Went to the indoor range today and I was shooting my fully converted Saiga with my Krebbs Custom AK 74 styled brake and noticed something weird.
When I was shooting it, sometimes I would see a flame coming out the right side and sometimes out of the left side and sometimes on top.
It was an indoor range so I could definitely see it, but I thought it was weird. I was shooting offhand so I didn't notice any weird shots (or fly aways) and I couldn't check the groups. Golden Tiger FMJ
My specs:
MI FDe handguard,
Fully converted with parts from Markw
Magpul RVG
Magpul CTR (I have a FDE one on the way)
Magpul MIAD
Ace AK-AR grip converter
CSS rear adapter
Ace side folder and buffer tube adapter.

Thanks for the compliment.
I'm thinking of doing a nylon tipped set screw or a set screw with a plunger to keep it snug. It sounds like a great idea, but I can't find the size.

Hey guys,
I have been using my Saiga setup with my ace folder for some time now and I noticed that the folder has a tick of wobble in it that probably could be removed. I noticed there's a set screw that can be adjusted, but it could be more effective if it maybe had a soft or a plastic tip on it that could deflect somewhat when put into the shoulderable configuration.
Here's some pics for reference:
it's the push button folder.....

I cut a little bit into my barrel on mine. Won't hurt nothing.
-
I really have no desire to move the FCG forward, yet.
lol. Just wait. I said the same thing and converted after I got home from the range. I wouldn't waste five minutes doing anything other than "restoring it."

7.62x39 for your first one. End of discussion.
-
You could go with a $419 "Certified Wasr" from Henderson Defense. Then you don't have to worry about a shoddy finish or canted sights. The nice this about Wasr's is they don't take proprietary bolt action parts.

I can see the quality and design that went into this for sure. There are a few good options for around your price, however.

id be horrified and have buyers remorse if i ordered a 7.62x39 and it didnt have dimples
Why?
Yeah, why?
The mag dimples don't make that much of a difference. Also, if it doesn't have dimples it might have a pinned FSB and GB, which makes life easier.

You have a Dremel and a hand drill? Do it yourself, pretty hard to screw up. Tapping the trunnion is the most dicey part but it's like anal sex... just go slow, don't force it, and use lots of lube.
A lot of smiths aren't AK-friendly and really don't have a clue when it comes to stuff like this. His loss, your gain.
As others said, the plastic hole plugs work great and eventually if you want to fill the holes and refinish the receiver, that's easy too.
Best advice every. I used the Carolina Shooter Supply rear adapter and you put some 10-32 button heads into those holes. Great Idea.
To the OP - Do it SLLLLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWWW and take you time on everything. If something isn't making sense or doesn't look right, pull up the video or another video or post something on here. We love seeing new people like you posting pics of your converted Saiga and we'll answer your ???'s sometimes within minutes.
Good luck and get crackin'

What about the European issued ones from AIM for a dollar more? They seem sturdy and have metal followers. Are they ok for, lets say SHTF use? It looks like they were issued at one time.

What will it cost?

I got more in my FULL conversion. Probably about $1G, but it's exactly how I want it and all kinds a bad ass
-
Is that the saiga specific MI handguard? How do you like it? I have been considering that same stock set up for my 308 (only with a cheek riser to allow use of an optic), please let us know what you think of it after more use.
It's kinda hard to see from the pics (unless you enlarge them), but it's FULLY converted Saiga not. I did the gasblock, FSB, the gas tube and the handguard retainers. I LOVE the MI handrail.

Hey guys,
Yeah, you have to hit the button to pop it away and then press it again to put it back in. It's awesome!
I love the color combo. It looks close to the same color in person.
-
Looks good! I like how the front sight and gas blocks came out, good job.
Yeah, they came out good mostly thanks to you! Thank you for replying to my 300 emails why I was doing it!

Wow,
Thanks for the compliments, guys.
The ACE is super solid.
There was a little play with the folder, but there's a set screw that adjusts it so no there's NONE.
I'll report back on the groupings.

also set the weapon on a flat surface from trigger guard forward (NO HANDGUARDS). Check the sides of the receiver to see if they are square with a 90 deg. 6" plastic carpenters square (A plastic triangle with one 90 degree angle and two 45s). Then check the FSB to see if it is square. Adjust so there is equal distance between upright square and top of FSB on both sides. I have done this three times and it worked perfect. This is the method I will be using again when I "plum it" out.
Can you post a link of what you're talking about? I work for a supply company and I wanna get one of these. Thanks!
It is simply a "carpenter's square" about $1 at Walmart, Home Depot, Lowes, or any hardware store. It is a plastic triangle, usually yellow or gray,. I has one 90 degree angle and two 45s. One leg of the 90 is a base about 1" wide so it will stand upright.
Do you mean a rafter angle square? If so, does the ears of the front sight touch the square or do you have to approximate the distance?

Aren't you selling your 7.62x39in the marketplace?
