The only thing that sucks about lightweight ARs is that...unless your only goal is to plink and varmint..its money down the drain

Like I said...ARs with cheap internals pay the ultimate price for giving ARs bad names...honestly...I trust my life with both of my rifles
True statement. True statement. A quality bolt carrier and bolt mean everything. BCM, DD , PSA, and many others MPI test every single bolt and carrier they make and are bet your life dependable parts. It has been decided that quality of lower does not matter(someone has even made a lower out of wood and rifle functioned fine) as long as a quality lower parts(buffer, tube, and spring and trigger group) are used in conjunction with a quality bolt and carrier(see brands listed above)
Another reason why I have some serious love for my AR is I have stacks of parts and can completely rebuild it in a matter of minutes. Can't seem to find a spare bolt and carrier for my saiga
I think this says alot. You don't need to worry about all of the "internals" with an AK. I am not an AR hater. I have had and shot AR's. I like them. However, I feel the AK is a much more stable (as in less temperamental) and robust platform. I can also procure two to three (or more) AK's for the price of a top tier AR. Do the money math.
Also, there is a reason that the AK is the preferred weapon of terrorists and revolutionaries around the world.
Not true..you still have to worry about it...its a weapon...the internals of an AK is not made from super awesome steel...its still steel and steel gets stressed in an AK as well.
It is mostly used by terrorist and revolutionaries around the world because it is a weapon that is readily available to buy at a low cost.
I am a fan of both weapon systems...now being said that...if we ever get invaded by a foreign country, they will most likely posses an AK variant...therefore its good to have both systems

Lately, I've been thinking about putting together an AR with what I think are the proper specs for a 5.56x45 rifle; most importantly, an upper with a 1:7 twist 5.56-chambered, chrome-lined, 20", gov't profile barrel.
A CMMG upper with those specs on a custom-engraved, (with a very appropriate family symbol), Del-Ton lower would be one sweet rifle.
As much as I love AKs, I would like a proper AR, (as described above), as well.
All that said... if I see zombies on the lawn, I'm grabbing my SGL21, (over all my other firearms), and going to work.
Are you going to be shooting 70+ grain bullets out of that 20" 1-7 twist barrel? Just a suggestion...most of your ready available rounds are under 1-9 twist....1-7 if you shoot under 65grain rounds....might not be good for accuracy...just a little tid bit for ya

Yup and when it comes to these pointless debates I just laugh laugh laugh..because really a weapon is only as good as the one pulling the trigger. My AR and AK feeds anything from cheapy steel cased to expensive brass...

For those who favor the AR, this article is really (and, unfortunately) worth the read!
do YOU own an AR platform? Probably not so you have no reason to judge it. I own both so I know the pro's and con's of both...i've logged over 8000 rounds through both of them combine...neither has failed me and both have their purpose. Like I said...ARs with cheap internals pay the ultimate price for giving ARs bad names...honestly...I trust my life with both of my rifles

I have both so I have the best of both worlds....
To me here it goes:
AK: simple design, effective round sub 250yrds, easy up keep
AR: effective weight, superior accuracy, easier to handle
Now when it comes to reliability, my AR has been as reliable as my AK (i have over 5000rnds through my AR and never had an issue with original barrel and internals) rule of thumb, get a quality rifle no bushwackers or dpms crap. MOST IMPORTANT THING IN AN AR PLATFORM is your guts (bolt and bolt carrier, buffer spring and extractor spring replacement after 3000rnds) There is no need for fancy triggers, just get a good milspec trigger
Another quick tid bit...you will never ever ever use an AR platform to shoot over 150-200yrds if that in the real world urban environment we live in...all of my guns are designed with that in mind...just saying...be real
HERE IS THE KICKER OF ALL KICKERS...A PARTICULAR FIREARM IS ONLY GOOD AS THE OPERATOR BEHIND SO GUESS WHAT IF YOU SUCK AT SHOOTING, YOU WILL SUCK WITH EITHER RIFLE

I thought this would be the hardest thing (tapping and drilling trunnion)
It took literally 5 minutes start to finish....stupid fast. Everything fit perfect.
Tapping was easy.
Just want to post this to maybe boost someone's confidence who is on the fence on doing this. By far the best mod..clicking in a true AK mag=PRICELESS

I enjoy hunting..the right way...not bump firing into an animal or even make a remark like that would make me an irresponsible gun owner/hunter

-
For the fact that you also said it does not matter according to DEC that you bump fire into the ground or tree or an ANIMAL is actual proves that you have no idea about how to hunt properly and the DEC agent better not have said that..bump firing into an ANIMAL would be actually animal cruelty due to you not actually hunting the animal but would be doing it out of joy
So mah7974 you can honestly say that when your bump firing you can account for every single bullet hitting ground/tree or in your case an animal....URGGGGH im done ranting
Better yet...just get rid of your guns and stop messing with my 2nd amendment rights because you want to fool around with your weapons unsafely.
-
OK Let me make this as clear as sky.
YOU acknowledge the simple fact that you saw a sign that said "no target shooting" yet you still target shot at the ground and a tree
THAN he bump fired in a public HUNTING area THAT ALLOWS NO RIFLES
That bump fire probably got reported as automatic rifle fire in a public area
The police got the call that someone is firing full auto in a public hunting area (illegal)
SWAT gets call to respond and check
You have some people come out of woods with AK like weapons (if you can spot that they are not full auto rifles from 50-100 yrds away, than your a hero)
Police sees them or him with SUCH rifles...orders them to drop down there weapons
Investigation is done...no one is hurt no one is taken to jail no one got their weapons taken
TELL ME WHERE THE POLICE DID ANYTHING WRONG...sure they are deaf and the other is hard hearing...but it is obvious that there was communication done since they did not ride to downtown for an interpreter
THEY ARE THE ONES THAT BROKE THE LAW AND MESSED WITH YOUR 2ND AMENDMENT RIGHTS BY NOT KNOWING THE ORDINANCE...DO NOT BLAME THE POLICE FOR THIS AND SAY TO GO SUE THEM...
ALSO JUST BECAUSE YOU DID NOT SEE THE SIGN DOES NOT MEAN YOU ARE OFF THE HOOK..IT IS POSTED AND ITS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY AS A RESPONSIBLE CITIZEN TO KNOW..YOU GUYS ARE SO LUCKY NOT TO BE SITTING IN JAIL FOR THIS IT IS NOT EVEN FUNNY..AND YET YOU WANT TO SUE...SERIOUSLY BAFFLED

How does the Ruger Mini-30 compare to the AK platform?
in Saiga 7.62 X 39

Dude an AR is not a boutique weapon...get off your high horse...AR and AK are both great weapons...they are different because they were designed for a completely different purpose and different times
