  1. Until tests like this are done and made public, where the average buyer can see and understand them visually....all of this bickering between trinket salesmen (of which I own several brands or trinket from vendors here) is pro-wrestling style drama used to "drum" up sales....no pun intended. Look. These guys are salesmen...anybody with half a brain knows whats really going on here.
  2. What is a good amount to take off the hammer...I will be converting soon, and will be shaving my unmodified G2 hammer down....also, is there any reason the factory hammer can't/shouldn't be reused?
  3. on an gun who's ports are already correct factory spec? I was wondering if anybody intentionally over gassed their gun this way to maximize performance with the worst of the worst ammo. Let's assume that the gun is correctly ported from the factory, and the bolt assembly is unpolished, and the gas plug settings were carefully managed (GasFixr), or the new auto plug was in play.....would adding the port or enlarging the existing ones overcome the unpolished factory bolt/carrier in terms of available energy to get the job done? Been thinking of doing this myself....but it seems kind of b
  4. Well, I am going to go with the CSS version. (No offense to Tromix....i'm just not an "angle" type of guy. Besides, I'm getting the modified G2 by Tromix to make up for it) I will be adding a SAW grip and a regular ol' AK stock. This is the first firearm I've owned, and of course, my first conversion, so I'm keeping it quick and easy
  5. I am fixing to start ordering my conversion parts, and I have a few concerns that I will relate in question from: 1. Does anybody have experience with the DIY bolt on trigger guards, (Tromix, CSS) in terms of how reliable they are, IE: is the built in grip nut/bushing strong enough to handle S12 power? I like the fact of having that nut built in to the guard..but I am not beyond cutting out the hole required to fit the normal grip nut.. 2. Those same guards are mentioned being made for the SAW grips.....will the built in nut be able to accept a traditional AK grip, assuming the rig
  6. As the proud owner of a new Saiga 12 as of yesterday, i would like to report the following: After I purchased the aforementioned firearm at the Ft Worth gun show on June 26 2010, I took her immediately to a gun range that I had in mind. Of course, I was scared that I had purchased a vodka special, and was kind of anticipating the worst. However...... It worked perfectly! From cheap wally world bulk, to high brass buck, to good ol' slugs....she spit shells out of the port with an enthusiasm unmatched by anything I've seen! I never even went to setting 2... After lurk
  7. Have any recent S12 owners experienced insufficient plugs, and is it possible that IZ has fixed the problem on recent production runs? Hoping that maube I will luck out and get a post-fix model I did see a thread here (the warranty return thread from Cadiz) that there are specific batch numbers to look out for on the box.... In any case, I am sure that fun times will ensue. Any local gunsmiths in N TX on here that perhaps could help me with any potential problems? I am in no way set up with proper tools, and will need a go-to person if I run into trouble.....thanks for the replies!
  8. I am paranoid, after pouring over the forums for hours, about gas ports... so I have a question: Is there an -easy- way to check for sure how many there are, with no tools, and in a gun show environment? Should I expect the vendor to let me inspect the weapon in that fashion, if it is possible to check for them? I have seen a ton of them at the last show (Ft. Worth Gun Show), and hopefully I wont be getting a dreaded Vodka special. Thanks for any thoughts you all may have....
