  1. There are alot of people on that 65 person list I would love to see in the administration, dunno if they are right as president.

Every pundit says Christie has a chance, but I for one will NEVER vote for him after he got Obama re-elected.

Ben Carson is a great pick. I worry that Obama may have ruined it for black presidents for a generation though.

Overall, i'd be happy with a Paul/Carson run. However, this election cant be about who we want. The Dems have such a foothold at all levels, and such a HUGE ignorant voting base, at this point we need to push forward whoever will win. Not the most 'republican' candidate that the primaries always push, we need someone who will win the moderates and not rile up the Dem voters. Let ANY republican win, make political changes, put in a few Justices, fix immigration, and this country at least has a shot. The next president will pick 2-4 Justices, and determine where the vast mexican socialist hordes end up, and THAT will fundamentally change this country more than anyone else in modern history.

As long as its not Christie.

  2. It doesnt mean anything. Makes a nice 2A headline, but the stats are worthless.

First, we dont have CCW in the city, in effect. CCW is banned from public transport and every single venue anyone would want to visit. Essentially, you can only carry if you drive everywhere and just walk on the streets. As long as those streets dont have any sort of event going on, anything that requires a permit, and in Chicago EVERYTHING requires a permit. We just passed a law requiring kids lemonade stand licensing for cripes sake. There is simply NO WAY that CCW is having ANY effect at the street level in the city. In fact, I would suspect the opposite, as the wide swaths of prohibited places make Chicago more of a 'safe haven' for gang crime than the near suburbs. I would expect crime to start moving from the suburbs, where criminals could run across a middle-class CCW holder, into the city proper, where the odds of that are greatly diminished.

Second, the stats used are literally useless. EVERY city that has adopted compstat (or similar) has experienced widespread illegal manipulation of the statistics to meet whatever goals the Supervisors/mayor has decreed. People take the fall, but the leadership stays the same, and the manipulation continues. There are examples of this in 'The Wire' that are very true to life. A real-world example: cops here found a naked, gagged woman in an abandoned warehouse tied to a chair with wire, apparently tortured to death. It was filed as a death investigation, NOT murder. Every day, if you read between the lines, you can find felonies like Assault with Deadly changed to simple misdemeanor Assault, or similar crime downgrades. To say nothing of the crimes that are never even filed.

And honestly, its way too early to make these connections. We just got CCW in January, they took the full 90 days to process the first aps, and the bulk of applicants have been waiting a bit anyway to see how it shook out. We probably wont be able to draw conclusions for at least another year, and dont expect any effect on the city until a year after we get CCW on public transport made legal.

  3. I have to confess that I'm curious just how bad an AK mag has to get before its actually considered "rusty and broken"...

Ive seen some excellent condition mags that got a small dent in the wrong spot, and from then on the follower would hang up a little.

The SGammo sorters may have been told to simply separate any dented mags as 'broken' since actually checking for function would waste time, and still not be 100%

  4. I see lots of people involved starting to die from accidental deaths. . .

You should know the Chicago way doesnt even need to go that far.

    "F--- you. Make me."

repeat adnauseum until opponent goes away, or brings force. Then respond with their own force, in this case the Justice department and their MRAPs, SWAT teams, etc.

Chicago politicians know that virtually noone has the determination to actually do anything about their blatant lies and corruption.

The rest of the country still doesnt even begin to understand.

  5. Get rid of your TV. We got rid of ours 7 years ago for Netflix (and now Amazon), and the ONLY thing I miss is the most current season of Game of Thrones. But we save so much $$ I just buy the blu-rays and still make out better. When we visit family, the News is ridiculous and the kids are confused by commercials. We watch what we want when we want it, and for the kids, everything is curated by us. No crappy shows or accidentally turning on something we dont want them to see.

For national news, there are a variety of websites out there, many without the liberal slant that pervades television. When you want a break, just dont log in for a few days, I guarantee the world will go on spinning. The really important local news gets posted to my local Police, Fire Department, and State Representatives Facebook pages anyway. All I miss from TV news is fluff pieces and overblown crime stories designed to shock you into thinking the world is much less safe that it is.

  6. I guess every union is different too though. I just joined one, and I don't think I'll stay in it forever, but I'll be taught what I need to know in my trade. I see some here have said it near impossible to fire a union employee and that might be true, but the company I work for will hand you your walking papers in a second. Our HR manager keeps records of all employees, and if the hall tries to send a shitty worker according to her records she says no and asks for a different one.

My uncle-in-law runs a carpenter crew, and ive seen the same thing. The hall sends him guys all the time for short-term jobs, and everyone ive seen has busted their ass. Some bust it less then others: they speed-walk the lumber from one end of the building to the other, instead of jogging it. By lunch my uncle is having a talk with them, and if they dont pick it up, by end of shift they are gone and the hall sends someone else.

NO WAY a non-union boss could get away with that. I guarantee the company he works for is getting every penny's worth. His crew probably does the work of twice as many 'regular guys', every single day. He also gets as much vacation time as he wants: he simply doesnt get paid for days he doesnt work.

  7. Those that bash unions ( not darth, I understand that he only posted a link to an article) I've found are as well educated on unions as liberals are on guns.

Have to agree with this. Wife is a teacher, and when discussions come up, people universally blame teachers for what lies at the feet of non-union administration.

The development of unions IS part of the free market.

Unions focus on safety was the free market response to unsafe conditions. Government regulation of safety is the socialist response, and more expensive to implement. Free men should determine what they are willing to risk, and for what wage.

Unions save a company money through the grievance process. Unions give managers more options to address a problem employee than the expensive hire-and-fire roulette.

Unions cause wages to rise for all, including non-union jobs.

Where they have fallen down is the quality control. The union label used to mean something, but like every other product in america (union or otherwise) they have abandoned that and leveraged their reputation for short term profits.

The biggest problem is in states like Illinois, where union participation is mandatory. Return all states to a 'right to work' situation and unions will shrink. But then Unions will be forced to compete in the market: give value for the chunk they take out of our paycheck every week.

  8. Progressive through USAA. I have a 2007 Ninja 650, $3000 UJM that looks like a sport bike. Everyone else wanted me to pay sport bike rates. Would have cost me more to pay insurance than the bike was worth. Guess they assume if a 600cc is killer fast, a 650 must be faster? Progressive was reasonable, maybe they have a better system for determining risky bikes.

Ive heard a couple companies run rates off straight CC's, which screws cruisers because they need 3x the CC's to develop similar power to a modern bike. Really, just call around for rates, every company seems to have a different attitude towards bikes.
