  1. I have a saiga 7.62 and a AR 5.56 and love them both. They have both never malfunctioned. I usually clean them both every 300 to 500 rnds so I can't say which of mine is the most reliable. The AR gets a bad rap as a "maintenance whore" and I think its not true. Swat magazine recently finished a test where they fired 32,000 rnds through a Bravo Company AR with no malfunctions. They never cleaned the gun. They just lubed it with Slip 2000 EWL whenever they tested it. I love my AK and would trust my life with it. But I think this and other recent test prove the newer AR's (not the vietnam era ones) are pretty tough as well. I will admit though that if I was put into a situation with no cleaning kit or lube I would rather have my AK. I cant say which of these platforms is best in the USA. But I would stock up on ammo and mags for whatever you have NOW.

  2. I've had a Glock 21sf for 2years now it is very reliable but accuracy is another story. It is the most inaccurate pistol I've ever owned. I've shot everything from Blazer brass to Corbon in it and a 10in group at 20 yards is about it. I've installed the ghost 3.5lb trigger to try to help and it is no different.I've been shooting handguns for 25 years and my 1911,XD and Glock23 are all accurate so I don't see how it could be me. Anyone else using this gun or have any ideas on what might help. If the shtf I would never worry about reliability with this gun but I a firm beleiver in the saying "accuracy kills".

  3. The 7.62x39 doesn't have nearly the high intensive recoil that people like to assume it does (at least for the semi-autos). Does it recoil more than 223? Yeah, but we aren't talking shotgun type recoil here. I've got a pad, without it, the only thing I notice is a shorter stock with less grip on the end.

To check if it will effect the reliability, see how far your bolt pulls back with the recoil buffer installed. If it clears the ejection slot in the dust cover before hitting buffer, you should be fine. I originally bought one for my 7.62x39, and moved it over to my S-12. I figured that would be the one that I should have more of a concern with receiver wear and tear if I forget to change the gas settings. If you like the buffer, it won't cause much noticeable damage, if any at all, to your gun. Some say that it'll crack the receiver though I've never seen that effect reported , but why take the risk if you don't have over-gassing issue?

Oh, and the S-12 does have an ACE stock as well. I loctited mine and tightened them pretty snug with no issues even before the buffer was installed. Hope the loctite holds up well man!

Took my rifle out today. Fired 100rds. Checked the bolts after the first 60 and they were still tight. Fired the last forty and checked them again. And they were still very tight. Looks like its good to go now! I was just curious. How can I tell if my rifle is overgassed? And if it is will it hurt anything?

Thanks for the feedback on this. Hopefully the loctite will put this to bed.

  5. I have an ACE fixed skeleton stock on my saiga 7.62. I love the stock but after firing about 200 rds the 2 allen bolts that hold the stock to the receiver were so loose that when I picked the gun up by the pistol grip after coming home from the range the butt stock came off and the rest of the gun was still laying in the case. I know now that I should have put loctite on the 2 bolts when I first bought the stock and put it on but I did get them very tight and honestly I didn't realize the bolt was hitting the rear of the receiver that hard. Also the instructions that came from ACE said nothing about using it. I put blue loctite on the bolts when I put it back together and I also installed the Blackjack recoil buffer. I haven't fired the gun yet. What I'm asking is is this type of recoil normal? Will the loctite be enough? And does the recoil buffer affect reliability? I have fired 700 to 800 rds through this gun and have never had any malfunction whatsoever and for what I bought this gun for reliability is the most important thing for me.

You don't need the recoil buffer unless your gun is over-gassed. It won't reduce recoil, only prevent the bolt carrier from hitting the rear truncheon of your receiver if it's over gassed thus reducing wear and tear. A normal ak design doesn't make any (or at least very little) contact with the reciever. It shouldn't affect recoil or reliability in any case. Loctite should be enough to keep the screws in place.

I'm going to shoot it tomorrow and see how it does. I'll probably shoot a couple of mags and check the bolts. I'm not really feeling any recoil on my shoulder with the 1 in. recoil pad on the stock I just thought I would try the blackjack buffer to keep the bolt from pounding the back of the receiver. If the loctite does the job I'll just keep using it without the buffer. I had read that the buffer could affect reliability in some guns. My gun is 100% reliable and I don't want to change that.

  6. I've taken to carrying my G-17 lately, but I never carry or keep it around with a round chambered; just with the magazine full. I'm somewhat afraid---or extremely paranoid---that the thing will have an AD. And yes, I have seen the video of the ATF guy who had a Glock go off, and I think it negatively affected me.

Am I crazy, or do I have a valid concern?

I'm planning on getting the gun fully checked out by a gunsmith for integrity, pretty much to ease my fears.

I have 2 glocks the 21SF and the 23. I carry both with a round in the chamber and feel safe that way. I've seen the ATF video too but also there are thousands of officers and civilians that carry them everday with no problems. I have holstered and unholstered my glocks many times and never have any reason to put my finger on the trigger while doing it. When we carry a gun we need to be careful with every thing we do with it and not be careless with any aspect of using them. Alot of people avoid glocks because there is no external safety but at the same time would feel safe carrying a double action revolver. If you pull the trigger on a loaded double action revolver it goes bang but people for the most part feel they are safe to carry loaded. I think people think of a glock the same way they do a cocked single action pistol and if they touch the trigger it will go off. A glock firing mechanism is similar to the double action revolver when you pull the trigger the striker moves back to a breaking point then releases moving forward to fire the cartridge. It takes some effort to do this.s Like pulling the trigger on the revolver the hammer moves back to a point then releases to fire the cartridge. Based on the trigger pull of my 2 glocks I don't see how the triggere could be pulled accidently by holstering them or picking them up or whatever but both of mine are factory 5.5lb triggers so I can only base this on my glocks. After seeing the video you mentioned and another with I think a DEA agent whose glock went off while holstering I was hesitant to get one. But after learning how they actually work I think they are safe to carry with a round in the chamber and I think you will be ok to do the same. If your trigger has the factory 5.5lb pull and you don't pull it until you are ready to shot it you will be good to go.

  8. I just recently got my Carry permit and am planning on carrying my Kahr P-45 XD Compact 45 and Ruger Police service six.

I would like to run the same sights on all..i was just trying to get some feed back from some folks that carry and run nights sights...contrast? no contrast? Fiber optic tritium combo? and if contrast what colors have you found to work the best? thank you for helping me out with this guys

I have factory night sights on my glock23. I'm not sure who makes them but they work really well. I have meprolight night sghts on my glock21sf that a glock armorer installed for me and I really like them as well. They both have green dots in front and back and that works for me. I also like the look of the xs ghost ring sights but I have never used them.

  9. i really like glocks, and much prefer them factory stock rather than highly modded.

They are generally large and the only safety is in in the trigger--have noted several buys blowing off their own kneecaps because the finger was on the trigger while holstering it, and should not have been.

I here this alot from people that don't know that much about glocks and how they work. It is a striker fired pistol it does not work like a pistol with a firing pin. Look at it like a double action revolver. If it is loaded and you pull the trigger it will fire. But most people that say glocks aren't safe would not hesitate to carry a double action revolver and would feel safe with it. A glock carried in the proper holster is as safe as any other handgun. If you just don't like them thats fine your entitled to your opinion but the stories by the glock haters about alot of people shooting themselves with them are ridiculous. As with any gun keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to fire! My carry gun is a glock23 or somtimes mainly in colder weather when I'm wearing a jacket a Glock21SF.

  10. New guy here...what kind of magazines can I use on my Saiga 7.62x3,9 if I decided not to install a bullet guide? Thx

If doesn't have a bullet guide go with the surefire mags. They are the best for the stock saiga in any caliber including the shotguns. My buddy got a "good deal" on 3 promags at the gun show and 1 of them works reliably and the other 2 are junk.

  11. A note to my fellow board members who are AK "elitists"

While I have restored a few Saigas (MY CURRENT IS A K-VAR PLUM AK103 WITH 24MM FSB), my first was a .223 that I used the T-6 with grip on. It worked excellent with Surefire Magazines. Many folks on this forum are guilty of "Saiga-real-AK-looking-snob-itus." Many people, however, do not feel inclined to go through the expense and effort to restore it. That is OK. If you have owned a pistol grip AK, it will not balance the same. If you never have fired a pistol grip AK, however, you may not notice any difference. In fact, I personally think the stock saiga with sporter stock has a nice feel to it, too.

Lighten up gods of the AK, it is OK for people to use a T6! They are not fighting Cuban paratrooper or zombie hoards. Cut them some slack.....

I agree! While I like this forum and have learned some good info here. I've also seen the attitude on alot of post that if your gun is not converted you are not worthy. Did we all by a piece of shit and spend a few bucks moving some parts around to then have a supreme rifle (real russian ak). I don't think so. My saiga 7.62 came right out of the box with as good a trigger as any "real ak" that I have fired and I have fired several. You can also modify a saiga to have enough u.s. parts to use high cap mags without doing a full conversion. And if the shtf I'll bet they will perform as well as the "real russian ak". A converted rifle can use cheaper mags and will probably feel a little more balanced those are the only real advantages I've seen. If your gun is converted and you like it great! If its not converted and modified the way you like that's great too. Just make sure your parts count is right if using high cap mags. To each his own! Us gun guys need to stick together and if someone elses gun is not the way you like it let it be. You don't have to shoot it.

  12. Anybody know where I can find the Phantom Flash Hider that Clips on to the front sight of the saiga 7.62 rifle. I have been checking the status of it on CSS web sight and a couple of others for a year now and it is always out of stock. It is made by DPH and is supposed to be very good but I cant't find one anywhere.

  13. Nalioth pretty much nailed it. If you're having your trunnion beat up by the carrier, a buffer won't help for too long. Like several folks, I've tried them. In the shotguns, they tend to short cycle the action though. Rifles are a bit more forgiving of buffers, but if working properly, the trunnion shouldn't be getting beat up.

I bought a Blackjack buffer but haven't put it in yet. I mainly got it to increase the longevity of the rifle cause I don't have much recoil on my 7.62x39. I'm kinda new to the saiga and the ak in general. How can I tell if the carrier is hitting the trunion.

  14. Hey guys i wanna convert my saiga but im not confident enough to move the trigger group so i wanna buy a stock from MAA and just bolt it on, it has to be fixed since i live in jersey. I was looking at the Tromix skeleton stock and the MAA fixed skeleton stock, does anyone have any experience as to which of these is better? also any other stocks you think would be good, remember they need to be fixed, thanks

I just got the ACE 7.5in fixed skeleton stock for my factory saiga from MAA last week. Took it to the range today and I love it. The rifle is very balanced and has a good feel with this stock. It is very well made and easy to install. It has the SAW style grip,is aluminum instead of plastic and has a .5in recoil pad. It is available in three different lengths and you can also get it with a 1in recoil pad or ERGO grip if you don't like the SAW. If your looking for a fixed skeleton stock for a factory saiga I highly recommend this one. Also once I ordered it from MAA it was at my house in 3 days which was very fast compared to the company I ordered my forend grip from.
  15. I have a UTG 978 it's rock solid and has held it's zero when taken off and reinstalled. And at about $35US it's a deal.

    SGL-20WithRussianNavySlingfromSovie.jpg

Yea thats the same one I have I couldnt remember the model # . What type of scope is that you have? I like the leapers but I'm thinking about upgrading in the future and I like the short compact scopes like yours and the leapers.

  16. hows it going everyone iv been looking at optic mouts and tryen to find one to buy fo a good price. Iv done some reserch on here and found a couple diffrent ones.

BP-o2 and also the one at the K var site, but its hella expensive can anyone tell me why ive seen a couple that looks the same for half the price also if thers any recommendations that would be sick (not a fan of the UTG one, the loweer the better)

    so thanks guys

I have the UTG guick release mount with the leapers red/green dot scope. The mount is made in china but it is well made and is rock solid when mounted on the rifle. It is low on the receiver and holds zero well after about 400 to 500 rounds and after being taken on and off. So far so good!

  17. You shouldn't need a recoil buffer. The bolt doesn't always slam clear to the rear of the receiver making contact with the rear trunnion, but with a recoil buffer you're almost ensuring that it will hit the buffer and transfer that force to your rear trunnion every time you fire it, actually causing MORE wear than you would get without one. I would only use a buffer if your bolt is sticking, which it shouldn't be. If your bolt is slamming into the rear trunnion I would replace the spring rather than adding a buffer...

    Just my .02

The bolt has never stuck. The gun has ran flawless never a problem of any kind. I'm not sure if the bolt is slamming into the rear trunion or not. The rifle has very little recoil though. Maybe I don't need the buffer. This is my first AK and maybe its normal to not have much recoil I don't know. I ended up getting a ACE 7.5in stock with SAW grip installed it today and I love it. I appreciate your reply on the recoil buffer. I don't know that much about AK's and thats the kind of feedback I'm looking for.
