  1. My IZ109 with 4 ports. Even on setting 1 it will cycle low-recoil 00 and bird shot. Only shells I've ever fired that need setting 2 are Ranger low recoil slugs.

If I shortened the barrel to 16" and permanently attached DPH's phantom (so overall barrel length would be a hair over 18") would the ports need resizing?

That is something that you would find out once its done. Do it then test fire and you will have your answer. I had my barrel chopped and added JTE comp brake to come up w. a total barrel length of 18.2", but since the brake is 4" l only have 14" of solid barrel. My gun that always ran everything started to FTE everything. It had 3 ports so l opened those 3 to 3/32, still didnt run. Polished internals, rails, bolt carrier etc, & it still didnt run. Went back added a 4th @ 5/64, still FTE'd. After adding a 5th port @ 5/64 gun runs like a machine. So l now have a total of 5 ports, 3 @3/32, and 2 @ 5/64. But it has shot everything lve fed it since. Its not over-gassed, & runs perfectly. Its just something that you won't really know the answer to until you do it. Good Luck!

  2. WOW! WTF happened to this thread. Now we're eating our own? :ded:

It's the usual rambling mix of wild speculation, ignorant opinion and tin-foil-hattery.

Actually, TROMIX and every other vendor on this board are "PRAYING".

We are all betting that the platform has a future, and we spend money every day investing in it.

The armchair gunsmiths on this board are pretty funny sometimes.

    Fixed that for you.

You mean the people that are going off of past history, as opposed to nothing more than hope because the platform makes us money?

Like I said, I hope I'm wrong, but given what the ATF has done with shotguns of less stature than these in the past, I hope you have other revenue streams. That isn't tin foil hattery, it's called an educated guess.

Dude how many percosets have you eaten before writing this crap?

You sure are quick to spout off at some of the Forums most respected members with absolutely nothing to say. How about you shut the Fuck up!

And Prick is and A$hole, respected by no one. And l call you what l want Prick, not what you prefer, dumbass.

  3. Dude, you clearly have a tremendously negative attitude and the propensity to believe that everything has an uderlying destructive impact. Your best bet is to stock up on all of your ammo (at least 10,000 rnd per cal.) and MREs (at least 3 yrs. supply), dig a shelter into your back yard that can sustain you and the other morons dumb enough to get into your arc and disconnect yourself from the "grid". Someone is obviously coming to get us/you.

    FFS :lolol:

    +1 :haha:

  4.

Well, in a way, I kind of can't wait, because thats exactly what I have said all along, keep your options open, failing to do so, some may face those exact same consequences I saw people go through with the registration of the Striker12/StreetSweepers, some places do not allow posession of class three items, so cut it up, or sell it, some won't register them, and some will, depending on how much you fear Uncle Salty coming to get them, vs. being illegal and being able to have them, if needed.

AS for my tone, it was exactly as respectful as your post asking me the questions I answered, so what did you expect?

That was my point, that you feel so superior, that you have to say "l told you so" to satisfy the ego you've erected around yourself in your time in this business. Period. End of Story. Your tone never offended me, it was your superiority complex as relayed through your first post. As for your reply to mine, it was to be expected from someone who spouts like you. Wish you the best, enjoy your life, or whats left of it.

  5. Ok Newb, I'll give you a reply, though by rights, you haven't been here long enough to deserve one.

Getting satisfaction at the fact that responsible gun owners are losing the ability to convert their guns as they see fit SICKENS me worse than this study.

Oh, I have no satisfaction is seeing anyone lose the right to anything that they wish, grow your weed, make machine guns, don't hurt anybody else, and I don't care what you do, but DON'T include in that list, doing something stupid, that brings attention to the gun community in a bad light, or worse, hurts ALL of us gun owners.

You are one smug A$hole to to be touting that "l told you so" attitude when our liberties are on the verge of being abused AGAIN by the ATF.

And this is news? Seems I have lived through multiple bans, machine gun, chinese ammo, chinese guns, all assault weapons, two sets of DD regulations, USAS12, and the SS/Striker12, been a lifelong gun owner and lifetime NRA member, own more guns than you will probably ever own, and as a dealer, have put many guys into guns at my cost JUST to get people into the shooting hobbies.

Yeah Newb, I have been around long enough to have learned a bit, and, have a bit of "Smugness" as you call it, confidence in my words is what I see it as.

Why do you think your opinion is so God Damned important, as to be invigorated when the shit is hitting the fan for our FELLOW gun owners?

Are you a lifetime NRA member? If not, don't even say one word more to me about why my opinion is so important, and list your qualification on why yours is any better. Till then, screw you and your opinions.

Tell me what makes you better than the rest of the people on here? And better than anyone who had their guns converted as they saw fit, and within compliance of the law at the time?

It goes back a few years, so I can't fault you on not knowing, but, from the beginning, there was an ongoing argument here about "Converting" saigas, in terms of legality, I have opined that when any type of folding stock/pistol grip is put on a Saiga, it is no longer "Sporting" and in terms of the law, only kosher if done to 922R regs., I also at the time warned that conversions should be easily made retro, or sporting again, as any conversion, permanent, or bolt on, could draw attention from the ATF in the future, just as had happened to the USAS12/SS/Striker12, some poo pood that, arguing that time would never come, then, the high caps rolled out, the drums rolled out, and, yes, the unwanted attention, is now upon us from the ATF.

Did you notice the pistol grip Saiga, and drum in the ATF report??????????

Are you saying it is the fault of the people who modified their guns to their preference that the ATF is hot on our heels, and thus that you are an innocent lamb in regards to possible ATF policy changes?

IN part, yes they are responsible, so are the drum manufacturers, so am I for buying conversion stocks, and mags, drums, and doing my part to make the whole system functional, I didn't buy that much, but, yes anyone in the community that has made this system popular, is at some fault, because it all adds up to make this put the Saiga shotguns, on the radar of the ATF.

But, there are some who do bear a heavier responsibility, in giving the community bad PR, making the saiga appear to be a trivial lead tossing death machine, or even things as small as their board handles, Zombie what? I know zombie shooting is a recognized sport and all, but, cmon, grow the fuck up already, and act like an adult.

Or that you are just smarter than everyone? If not, just tell me WTF you meant by the above statement,

Smarter, probably more than some, of course, not as smart as others. I advised that people consider the fact that the Saiga could face registration, and to keep the gun in a state, that it could be made sporting if needed, and that was as easy, as retaining the original parts, and not permanently welding up the two pin holes left after a trigger group conversion, again, some said that day where you needed to do that would never occur, and, it appears that the day where it will be necessary, has come closer.

and how you feel it was justified.

That day will come, when you have people scrambling for the original stocks, original FCG's, and for someone to redrill the sporting configuration FCG holes, and when it happens, they are gonna pay, and alot more than what those "Useless" parts sold for, when they did their permanent conversions.

Or even better, when the day came to register every "Bad" saiga, there would be NONE to go on the list, and that would REALLY piss the ATF off.

Pandora's box HAS been opened spud, and its never going to close, the best we can do now is to present the Saiga shotgun system in as good a light as possible, to all write nice letters to the BATF telling them how our saigas have saved modern society from the downfall that will occur if its restricted, etc.

Do I hope that the report, and inevitable conclusions then rulings are bad, HELL NO, I hope they clarify forever that a Saiga thats permanently converted is fine, that we can all buy Striker12's and USAS12's, and machine guns, all of them.

Do I expect that to happen? No, what I expect is registration of non sporting Saiga's, and some way to ban, or make illegal the use of a high cap, or drum, in any Saiga shotgun, or at least the attempt to get both of the above.

Hey, If they end up tossing the whole sporting regs, from the GCA of 68, I'll join you in dancing in the streets, and I'll toss my saiga factory stock on the bonfire, and I'll gladly admit I was wrong, till then, don't hold your breath.

OK so you are a gun god, and have put your time in. l can respect your place in the gun business, whatever that may be. I also respect the fact that you took time from your godly status to give an undeserved, albeit thorough reply to a whelp like me. It helped clarify your stance on the subject enough so that if l read it a few times, l could almost understand it. l'm definitely not arguing against any of those rebuttals of yours, THEY make some kinda sense. And while l cant argue that l just barely signed on, have a comical user name, and know shite compared to you, l would like to point out that you still havent owned up to, or explained the fact that you say "I can't wait to see you guys facing registration, destruction, or burial of your permanently converted guns." and still consider yourself a god in the saiga community. And while l may be a complete newbidiot, lm ok with that, because lm not a megalomaniacal know it all, who get his rocks off on saying "l told you so, l told you so, l was right all along, look at me, look at me" to people who may have had different opinions than you, but were probably actually a lot like you. Without the deep-seated need to always be right, and have others acknowledge that fact of course. Admittedly my feeble mind became angry at your statement, but that is a by-product of my own inferiority. So l, being thoroughly enlightened by a far superior intellect, admit l had no right to even think of commenting on your demoralizing rant of superiority over the rest of us, will concede. You sir, are the cat's meow. MEEEOOOWWW

  6. "That TIME is going to COME, and I can't wait to see you guys facing registration, destruction, or burial of your permanently converted guns. I hope you kept your original parts, and didn't weld up the pin holes."

  7. That's awesome!!! I love the light coming out of the individual holes in the zombie head. :smoke:

Could you please change your avatar, I couldn't seemed to read a fucking thing, thanks!!! :lolol:

Totally lost track of what this thread was about after one look at that avatar! A rather long, bordering on cross-eyed look. Damn.:grimace:

  8. Sweet setup! My next gun will be something very similiar. l figure if l buy ammo for my ak (my mid-range gun), why not build an accurate ak-type sniper. Easier to bulk up on one type of ammo than several. So what kind of yardage have you tested her out on? l'd be interested to hear how long she is

  9. My friend wants one now.

And that is how the addiction spreads!!!:super: Everyone I've seen shoot a saiga12 for the first time immediately says "I have to get one of these!" I know l was smiling ear to ear my first time, and said the same damn thing. :smoke:

  10. Get the JTE brake and the drum. Monster brake is nice and all, but at the cost of a drum I'd go with the JTE. I have the JTE comp brake #1 and l love it!

Is that the trigger guard for the AR Grips? I wish I would of know about that when I converted mine.

-Now I am debating weather or not i should get the drum, or get the Magwell. any opinion on that?

Yeah thats the trigger guard you're thinking of. I installed that because l liked the dpms panther grip. As for the magwell debate, thats a totally personal preference, and we all have to decide for ourselves. I chose the drums because l like higher capacity mags w. my guns, and figured eventually someone will come out with a magwell that works with them. Now if l could just get a LRBHO l'd be in good shape.....

  11. I'm really glad to hear that.

I was like, NOOOOOO!!!! He went ape shit on 'em!!!

Well I was surprised when l kept having to go back into her to open her up more, but l did it step by step, and fired in between every mod to make sure.

5 ports sounds kinda extreme to me too, but thats what it took to get her running like l want.

The main thing l will say about it is that almost anyone can do these mods, but you have to do them in order like Paulyski says. Polish friction points 1st, check gas block hole, then if you have to open ports, take the time and do as minimal as possible, and test fire after each mod to see if problem still exists. Sure it takes time to reassemble and dissasemble each time, but you really do only have one shot at drilling your ports properly.

  12. When opening up the gas ports to 3/32, do you have to drill them at an angle like the original ports, or can you drill them out straight down? Thanks

I am not an expert by any means, but l followed the angle on mine. Remember, you only get one chance to do it right, so why screw around?

Here is the link. It was straight foward all the way. I only used one shelf bracket with a little duct tape to protect the gas block. Take a look at your ports before removing the gas block to see if they are blocked and how much to file away. Best of luck!

I followed the same thread and just this weekend opened my ports, and ended up adding 2 more for a total of 5, 3@3/32 and 2@5/64 to finally get it running smooth. Runs like a champ now! These directions were very easy to follow, and helped me tremendously. I had help from my Bro', but if we can do it, almost anyone can! Good Luck to all those who DIY, its not as complex as you think, just take your time and use common sense.

    How short is your barrel?

Did you do your extractor slot?

Polish & profile everything including CORRECTLY profiling the hammer?

Did you have a quad rail clamped on it?

There is a lot other than just ports to these guns operation.

My barrel is 18.5" with the brake which is 4", so I have 14.5" of solid barrel. My gun ran like butter from the factory, shot everything l put in it. Then l had it converted, chopped the barrel and attached the brake, added CSS tri-rail, stock, and it wouldnt shoot without FTE's.

So l polished the rails, still FTE'd, Polished the hammer, bolt & carrier @ points of friction, still had FTE's. Checked hole in gas block, it wasnt obstructin my gas ports, so l decided to open ports a little. Opened my 3 ports to 3/32, still wouldnt shoot, added 4th port @5/64, still wouldnt shoot as good as it needed, would get 4-5 shots off low brass before FTE. So l took it apart yet again and added a 5th port @ 5/64 and have since ran 150 rds thru her with only 1 FTE. Plan on running more thru her soon though.

I understand that once you start drilling, there's no going back so I tried everything l could before getting to the ports. After its all said and done, she is running like the beast she is supposed to be;-) I have an T.A.R.G.E.T. gas plug which will help compensate for overgassing if that occurs, but right now, she is in that sweet spot between under and over gassing.

  15. I have the JTE Comp. Brake #1 attached with the barrel chopped to 18.5" and l have to say it is a mean looking gun. Most people think its some kind of assault rifle when they see it for the 1st time. All my parts came from Greg at C.S.S. except the rear pistol grip. Overall l'm happy with the JTE brake, my gun shoots smoother, but that probably has more to do with all the added weight, and less to do with the brake.

  16. Ordering from them IS EXTREMELY HABIT FORMING! Some Might Say Downright Addictive!!! I may have to buy a new gun, just to feed my habit;-)

I have been ordering parts for my Saiga12 from them, slowly over the last 6 weeks, and from my very first order l realized that Greg from C.S.S. doesn't do business like most people out there.

HE BLOWS THEM ALL AWAY!!! :super:

5 orders later, and lm convinced Greg is a Machine! It seems as soon as your order is placed on the website, it is already in the mail! My first 3 orders only took 2 days to reach my door, granted lm just outside of Nashville, TN, and its coming from S. Carolina, but l find that truly exceptional. I tried to order parts elsewhere, and they had a 2 day processing time(WTF?), not to mention up to 7 days shipping time. AND they tried to charge $17 for shipping. I immediately cancelled and replaced that order with Greg. Which I ordered late Friday afternoon, and to my astonishment it arrived Monday morning! That is UNBELIEVABLE!!! Greg Queen you are the MAN!!! Thank you for showing us how it should be done! Anyone in the market for Saiga Parts should discover the selection & efficiency of Carolina Shooter's Supply, you will not be disappointed!
