  1. I just got done with a conversion (along with a med twister puck and gas fixer plug) and the gun now FTE's nearly every round, even with buck and slugs on setting 2 out of 3. Is there something that could be dragging here and slowing the bolt down enough to cause the failures?
  2. The only Winchester I used was #6 heavy game... figured that would be adequate. The cheaper stuff I used was Federal bulk pack from Wallyworld. I have 1500+ rounds of slug, buck and BB but I want it to function on anything with just a turn of the plug. The idea is that the gun should function with any off the shelf ammo... no reason other than I want it to. I'm sure I'll probably have to overbore the ports a bit and polish to get it to do this, but that's the goal. Thanks BTW
  3. Ah... thanks guys... thought that might be my problem. This is also a 3 port gun with no polishing, so I may have to do that as well. Just trying to do it a little bit at a time to see how far I have to go to make it function 100%. Other than the function issue that will probably be corrected with the puck facing the right way and maybe a little TLC on the edges/finish it's coming out pretty well IMO:
  4. Quick question I couldn't find with a search... I got the Etac twister puck standard version and can't tell which way it goes in. The instructions from CSS say the "GOGUN USA" marked side goes toward the back. Is that the back of the gun or facing back towards whomever is doing the install? I just got done doing the conversion on my S12 along with the new puck and plug, and it won't cycle the heavy game 6 shot it used to before... even on the 3 setting. I'm wondering if I have the puck in backwards.
  5. Maybe I'll give them a call tomorrow... I just received an email today (two weeks later) that they sent an email on August 10th. There is no email from their domain on my server since the order confirmation email, with the exception of one of their advertising emails. I think I'll try Carolina Shooter's Supply next time for the parts I can't get on my own.
  6. I ordered a parts kit from Mississippi Auto Arms for my S12, and they sent me two SAW grips and no trigger guard assembly. I've sent them three emails over two weeks and haven't received a response. Are they a little one horse shop and haven't replied to my email because they're swamped, or are they ignoring me? After three emails and two weeks I'm betting on the latter, but I've ordered parts from them before and not had problems. If they are aholes and just ignoring me... where should I get another trigger guard package?
  7. Thanks for all the info guys... I just received the puck and plug, and when the conversion kit arrives I'll be tearing her down and looking for everything that's been mentioned here.
  8. Thanks for the input guys. I've had issues with everything from Federal #4 to Winchester #8. Although I don't plan on using light loads in this I want to be able to if necessary. It's not converted yet, but it will be shortly. Other than that it's currently set up with a Chaos rail, MD and Surefire, ACE, Aimpoint Micro, etc. I do have the plug and puck inbound and I've been checking out the polishing PDF that's floating around on the site. I'm not really worried about warranty... just want to make it run. I'm good with my hands, have plenty of smithing tools, and I don't know everything there
  9. Hehe... ok, so how about for somebody who is competent enough to work on AR's on up to mild machining mods on FA shorty rigs and doesn't want to pay your fine establishment to do what they can do themselves?
  10. Does anybody know what I can do to my Saiga to ensure it runs any off the shelf 12ga load out there? This thing has an issue with low base/low recoil loads and I would like to fix that. What do I do?
  11. I checked with Chaos... was interested in trying one and selling their products if I liked them. They informed me that they were no longer making the quad rail, and the only thing I see on their site that's similar are the two rails (tri lower and ext top rail) that make up the quad. Anybody know anything about this?
  12. I've been browsing the photo thread, and there are some nice ones scattered throughout. I think I have the parts list to do the conversion, I have the light and optic under control, and I already have the mags covered. What I need is a forearm. I like the Halo, but from what I can tell it's heavy. I don't want heavy on this gun... will probably have the barrel cut as short as I can and keep 16" and OAL legal. I have a 458SOCOM that will throw the big lead, so this will be a shot only gun. Do the poly handguard/rails out there work well? Everything I have on other guns is machined, and I've nev
  13. Hey all... new to the Saiga thing. I've had a Saiga12 for about a year now, but haven't done anything with it. It's currently stock except for the stock, grip and mags. I've been too busy building AR's for the last year to two and have neglected my Saiga. My question is- what do I want to do to this thing? From what I can gather the first thing to do is mill off the rear of the receiver, get a new FCG, and move it forward to the correct spot. Who's parts should I use? I'm intimately familiar with the AR stuff, but not so much on the Saiga so I don't even know what the preferred parts are
