. my gun runs great.
You've ran a suppressor on yours?

So the fact that the 5.56/223 bullet is bigger than a 5.45 isn't an issue I take it then?
I don't know of anyone in the US that makes a 5.45 suppressor. Besides, the two are close enough that suppressors for either would be interchangeable.
I was referring to muzzle devices (for example the AK-74 brake). I should have been more clear.

I tried them in my gun. Work fine. Nice and light. I do think that the real Galil mags are quite a bit tougher. Being made of steel and all....

Has anyone fired a Saiga 223 with a suppressor? I read a different thread discussing using a vented gas tube due to the extra gas pressure that happens as a result of using a suppressor. What about vented gas blocks? My tube isn't vented, but my gas block is. I think this was a later modification that was made to the AK design, but I'm not sure.
On another note, what seems to be the go-to brake/hider for the 223?

What are you looking for in trade? If it's brass in other calibers, I have that. PM for more info.
