  2. Really hate to part with them, but two long guns for sale:

  3. so what happens when your wife screws your buddy and you go crazy? are you gonna stop and go turn in your guns because you are now crazy? gimme a f"n break! what will stop whackos is sane people ready for them. "man tries to go crazy, but alert citizen curb stomps him" is how it should read....dam!

No. I wouldnt' expect a crazy person to do the right thing voluntarily. But a crazy person has no business around firearms. People on many medications for depression, insomnia, exhaustion, etc. have no business being around firearms, either. Like Pauly said, take a look at side-effects.

  4. The recent ones all seem to have been commited by people with mental illness flags all over their backgrounds.

Yep. And this time it's 8 and 10 year old targets...

Many more people are mentally ill than those who are ever adjudicated mentally defective or committed to institutions (adjudication and commitment are really formal processes). Hell, for the duration that anyone's GP is prescribing prozac or sleepaids or whatever that might bring about a case of the crazies, those people shouldn't be anywhere near firearms!

Yet small, stupid check-box questions are the only things that will weed-out ill-intentioned gun buyers who aren't already on government radar. Form 4473 is fucking stupid -- using the honor system as a gatekeeper to firearms is proving itself as ineffective as it is fucking stupid.

I am a gun owner, and I am a concealed carry permit holder in Delaware. The process for concealed carry here is practical and should be applied to gun ownership in general. It requires references, background investigation, brief written statements, brief training, and a judge's approval.

Make every gun owner go through that process and renew on a 3 to 5 year basis. Grant extra privileges, like automatic concealed carry. Hell, might as well allow people silencers and full auto if quality checks could be done. It's reasonable, and good people will still keep access to guns.

I understand 2A is viewed as a right by many, but it's apparent to me that that the people who abuse 2A take away many more rights and pursuits of their victims. For that reason, I am ok framing 2A as a privilege.

I sort of doubt bureaucracy could deal with it properly, though.

  5. This is why I love this forum. The wealth of experience and willingness to help others is unmatched. I come in with two options and walk away with 10! I will consider the Sig 226 conversion. My daughter is 5'7" and wears a mens size 10 shoe already, so she can handle larger frame pistols. Although I am a BIG fan of 1911 pistols, they will definitely be out of the price range for this buy. I like the idea of a Glock frame with the conversion slide. I hadn't thought of that possibility. I may take her to look at a few pistols under the auspice of Daddy buying a new gun. She would probably buy into that based on how many I have already bought in the last 24 months. It may be the best way to determine what best "fits" her. Apart from reliability, to me, the trigger is the next biggest consideration on a hand gun. It doesn't have to be perfect out of the box, but I would want the ability to tune it aftermarket. I appreciate all of those that have commented on the triggers of the various options above. I appreciate the input!

Glad to give another option. If you do choose the P226 Classic, I recommend breaking it in with about 300 rounds of CCI MiniMag. After that, as long as you or your daughter don't baby arm it, you should be able to cycle lower-test 22lr -- I've been able to cycle everything down to Aguila 60gr subsonic.

Also, the X-Change kits all have Sig Lite Night Sights. It's great having a P226 that interchangeably shoots 10 rounds of 22lr with dovetail and 15 rounds of 9mm with night sights for less than $900.

To be fair, you can probably configure a Glock similarly; I just don't have experience with those.

  6. I am looking at getting my 14 yo daughter her first pistol for Christmas. I want her to start with a .22 to learn the fundementals before moving up to larger calibers. I have looked at both pistols above and have always liked the feel of the Walthers. Any recommendations from those that have owned or shot both. Any others that I should be looking at?

If it feels good in her hand, I would spend a little more ($500 to $600) and get a Sig P226 Classic (22LR). Down the road, she can change to 9, 40, or 45 for about $300 a kit. The swap takes all of 3 seconds, too.

  7.

I was thinking about getting this, but I think someone installed a wooden RPK handgaurd and said it required alot of inside material to be removed to fit. Not willing to drop almost 300 and find out I'm shit outta luck with the fit on something metal

Not sure if I'm the one you had in mind, but I installed some RPK wood. It took some dremmeling. It was mostly the lower handguard and buttstock that needed the attention, but it took a while mainly because I had to sand a bit and check, sand a bit, and check, etc...

I don't think I'd want to do that to an expensive metal rail though...

  8. Some of the folks on this forum are amazing. I've posted my criticisms of the Vepr 12 on these forums.

First, I loved the Vepr 12 when I saw the first pics and read it was coming in. I was one of the very first pre-orders.

Second, I'm not making a buck.

The bottom line is that I didn't enjoy shooting the gun when I had it to the range on Friday, and I don't keep guns that I don't enjoy. The Vepr 12 otherwise lived up to its reputation for sturdiness and reliability.

  9. OK, in the short amount of time I have I will cite one good example. The new lead paint regulation, our company and many others quit offering external house painting as a service. The hoops you have to jump through to paint a house are unbelievable, not to mention the punishments and fines that would completely put us out of business if one of their rules was found to be broken even by accident. It is no longer worth the risk. And yes, fear of what is to come is a huge factor when considering to expand or hire new employees. I could certainly understand a business scaling back(read firing) due to the 'fear' of what may come in this term. It is pretty easy to understand how this president is not friendly to business, for most. If you did not vote for Obama then there must have been an even more progressive candidate on the ballot in your state, based solely on your comments in this thread.

Understood. Is this the Renovation, Repair, and Painting Program?

I'm in Delaware. The only election that matters here is the primary, and you basically have to register democrat to participate. I had no one to vote for in the general/Presidential election. Obama and Romney were both bad but for very different reasons.

..... But to play fiscal conservative advocate, medicare reimbursement is an entitlement, a form of subsidy, that, some would say, has allowed healthcare costs to artificially inflate. Cutting it and shifting the difference to the company or patient and letting the market bear it out is more of a conservative move.

I'm a conservative too, but I get really tired of Medicare and Social Security being called "entitlements".

We have all paid into those programs all of our lives through payroll deductions.

The only true "entitlements" are Welfare and Medicare benefits paid to recipients who did not pay into it .

When benefit recipients pay nothing into a program and then reap the rewards, then fine that's an "entitlement" if you like to call it that.

Why the hell would I not expect to get a benefit for all of the money I paid into it though?

Govt. can do away with all of the "entitlements", just give me all of my money back I paid into those programs with interest.

    Anything less is theft.

Fair point. The only thing I'll say is that I take the same payroll deduction hits as the guy who smokes and drinks and will need $2,000,000 worth of liver and cancer care. Meanwhile, I take generally good care of myself and shouldn't run up the same bill. So even those contributing can take a disproportionate share.

I'd like that money back, too. Too much runs on it, though.

  10. Recoil is helping it cycle. Take away the recoil on very light loads, and there isn't enough for it to cycle properly. Would be my guess.

That's what it seems to be, I'm open to ideas, though. I like the CSS brake, and it definitely does its recoil reducing job.

I think it has more to do with the stock it shipped with. I put a Saiga sporter stock on mine (until someone gets off their ass and makes a LEFT SIDE FOLDER), any way the stock it came with sucks in my opinion. It makes it hard to get a good shoulder weld.

I switched out the stock for an RPK wood stock -- it's got about the same length as the factory placeholder. I get a decent enough shoulder weld...I think the low top of the RPK stock is producing the high slug shots. Need to come up with a cheek pad or new stock and see.

  11. You said GK-01 brake. Is that the Russian one or the CSS copy? I shot mine today with the CSS brake, no issues with WIN Universal

CSS brake. When I removed it, no more FTE the target stuff.

  12. Made it to the range and shot 100 rounds of 2 3/4" winchester and federal target loads, 30 rounds of 2 3/4" remington slugs, and 5 rounds of Winchester PDX.

Took me 50 rounds of on-and-off target load failures to eject before I realized the GK-01 brake was the issue. I took it off and the target loads cycled fine. However, the recoil reduction by the brake is noticeable -- when the brake is gone, the gun gets punchy. A better stock would probably help.

The slugs and PDX cycled just fine with brake, but slug groups weren't particularly accurate -- maybe 3" or so, and I kept hitting high. I don't have a lot of experience shooting slugs from an 18" barrel, though.

  13. Healthcare providers are expecting at least a 20% cut in reimbursement rates for medicare. As medicare patients make up a large portion of our customers, this is a pretty significant loss. My administrators decided to take this action prior to the election and pending its results. Therefore our layoffs are a direct result of Obama's re-election.

Ok. So this sounds like a legit reason why downsizing would happen in your industry. But to play fiscal conservative advocate, medicare reimbursement is an entitlement, a form of subsidy, that, some would say, has allowed healthcare costs to artificially inflate. Cutting it and shifting the difference to the company or patient and letting the market bear it out is more of a conservative move.

Its not that he is disagreeable and the layoffs are not about proving a point. They (employers) are afraid of what he will do.

Fear is a bullshit reason for firing someone, and I'd take that up with the company before I blame the President.

  14. Obamacare. You just don't get it.

I don't think the healthcare was well-timed, and I certainly don't see its benefit as an upper-middle class citizen who already had health insurance.

But I help run a successful small business, and we're not phased by the healthcare legislation. In fact, existing state and local taxes are more of a thorn in our side and always have been.

So I'm looking for a person who can spell-out the cause and effect of layoffs and not confuse it with broader economic downturn or a poorly managed business.

Mere re-election of a disagreeable president should not trigger layoffs. Are employers really such assholes that they would sacrifice employees to prove a political point?

"You just don't get it" is not an acceptable explanation.

  15. Koljec- I assume you believe that the president is good for business. Our family business has suffered in the last term, and I don't see much 'hope' for the next.

No, I don't like Obama, I did not vote for him, and I don't believe he's good for business.

I am sorry that your family business has suffered during his term. I'd be glad to learn how Obama has impacted your family business -- sharing concrete stuff like that is much more meaningful than the article that was linked.

  16. Looks like the unemployment rate is about to skyrocket.... American businesses are making a very strong statement.

It's not going to skyrocket, though, not for layoffs stated in the article anyway. That article is about as full of crap and misleading as the pop-media polling data that predicted a much closer Presidential election.

Be mad at that. The Chefs are feeding us soup.

  17. Take the time to read each of the source articles.

One of the companies laying off 600 is Husqvarna...half of the layoffs are in Sweden, and the rest are elsewehre in the world.

Boeing states that it will employ 30% fewer executives. Boo hoo.

A lot of these "layoffs" are padded, not related to Obama in the slightest, or otherwise irrelevent.

Providence Journal is a newspaper, a dead medium -- of course it's tanking. It's only a matter of time before it flies a Gannett flag.

    CVPH is a medical center...

  18. And, believe it or not, Carolina SS improved upon the improved upon the GK-01's design.

Correctly to write worsen the GK-01's design, if you're attended Physics classes sad.png , but I'm not familiar to the business on stolen ideas/intellectual property. GK-01 is not Molot or IZMASH design it's Ilyns design.

Maybe French and Finland Police and others are also cheerleader wink.png I don't defend Molot, when they made not good QC shotguns, but the truth is that they made them better then IZMASH, and when IZMASH made shotgun based on AK-12 and the quality of showed example, I'll switch to Saiga-12, and became the next year "cheerleader" of Kalashnikov Corp.

I don't like that you hypocritically and ignorantly disparage one of this forum's best vendors, and I don't really care what Frogs and Finns think, or how Ilyn's (whoever that is) design is the pinnacle of design when some domestic ingenuity has improved upon it in terms of price and availability if not actual function.

Vepr 12s are nowhere near similarly priced SA Benellis out of the box. They're nifty, but they remain an over-priced modder's gun. Thanks for your incessant cheerleading, though.

  19.

Believe or not, Matt Groening wrote "The Simpson Handbook" for people who want to draw Simpsons for personal use. I draw Homer with Vepr as personal avatar, and in Exif data is © 20 Century Fox is presented, and if someone wants to earn the money from these pics thay have to contact them or Matt Groening. The t-shirts, as avatars, was made for my personal use also.

Personal use is fine. And, believe it or not, Carolina SS improved upon the GK-01's design.

You're a little too much of a cheerleader for the Vepr 12 when the gun is not the quality of other $1,000 firearms commonly available in the US.

  20. I've made several own design t-shirts with both my Vepr-12 using textile printer.

No offense, but you gave Carolina SS holy hell for not clearly stating "Copy of GK-01", and yet you go around making t-shirts with graphics you certainly don't have the rights to? eta nye pravilno
