  1. Their employees are idiots and seem to be mostly antis. The policy is you cant sell 'Assault Weapon' parts, but they are ignorant, so that boils down to anything listed with a descriptor that references anything full-auto or that some Anti called an assault weapon somewhere.

Frex, if you list an AR15 part, like a BCG, as an "M16 bolt carrier group" they will pull it, because (according to them) M16s are assault weapons and illegal everywhere. You can sometimes get away with a descriptor like "M16 style" but the safest way is "AR15 BCG". Some people list AR parts as 'airsoft' to get away with it, but thats tricky to buy because some companies like Magpul sell legitimate airsoft parts too. But if you see something like 'airsoft use Aimpoint' for $400, its probably someone spoofing the Ebay censors.

Likewise, you may want to try "Dragunov style stock" but theres still a chance they pull it. The whole organization is pretty much anti, so if you complain they usually ignore it or kick you.

  2. Dont hesitate. Its your dream house, get it while you can.

As far as renting, I have heard many horror stories and a very few good stories. The difference is, the horror stories can always be traced back to some fault in the landlord. My dad has been renting for decades, in a state with the most protections for renters, and has never been burned. First, he uses a screening company to find renters. They take one months rent for fee, do a criminal and credit check, income check and call references. He has never had a deadbeat renter. He has had a few bad-credit renters, but they offered him the last 6 months rent up front and paid the rest on time.

On the rare occasion he has had slight issues, he sticks very closely to the law and his contract. If its not paid on time, they owe the contractual fee, no excuses. If they are getting behind, he is sending certified letters every week, and filing to evict on day 30. In my dads case, the renters get the immediate impression that they WILL be kicked out FAST if they dont pay, but theres no animosity. Those instances have been resolved quickly and many go on to be good renters for years. Be a nice guy, but make it clear that business is business, you have to protect yourself. By living close, you can also keep a close eye on how they are upkeeping the place.

Other family, they have the horror stories. Usually because they dont adhere to the law and dont have proof that they were notifying renters (certified letters with copies) when required by law. When, if, it eventually goes to court, the judges tear them a new a-hole for being laissez-faire in matters that will deeply affect a poor family. Thats when the landlord needs to get expensive lawyers, and basically start the whole process over again. Alot of times its unsalvageable, because of a badly written initial contract that leaves a lot of loopholes.

Its a little work, especially initially, and you dont often make money in the short term. But if you get a screening agency, write a solid contract, know your laws and stick to them closely, you can do amazingly well. Properties are great losses on paper. You can go years without making an profit on paper, while slowly growing your net worth. My relatives that stuck with it have basically stopped buying properties. They figure they have so much worth now, why bother with more? Going on vacations for 6 months out of the year and buying 5-series BMWs is enough. What more do they need, a 7-series? Another 45 day alaskan cruise?

EDIT: My family is also in Illinois. The laws here arent that bad, the protections usually work both ways. Having a higher-end rental that is priced slightly higher is a great way to week out deadbeats too.

  3. Mildly corrosive primer, extremely consistent loads. This is great ammo if you know how to clean a rifle.

My dad knows how to clean, he just doesnt often. Hes used to cleaning them maybe once a year. I told him that stuff light be corrosive last year when we went shooting, he asked me today if maybe he should clean his Vepr.

I think im gonna have to go over there and clean the shit out for him. He still cant disassemble his AKs. Hell of a shot though, outshoots everyone on the range, got some Navy marksman badge about 40 years ago.

I hear ya on the kids, same situ here, kids running all over and nosy neighbors so I leave it in the trunk until after kids are in bed. On top of it after a half-day of shooting the wife wants family time, not me spending the rest of the day cleaning and leaving gun parts all over the house.

  4. A year since I posted here, and I still cant find cheap plinking ammo. sad.png

I love my 16" but it basically sits in my closet while I take out my AKs. Remington has been promising cheap ammo, but it's yet to arrive. This round is developing the opposite problem as 7.62x39, amazing defense rounds but no cheap target ammo.

Now if Wolf gets on board, like they did with 6.8, we'll be in the money.

I kinda want to ditch it, but then I see the ballistics out of short barrels and fall in love all over again. I need to build a pistol next, or maybe even SBR it.

  5. Please. Magpul AR mags are great for what they are, $8 polymer mostly-reliable magazines. But they arent the best, or amazing, just merely decent. They are jam-o-matics in my, and others, 300BLK rifles. Their 20-round mags continue to have serious problems, after years of feedback and development. Meanwhile, Lancer and others are putting out lightweight, reliable, steel-lipped polymer mags that have a fraction of Magpuls issues.

But Magpul is in the polymer business. If they have servicemen in mind, it is as a customer base. They recently leveraged their market power to create a completely new accesory-mounting system that benefits only, wait for it, polymer handguard manufacturers. And the fanboys lap it up.

  6. I suspect Magpul will kill the steel-lined ones because of bad sales on the all-polymer mags, then these too will fade away.

We really didnt need more breakable polymer mags, the Tapco slab sides are great for that already and cheaper. Now steel-lined polymer mags, THATS a hole in the market right now.

Magpul doesnt seem to understand that AK guys choose the AK because the primary #1 important thing to them is durability.

  7. I took the Saiga 'M' out to the range last weekend, after installing my Canis adapter and Bravo B5 stock, Hogue grip, and changed the wood for used ebay polymer handguard. Everything operated fine, but accuracy was seriously degraded.

The last 3-4 times out, with the wood furniture, my Saiga M was shooting rings around my dads Vepr. We used identical Weaver 2-10x54 scopes. Extremely tight groups, using Golden Tiger, I was getting just under MOA on 5-shot groups while my dads Vepr was getting just over MOA. This time out, we were using Wolf, with iron sights, but the Vepr was still getting around 2-3MOA while my Saiga M was more like 6-7MOA. My dad and I swapped rifles, same thing, hes a better shot than me but both of our patterns were obviously better with the Vepr.

Is it possible the new polymer handguard is pressing on the barrel once it heats up? Or just different rifles reacting differently to different ammo?

  8. Im seem to be stuck with the long polymer handguard on my Saiga-M, and im OK with that, I like the room for various grips. Id like to reduce the weight and improve the look though, so I would like to add the 4 cooling slots to the top portion of the handguard. Has anyone done a tutorial? Does anyone do this for $?

  9.

Grabbed a pack of 8 translucent smoke Lancer AWM Mags for $64.

    Where?

Source, please: got to get me some.

Botach had them, packs of 8 labelled "off color" for $64 shipped. It took a week for them to come in, but when they did I couldnt tell a difference in color. Looks like they are sold out, but set up for backorders.

2 months back I did a test order with Botach for 3 clear Lancer mags for $12 each. That went about the same, took maybe a week and a half to get the order, but it showed up well packed. I know people have had issues with Botach, but it seems they may have sorted most of them out.
