  1. I'm on my last 30 pages now, it's a good book.

Google liveleak operation redwing and you will see the video the taliban took during the fight, as well as after. They find two of the SEALs bodies, Danny Dietz and Michael Murphy, pick through and steal their stuff, then after in a cave somewhere playing with one of their rifles and lasers and shit. It's pretty disturbing and will piss you off. I won't post it here out of respect.

  2. Hey guys, I'm heading to Officer Candidate School up in Newport, RI next Friday and I was wondering if there are any members who have been and may have some tips/pointers.

I'm nervous as hell, but excited to start this new chapter and push myself to a place I've never been.

I was in the Navy. Enlisted.

Don't think you are better or know more than the enlisted men or treat them as if they are below you just because you're an Officer. Be fair, be a leader. Stay away from girls with adams apples and big knuckles

  3. I did it for a couple years. The good pay doesnt apply in georgia thats for sure. I started at 24k a year. I graduated with the highest academic grade in training but that wasnt saying much. I'm saying the fellow cadets were not the cream of the crop. The benefits also sucked here in georgia. I ended up applying at a county got that job then got laid off. I didnt want to go straight back to the prison so I looked else where. Got back into manufacturing this time medical polymer instead of just plain old polyvinyl chloride or pvc. Well I currently make 2.5 times what I did as a CO and have GREAT benefits. I work for the largest medical device company in the world and make the raw materials for 80% of the US's absorbable sutures. Im very glad I worked as a CO to see what it was like. I enjoyed it very much but the pay was horrible. If I could make what I do now and do it id be there.

My advice to you is dont take shit form anyone but always be respectful. Treat all inmates the same. Dont do anything for one you wouldnt do for all. Dont talk about your personal life even to other COs unless your absolutely sure no inmates are around. And anyone will agree with this, after 6-8 months you'll reach a point where you start to see the light, you'll start to see them as human scum, you'll feel bad because there will be certain individuals that could die and it would make you happy to not to have to deal with them. Its not natural to feel like that about another human, if a CO Isn't going to make it, it will be at this point they quit. If you make it to this point and still are ok You'll be fine. The divorce rate is very high for COs your an asshole all day and keep your emotions all bottled up at work and either stay that way at home or drown it all in the bottle. Its stressful and you start to judge people quickly since that's required at work, because of this you start to only see the bad in people, and not just inmates.

If you are stable mentally you'll do fine. Also in Georgia, especially at the facility I was at it was not at all by the book. Ill say this its not easy for a inmate in Georgia especially one that is hostile toward staff. I've seen some fucked up shit. But I felt they all deserved what they got. And whats crazy most inmates knew if they did something to a staff member it meant an ass whooping and they were all ok with it.

I've heard similar from people who worked the job. Some people love it and some just hate it.

I've jumped through so many damn hoops just to get the job, I'm going to do my best and at least try to make it through 2 years. Who knows I may just love it and retire with it. I'm in my early 30s, not a spring chicken anymore. It's my only chance to get into "law enforcement" around here as I don't have a degree. After a few years I might be able to jump into Trooper before I'm 36. That's my goal.

I always knew I'd end up in prison!

I just have to wait until Feb to start training. In the mean time I'm going to start working out more, and stay out of trouble and try and save up some cash. Next week I have an interview at Coca-Cola as a merchandiser.

  4. LOL And now you'll be a government employee and have you own opportunities to fuck up somebody's paperwork. HA!

    Lol

    Hopefully not

Finding a good job in this economy is a real challenge.  You did great.  You can handle anything they throw at you by dealing with it one day at a time. Perseverance is the key.   Taking the initiative to contact HR and go through the hassle of getting the record straightened out demonstrated you were serious about getting that job.  It paid off.  Good for you!

Wow man thank you for the kind words

  5. Thank you everybody!

Here's a funny lil story about it.

2 weeks ago I get a letter from Corrections, a bad one . It said thanks but no thanks. I call the HR person and she informed me I didn't get the job because I had too many DUIs to close together. I told her I only had 1 from 07 and they knew about it so what's the deal...

Back in 08 me and my neighbor rode our motorcycles to the bar and parked in the handicap spot and we both got tickets, we both went to court and paid. Turns out the court fucked everything up and lumped us both together as 1 person! All my crap is on his record and all his stuff (DUI from 09) is on mine.

I spent the next week going to the Department of Transportation, The Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and my County court trying to get this all sorted out. The court realized what happened, fixed it and gave me some paperwork to prove it. I brought that to Corrections HR and they overturned their decision and offered me the job yesterday.

    What a hassle!

  6. I was caught doing 117 in a 70 in WI in 05

I was riding back from OH on my suped up hayabusa. I've ridden about 600 miles that day with a 20 pound pack on and was tired. I had my headphones in listening to music under my helmet laying on my tank just flying down the freeway. Soon people started flashing brights at me and waving. I thought man I must look really focking cool or something. I sit up and a state cop was right on my ass lights flashing. I pulled over, took the keys out and dropped them next to me on the ground.

He practically runs up, says "what the fu@k boy!" "I've been following you for five miles doing 110 plus what the hell is wrong with you?" I explained to him I was really tired and just wanted to get home blah blah blah. He said he used to own a couple bikes in his younger days and will cut me a break. Gave me an 89 in a 70 and let me go. Cost me $350 but he could have impounded my bike and yanked my DL. Nicest cop I ever met!

  7. It's been 7 years and 1 month since the MJ thing and 6 years 2 months since the careless driving, I know lots of PDs who will take someone who hasn't had any drug or drink related problems within reason within the last 5 years. Doesn't mean they will get hired because they have 20 other people who have just as good work experience but with no background problems. At the beginning they told us that they accepted 200 apps, and all those people will take the math, reading and REACT video tests( basically a what would you do sort of thing plus some counting tests ) that knocked more than half of the people out. After that comes the interviews, more people get cut. A few days after my last interview I got a call saying I made it through everything and I have the job if I can pass the background. I'm not sure how many they are hiring all together but I'm proud I made it this far.

Yesterday I just took another math and reading comp test. After that they interviewed everyone (around 40 guys 2 girls) and whoever made it through that got to take a psych test. I took the psych test with around 25 other people. They told me within 2 weeks ill get a call for a second interview if I passed the psych test.

This was for a armed nuclear security officer position. It would be a pretty cool job.

  8. -Summer 05 speeding ticket on motorcycle.

-Summer 06 misdemeanor possession. They found half a joint in my work veh coming into the US from Canada. I just said it was mine so I wouldn't have to wait over the weekend for judge. Paid fine and was gone within the hour. My company drug tested me, I passed and continued to work for them for almost 5 more years.

    - Summer 07 arrested for DUI my bac was .08, right on the legal limit. I went to court, represented myself. Judge had mercy on me and knocked it down to a Careless Driving.

-Summer 08, parking ticket. I parked my motorcycle in between handicap spaces at a bar at 0100 in the morning, NOT DRINKING. Judge threw it out just made me pay $25 court fee. ($400 ticket!)

    -Summer 2011. Speeding ticket, car

-Fall 2011 caught driving in the carpool lane, ticket

    Summer 2012- speeding ticket car

    Not too bad lol.

I did ace the tests and interviews plus I have good work experience, and references. They saw all this before inviting me to the interview. I'd say I have about a 30% chance of making it through. The job is mine if I can get past this last part

  9. Anybody work past or present as a CO for the state or county?

I've been testing and interviewing for state corrections the last 2 months and was just informed I have the job as long as I can get through the background investigation which should take 2 weeks-2 months to complete. I'm a little nervous about it as I have a few "blemishes" from 06 and 07. That's not counting my traffic tickets. I put down everything I could think of and let them know today that I will be as truthful as possible as I would really like the job. We have 10 facilities in our state and were told to pick our top 3 we would like to work at. I picked both level 5 max and 1 level 4.

I know it's kind of a thankless job, as well as dangerous and stressful but the pay is decent and the Benny's good. I need more schooling to get into LE so that's why I went the corrections route until I can

get enough credits to be eligible for LE in my state.

Anybody with any experience or insight?

  10. So let me get this straight....

A 50 yard wide rock from space that was spotted 4 or 5 months ago was supposed to do a close fly by today... And roughly the same size rock (that partially burt up entering )around 20 to 30 feet at time of explosion just happed to fly in today? And they say its unrealted?

BULLSHIT. Its the same fucking one, they just miscalculated the hit/miss probability and are trying to play it off. The odds of that got to be in the trillions.

  11. Hes starting to gain sympathy, at least on the net. Everyone who knew him said he was a kind nice guy. Served his country proudly and was a good cop who tried to do the right thing. Then he got fucked and got mad. Too bad about the one guys daughter and boyfriend but the cops got a dose of their own medicine. They interviewed the guy whos truck he stole and he said that Dornor was calm courteous and "professional" and he didnt feel Dornor would hurt him. They burned him down circ Waco 1993 and were "kinda" sure he was alone. They didnt want him talking I guess. I was 50/50 he would have come out shooting or been taken so he could tell his story.

  12. I was in the NAVY, then I lived and worked in Europe for 5 years doing various security related things for a very rich man, then back in the US I was into corporate security for the same persons companys, then he had to go and die so I worked for a Toyota dealership for 8 months now I make pretty good money overcharging oil companys service on their fleet trucks. Next year Im going to start EMT training.
