  1. I'm thinking of going with an Ace folder too. I hope you dont mind if I throw in a related question on your thread.

As far as the internal receiver blocks go there is an Ace and a DPH one. The DPH straightens the angle of the stock I beleive. Correct me if I'm wrong but the AKs original design has a bit of a downward angle to the stock. Does the new angle of a DPH reciever block effect any kind of function? I have a 4x posp, would it make the scope too low? or is the difference negligible? I prefer the look of the straight line stocks.

    Thanks

    *edit*

Or do both blocks change the angle?

They both look pretty straight in the pics of them I've seen of them on rifles. I also have wandered about the angle because I have a red/green dot scope on a side mount picatinny rail and I want to make sure it lines up with my scope.

  2. This probably sounds like a stupid question but can I install a bullet guide in my saiga 7.62x39 rifle to use the cheaper AK mags without changing anything else. I'm happy with the trigger pull on my rifle as well as the trigger position. I already have a US made tri rail forend and I will soon have a US made buttstock. After that I'll be happy with my setup other than having to pay 40.00 for the surefire mags. Also if I do go with a bullet guide can I still use the surefire mags? I have 4 of them and would hate to have 160.00 in mags and not be able to use them.

  3. They are great!

Yea That looks just like the one I'll get if I go with the ACE except that my gun is not converted. If I can install a bullet guide to use cheaper ak mags I would like to do that. At this point I'm happy with the trigger the way it is. Is your stock a folder?

  4. If you are talking about simply adding a t-6 stock, you would be in compliance with 922® if you no longer have a factory pg and buttstock..if you kept a pg you would need a us made one..but as others have said do the fcg move and convert it then add all the aftermarket goodies you want...keep most of them usa and you will be golden. Plus help the American economy. :dollar:

I am considering doing the conversion. I just really like the Saiga skeleton stock for me it's a perfect fit.Do you know if it is classified as 1 foreign part or 2?

  5. Basically it's just going to open a whole can of 922r worms changing stocks. Just convert your rifle for real, better rifle in the end, and it barely costs more than the T6. A USA made buttstock/PG and internals and and no more worrying about where your handguard/mags came from. If you like the thumbhole there are many thumbhole stocks for AK's.

I currently have the US made surefire forend and I'm using surefire 30rnd mags. Some say the skeleton stock counts as 1 part and with the forend and mags I have I'm compliant. Then I 've also been told the skeleton stock counts as 2 parts putting me 1 part over the 10 part limit. Both sides have said their info comes from atf letters. I have thought about the conversion so I would'nt have to buy 40.00 dollar mags. If I went with the T6 stock would'nt I still be compliant.

  6. I'm thinking of changing from the saiga skeleton stock to the tapco t6 stock. I have the quick detach side mount on my rifle and a red/green dot scope. I wanted to see if anyone else had this setup and how well it does as far as eye to scope alignment. I would like to stick with the saiga skeleton stock because it works great with the cheekrest it has for using the scope but the more I look into whether or not it is considered a pistol grip to the atf and if it counts as 1 buttstock part or a pistol grip and a buttstock making it 2 parts the more confused I get. I seem to get different info on this every where I turn. I'm ready to buy an american made stock and just be done with it.

  7. Well based on your quiz I think the Saiga stock would be compliant. Do you know if the saiga skeleton stock is one part or two?

To be blunt: The Saiga skeleton stock counts as one part.

No part is "compliant" or "non-compliant", it's the combination they're used in that makes the rifle compliant or non-compliant.

Ok thanks for the answer. I understand that the combination of parts makes the rifle compliant or not. If the skeleton stock counts as 1 part then I have 10 foreign parts and 4 american on my gun making it compliant. My original concern was the stock counting as two parts making it not compliant. I had looked at putting the Tapco AR style stock on my rifle giving me one more american made part but would only do It if I had to. The Saiga skeleton stock works great for my rifle. I have a red/green dot scope on a quick detachable side mount and with this stock it is comfortable to shoot. The stock is well made, has a great feel and the rifle has very little recoil with it.

  8. The confusion arises because folks can't tell things apart, even when they're looking at them.

This is the Saiga skeleton stock:

    saiga-skeleton-stock.jpg

    shown on a Saiga:

    saiga-skeleton-rifle.jpg

Now here's a thumbhole for a standard Kalashnikov (or converted Saiga):

    ati-thumbhole-stock.png

    Shown on an AK:

    ati-thumbhole-rifle.jpg

Now here's where you should pay attention:

The revenuers have ruled that if the pistol grip doesn't attach to the rifle, it doesn't count as a 922r part.

Which one of these resembles that remark?

Well based on your quiz I think the Saiga stock would be compliant. Do you know if the saiga skeleton stock is one part or two?

  9. I posted this in the 922R compliance section but got little response. I have a Saiga 7.62x39 rifle I put a Surefire tri-rail forend on it and I use Surefire 30 round mags. It has the Saiga skeleton stock on it that came on the gun. I have read alot of conflicting info as far as compliance goes. I thought that the saiga rifle from the factory had 14 Russian parts and the american made forend and mags I'm using gave me 4 american parts and 10 russian parts making it compliant. But lately I've read that the skeleton stock counts as 2 parts and is considered a pistol grip. Is the rifle compliant or not?

  10. Mine started sticking and was very hard to release a full mag.

My XD does that too, but I've just been ignoring it since I don't usually eject full mags. I wonder what Glock did to fix yours.

They replaced the part and returned the bad one with the gun. The glock armorer that looked at mine and told me to send it back to glock also has a 21sf. He took his mag release out to compare it to mine and said his was made different than mine and had never stuck. His had more of a bend in the flat metal piece that pushes against the mag. I got my 21sf not long after they hit the market and he had just bought his a couple of months before he looked at mine. I have thought maybe they changed the design a little to cure the sticking problem but I don't know. I couldn't get anyone at glock to talk about it. They would only say it shouldn't stick and to send it in.

  11. the XD vs. glock argument is like ford vs. chevy...i'm sure Calvin pisses on both of them. it's not as good of an argument as 7.62 vs. 5.56. do they both have a V8 and auto transmission? they both have a trailer hitch and an ample truckbed? do they both run on the same fuel?

i've had a glock 21sf for a couple years and it fits my large hands like a glove. never handled the full-sized g21, but i'm under the impression that only Big Foot doesn't find the full-sized g21 a bit too big. i chose glock not as a range gun, but as a reliable full-sized defense .45 for the house or vehicle. for me, it fits the bill perfectly. the XD45 was also a great choice, but i opted to spend a few dollars more for the piece of mind of fewer parts to malfunction when the time is critical...and it runs like a champ. XD has a more visible "round indicator"...whoopie...any defense gun of mine is always loaded....thats how they are and that's how i treat them, so a more noticable round indicator means nothing to me. a shooting buddy has an XD that occasionally fails to feed with cheap target ammo...but that doesn't mean XDs are crap...his gun has always been 100% with quality loads.

the only significant difference i can see between the two is the trigger slack. the glock trigger pull is short but firm at the end, and the XD trigger is long and "too easy" up till the end. for defense guns, i still like a double action revolver-type trigger pull. kel-tec and ruger LCP do a pretty good job IMO. i guess it's really all preference. from what i understand, XD triggers are somewhat adjustable and glock trigger springs are drop in parts.

i don't have any complaints against the glock 21sf for it's intended use. i've considerd getting a short/light trigger spring just for the range, but decided that that would affect my muscle memory when i needed to use it for defense. if i want a target pistol, i will buy or build a target pistol.

Yea I like my 21SF except for the right side of the ambi mag release digging into my hand. Other than that it fits my hand well. Have you ever had any problem with the mag release sticking to one side or the other especially when releasing a loaded mag. Mine started sticking and was very hard to release a full mag. It would stick to one side and would not lock another mag in place until you pushed it back to the center. I called glock and they told me to send it to them that it should not be doing this. I sent it back and in 3 weeks I had it back and the release has worked fine since. The glock armorer that looked at it prior to me sending it in removed the mag release and said it was made a little different than the one in his 21SF. They put a new mag release in the gun and returned the bad one with the gun. I have read online about alot of people having this same problem.

  12. From my experience with 922r everyone has their own take on it. People(me included) when first looking at it tend to let it get alot more complicated than it needs to be. Simple, your rifle has to have 10 or less foreign parts. You can have all the american parts on it you want, but if it does not have 10 or less foreind parts its not compliant. So count the foreign countable parts and you get your answer.

I forgot to mention that my rifle came with the dragonov style saiga stock is this considered a pistol grip?

  13. The thing about XD's that sucks donkey balls in my opinion is that you have to press the grip safety to rack the slide.

If you are in a life or death situation and you have a misfire or are unchambered to begin with, you have to have two hands to operate it. If one is out of commission, so are you and your means of defense!

    Deal breaker for me!

BTW, when they were the Croatian HS2000, you couldn't give them away (prices were about $200 less than Glocks). But once Springfield put their name on it, it became the NRA gun of the year and now costs about $80 more than the Glock (ooh... but it comes with the free holsters).

Can you chamber a round in a glock using one hand while injured and under fire? And does the fact that it was cheaper than a glock when the ones imported to america were still called a HS2000 make it a bad choice for self defense. All the dealers I see and talk to sell all XD models about 50.00 less than the glocks.

  14. The more I read about 922R the less I understand it.Everyone I have talked to seems to have a different take on it. I wanted to ask the forum and get opinions from people who have converted their saiga rifles to make them compliant.I have a Saiga 7.62X39 rifle I use American made Surefire 30 round mags and I put a American made Surefire Tri-rail forend on it. The way I understand it I now have 10 russian parts and 4 american parts on the rifle. Am I compliant?

  15. XD's are almost completely unproven compared to Glocks. The only real reason to buy one if that you like to pretend that you know better then majority of pros in the world! The same kind of mentality that makes people go buy a Mac.

If you just like to play with it, no big deal either way. But if you are using it for self-defense, I would strongly suggest that you reconsider.

However, If being counter-culture is worth using an unproven firearm to defend yourself with, go for it! But rest assured, no one that knows anything about pistols will think that you are brilliant, just susceptible to marketing.

I agree with you for the most part. The XD is not as proven or time tested as the Glock. The popularity of handguns has grown alot over the past 10-12 years due to more states allowing concealed carry and the huge selection of quality handguns today. The glock pistol has proven to be reliable worldwide in all climates and applications. As far as reliability goes I think the glock is hard to beat. Thats why my concealed carry pistol is the Glock23. All brands of handguns are marketed heavely today. I subscribe to Combat Handguns and each month on the iside of the cover there is a glock ad . They advertise as much if not more than Springfield and if they didn't in todays market they probably wouldn't be as popular as they are. In 2003 Guns and Ammo magazine did a 10,000 round torture test on the XD9. They put it through all the same test as the Glock 17 test and it functioned perfectly after each on. Also in 2008 when XD45 was pretty new the army rangers did a 1000 round test on the tactical and the service model and it met all of their reqiurments with no problems. True the Glock is more proven but I don't think anyone carrying the XD for self-defense would be risking their life because the chose it over the glock. Agian I really like the glocks! The only reason I'm thinking of selling my 21SF is because the ambi safety digs into my right when I'm holding the gun. If I'm ever in a sitution where I have to use it to defend my life I am 100% confident it would do the job. And I am also 100% confident the XD45 would do the job based on the test reports done by the experts that are viewed as "brilliant" and the Army Rangers who are combat weapon experts and were not paid to say good things about the XD

  16. Hi Folks,

I managed to grab a UTG 5th gen QuikDetach mount for $18 shipped NIB off GB.

I was looking at the following red-dots for my 7.62x39 Saiga with 16" bbl:

    Barska, BSA, Truglo, Konus Sight Pro 7245 (40mm) /7244 (30mm) /7247 (20mm) variety, & Millet SP-2. All between $50-95 3-5 MOA size dot's.

If anyone knows of a good 'open-style' (aka halo) feel free to suggest also.

2x varieties may come into play depending on comments and suggestions from you folks.

I've been tossing about these options for 4 months and now I got bitten by the BUG again.

Which one should I go for?? Anyone with actual usage on Saiga's or AK variants with how well they have HELD-UP would be appreciated.

I have a Leapers Swatforce red/green dot on my saiga 7.62x39. Its on a aluminum quick detachable side mount. I zeroed it in very easily and the rifle is very accurate using it. 49.99 So far so good.

  17. i like everything about the gun. the price, the parts, the ergonomics, the price, the capacity, the grip, the price lol.

i've had it for a few months. put 150 rounds thru it so far, all steel case Wolf FMJ, no hiccups at all. i've got some aluminum Blazer FMJ and Remington JHP here, that i'm gonna be trying out the next warm day (both 230g).

i have no issues with the backstraps being loose on mine, cant comment on that. i like the grip but i wear gloves when shooting, had absolutely no issues holding on to it. i'm not sure what to think about "cheap grips" these are all polymer pistols arent they? (cheap plastic, cheap feel, or cheap looking?). they do what they are suppose to do, better so then the 70+yr old wood grips on a Browning Hi-Power i am familiar with.

this was my 1st pistol purchase i'm not gonna lie i aint no guru with pistols and i have no experience shooting the Glock or XD. i could very possibly like either of those better but i'm no hurry to find out. like my current G/F, i am content for now.

I just thought the grip on the one I looked at had a cheap feel compared to my glock and XD and the backstrap was loose. Just an observation nothing against the FN I know its a excellent gun.

  18. FNP45. just another 45 with more capacity then the ones above. less felt recoil then a 1911. decocker, comes with 3 14rd mags, interchangeable backstraps and is American made.

USG model has safety and decocker, fronts slide serrations. also available a shooters pack with holsters and 2-14's and 1 15rd mag

another option and a damn good one IMO

    http://www.fnhusa.com/le/news/PDF/FNP45gunsandammo0802.htm

I agree. I looked at it when I was checking out the different .45's. I'm not knocking your gun but it seemed like a very well made gun with a cheap grip on it. The replaceable backstraps seemed a little loose. Again I believe its just as good reliabilty wise as the glock or XD. All the test reports I've read have been good. How long have you had it? Have you shot it very much? Do you like the grip?

Lorie always wanted to purse carry a G19 but was hesitant due to Glock's safety features... Untill now!!!!

Our gun show Booth Neighbors have outdone themselves again! I introduce to you.. the SharkTac "Plaxico" Holster... (I don't know if that's the model name or not... but it should be!!!!)

I think people that are concerned about the glocks safety are thinking of them like a cocked single action pistol. I personally feel the Glock is no more dangerous to carry than a double action revolver. If you pull the trigger on a loaded double action revolver it goes bang but most people don't worry about them if they are not cocked. The glock is not cocked sitting in a purse or holster. Don't pull the trigger and it will be ok. If Plaxico would have pulled a J-frame revolver out of his pants by the trigger he probably would have got the same result. In his case you have a person who can buy a handgun but was not smart enough to carry it in a safe manner and we saw the results of this. Alot of people don't mind spending 600.00 bucks on a pistol but they don't want to put 50.00 bucks in a decent holster. There are alot of good holsters available as well as concealed carry purses. Find the one that suits your needs best and I feel carrying the glock will be safe for you. Just my opinion.

  20.

I was searching the internet for the glock 23 and came across this video. Anybody own one and had accuracy to this distance?

Yea I've seen the video too and its wild him making those hits at that distance with any pistol. I have a Glock 23 and I love it. Its light, good for carry and has little or no muzzle rise when shooting which helps with second shots. I'd highly recommend it to anyone.
