  1. Oh, sorry. I ment I was surprised that the bullet guides were not sold with the edge rounded down a tad. I understand that whole saiga sporter import thing. Im actually glad I had to restore the rifle myself, I had a blast to be honest. And I learned a lot more. Well I am going to round that edge off the guide a hair and take her to the range. Ugliest restoration you have ever seen by the way haha. I have the original furniture with an unfinished wooden PG. The mechanical parts of the conversion that matter though I did top notch. Its all aesthetics from here.
  2. Good enough for me. Thanks. I couldn't see any disadvantage to filing down the edge a bit either way. Actually surprised they are not sold modified this way.
  3. Just wonderding if you guys get a little bit of build up from the bullet casings on the edge of the guide (edge of guide that is facing/closest to the tip of incoming bullet). I drilled and tapped the guide perfectly, so I assume this is normal. Do some of you shave down the edge of the guide to make it a little more rounded instead of a sharp edge?
  4. Yeah, then if worst comes to worst and you cant get it just ship the spring to me and I will send it back tied. Good luck.
  5. Kvar sells the mag catch pins, as do some other vendors, but they are definitely a pain because they weight nothing and I got hit with 9$ shipping. Then take a ball peen hammer, slowly deform the edge of the pin facing you by striking it at angles, flip over and repeat deforming the other side. Just dont go too crazy with the hammer on one side before you get a chance to deform the other side of the pin a little bit too. I would not use a screw and nut personally, It would look kind of gangster, plus this is the right way. Just take your time, the mag catch pins are pretty malleable and would
  6. Okay I added some pics of an actual spring here from an old surplus catch. The spring is a bit rusted, but you get the idea. After doing this 3 times now it takes under 2 minutes. Insert the spring in the vice and allow the two legs of the spring to stick out just a hair above the vice. As you compress the vice slowly, maintain about 1/4th inch of spring leg sticking out of the top of the vice. You want to have a premade loop of wire wound up nice and taught with just a large enough loop to fit around both spring legs (which will be close together once the spring is compressed in the vi
  7. factory new mag catch that comes with the 7.62x39 rifle. (I know they sell surplus catches, But I am looking for a factory new saiga catch). Looking for Springs and pivot pins as well. Thanks.
  8. Im posting this here because I had originally asked all my questions regarding installing just a new mag catch (after I slaughtered mine with a file because I drank too much while doing it). I devised a method using a large vise and some insulated wire to tie the spring off. Inserted it, and cut the wire. Took about a minute and a half. Okay literally maybe 15min because It took a few minutes to come up with the plan. If anyone ever wants one in, I can go in depth or take some pics of the way I did it. Just wanted to throw this out there for anyone thinking/needing to do it. Obviously if you s
  9. Sorry, haha. I thought you were just bein an ass. pm sent.
  10. Note: sarcasm. Just wondering if anyone had anything they wished to trade or sell. I was not simply asking if it exists. Thanks. message sent vitamink
  11. Looking for wood furniture for my 7.62x39 saiga. Handguards pistol grip and buttstock. Thanks.
  12. I drank way too many beers before I shaved my mag catch down and want to replace it (its just kind of loose and it bothers me and the rest of the conversion went so well). So im feeling adventurous and want to replace it. Anyone use a specific surplus mag catch or have experience with a specific one IE Bulgarian, east german etc.. or are they all the same? (I know its a bitch, but I want to do it) as long as it will function nicely with the surplus mags. Just afraid when I mount the new surplus catch the original hole on the saiga (where the mag catch pin inserts through) will cause the catc
  13. to be honest, I was working on the conversion while drinking beer and all was going well. By the time I got to shaving down the mag catch I had a few too many and shaved it down at a strange angle. I ended up shaving down the front of the catch instead of the whole thing at an even rate. So now my mags lock in, but they are sort of loose. Just not happy with it. I cant imagine its that hard though (if im sober haha) to replace it. Why do you say you will experience even MORE mag wobble, wouldn't a surplus catch be ideal?
  14. On a x39 saiga If I replace the stock mag catch with a surplus one, will it be at the correct height etc for your standard combloc mags? I know the saiga mag catches are "taller". I just dont know if there is anything else I should know or If I will I run into any issues (aside the spring being a bitch)? Looking at it now, it seems like I can just punch the pin out, replace the catch (keeping the spring intact) and then reuse the pin if Im careful. Oh, and I know most just shave the stock saiga catch down, But Im interested in replacing it altogether.
