  1. I just put mine in yesterday and had a bit of trouble but I just kept backing it out and made sure I wasn't cross threading it and it finnally cut itself in. I think the new threads on the plug are just a little sharp, that's what it looked like when I held it up against the old plug. Also I put a couple drops of oil on the new plug.

It may be that what ever proccess they use on them ( like bluing)after the threads are cut adds a tiny bit of thickness. Just a thought.

  2. usually when you ride the bolt down it is "catching" on the extractor on the bolt locking into battery. it could be your piston but thats not normal i dont think. if you you look closely at the extractor while closing the bolt you might find this is what is "catching".

ETA. also as stated above they do like it rough!! no need to be gentle with it. i beat the living hell out out of mine yesterday removing and reinstalling the gas block and it barely made a scratch!

I did look at the extracter when I first got it and was inspecting the bolt and didn't pay too much attention to the last little catch it had because I planned on running it like an AK. It was when I was later checking my gas ports to see how many I had that I tipped the puck out and then looked in the gas block at the same time I had inadvertantly pushed on the charging handle with my right hand and when I let off I noticed the piston hit. There is enough play in the piston where it mounts to the the bolt carrier that it does ride up on and into the gas tube and not slam it head on and then up and over so it should be ok I was just trying to see what others had experienced with this.

    Thanks guys.

  3. If you dont mind me askin... what did you end up deciding on?

Can the Saiga 12 have the traditional looking handguards? Basically i want my shotgun to look like an AK-103... is that possible? Im getting another Saiga 7.62x39 and i want plastic furniture. Is KVAR the only company that makes plastic furniture?

I just spent the last 2 weeks figuring out what it'd cost to go that route. For the price it will cost me to convert the entire shot gun with my new plan I would have spent the same amount just on the hanguard and gas tube set up. If you feel like spending $500 on a $300 shotty and then decking it out with another $500 for conversion parts you're not spending enough money but this seems to be the place to come to remedy any "extra" cash flow problems you might have.:lolol:

I'm not gonna say til I post a pic and thats about $600 away.:lolol:

  5. So it just vents the gas when the puck is all the way back?

When hot gas pushes the piston back, the air behind the piston has to have a place to vent, or it will create resistance to the piston's rearward movement. Plugging the hole prevents the air behind the piston (puck) from venting.

Funny I just got done reading the "vodka special" write up and couldn't figure out why they would completely weld up the hole. I could understand maybe making the hole smaller but to weld it up all together? That gas has to go somewhere.

Ummmm..... there is a bit of bad info in that thread. I'll just keep it simple by agreeing with those that say leave the hole be. No offense intended to the author of that thread. I do understand that the intention was good.

Trust me when I say that everything i've read on this site so far I take with a grain of salt and use my own common sense and judgement.

I've read just about everything on here and a thread usually starts out in 05 with "this is the shit" or "here is how to do this"

only to read up to present day and find out that it wasn't the way to do it.

kinda nice having waited this long to get a saiga.:super:

  7. I noticed in some videos that when the bolt is released slowely it "catches" about an inch before seating. So today I noticed where it was hanging up when I had the gas plug off looking at my ports. The end of the piston makes slight contact on the bottom of the gas tube then rides up and into position. This doesn't seem to be affecting anything but it is 2 sharp edges making contact at a high rate of speed normally. Any thoughts on this?

  8. I am glad I just found out about the double stack mags.

I would have hated to have been crying like a bitch for a year for these

Ill start crying like one now.

How long on the double stack mags :lolol:

I hope that he has a stack of them so when he does start they can keep up with demand cause I want one or two as well and I hate crying.

  9. I don't think there's any legal issues since Mossburg makes the 590A1 SPX that has a M9 bayonet lug on it. I have seen some bayonet set ups on S12s so I know it can be done. You probably have to modify the bayonet since the bore of a 12 gauge is so much bigger then a rifle.

I think dinzags site says that the AK74 brake or the 00 choke will accomadate the bayonet.

  10. so does that mean you build them all for yourself or no? dont misunderstand im not fishin for a way to buy one...

    I am. :D

Saigatech's work is some of the finest I've ever seen. I think he posts these pics, (of badass guns/parts he's not selling), to torture us. :cryss:

No kidding whats next waterboarding. Nice stuff saigatech!

  11. Thanks guys I finally found the stuff to make it happen on Dinzags site (sticker shock):lolol: and that'll have to do unless I can piece some of what he offers together myself. I was looking at that PG on the ironwood site and a pic from here and they are just too stubby looking. If I can find a molot/VeprII style like the new plastic ones from MD arms only in wood I may just sell a kidney to build this thing.:electric_shock:

  12. I thought if I was gonna get an S12 it would have to be wood at least the PG and 2 pc. HG. I found the HG at Ironwood but want a molot style PG w/ fingergrooves.Kinda wanted to find the PG first so I know what TG to get and I need to know whats involved in fitting the 2 pc. HG.

I'm just now starting to figure out this site so if I missed any info on this stuff don't lynch the n0oB.B)

  13. That Saiga with the SVD stock is sweet! Wow, you're in the ATL. eh? I might have to drive all the way down from Cobb County to find your mini Saiga factory! :super:

    Let's go shoot sometime!!

You're killin me with your secret little toys. Are you Batman?

  14. I just joined yesterday...I had no idea there were so many options for the Saiga. Those are some of the best looking Saigas I have seen, WOW. You are indeed a craftsman.

I just joined too and I agree, that is what I had in mind when I decided to get an S12, incredible work.
