I have one of those surplus grenade sights that I'd like to fashion a mounting bracket for. It would be interesting to find out what the long-range ballistics of certain shotgun slugs really are

Deepdiver is the only one I have heard having problems. I had the opportunity to talk with him in person, but haven't had the time to take a gander at it--I'm kinda curious, as I haven't had the luxury of handling one, yet...

You may have to make your own...

So it would seem...

I'm not a combat veteran (My hat's off to those who are). Merely a Cold War participant. However, I do read and recognize the utility of hanging a flashlight on the end of a longarm. Unlike a building clearing operation (MOUT), I have to be accountable for every shot I fire. I also don't want a case of "friendly fire" on one of my family members. It is vastly better to shine a flashlight in their eyes than a lead lobotomy...

I just wish these POS Saigas would start showing up used and cheap cause they don't work, I'll buy them all!
+1. If he's going to pass, pass it this way (Darn, I don't had the $$ right now. Maybe he'll pass it this way anyway )

It would be less expensive to fabricate a grenade cup for throwing smoke/tear gas and use 12 ga. blanks.

Not quite a necrothread, you would want to check you state regs regarding fireworks mfg. It's frowned on in WA st.

You'll need a license to manufacture Destructive Devices if you intend to make 12ga. explosive rounds. This is because the projectile is more than .50" diameter (.73"). The cost in '01 was $3000 for the first year and $1000 per year thereafter. I didn't pursue this kind of thing for this reason.

IWI 12 gauge flare would probably get the job done and you could carry many more in the same space...

I have a 16oz C&H mercury recoil compensator. (google it. ~35 from the manufacturer. Benelli's comparable tube costs an extra $200) I also have a kick eez recoil pad. The combination works pretty well. Its hard to say how much more effective the mercury tube is than just adding weight. I can't compare it to the others listed above, but I have been satisfied with this combo.
Sadly, I just switched to Bulgarian furniture, and neither of the components I have will fit without modification. I am looking for a solution now. Likely I will grind a kick eez to fit, and bore out the cleaning kit cavity to fit my large diameter reciol tube. (you can order them in smaller diameters, and they would fit without alterations)
If get lazy, I may just try out one of these ~$10 on ebay.
I would buy it from a vendor if they would sell them. Anybody tried one? It looks much cleaner than the grendade pad. I think I would rather use a kick-eez or limbsavr slip on than the grenade pad. That thing is ugly, and the name brand ones are both very effective. The libsavr slip on is around $20 at wall mart so that's the same as the AK grenade pad when you factor shipping.
It looks like the recoil pad that was sold for use with the SKS. The hole in the middle is for getting to the cleaning gear pocket.

According to thefeedback on this forum, stay away from the Alliance Armament 20 rnd drums.

Would it be possible to mill away the forward six or so inches and fabricate a new section and attach it via threading or welds or both using a more appropriate steel?

Better a Friday-gun than a Monday-gun, unless they started the weekend early

OP -- nice avatar you have there, good find.

IWI you shouldn't have any binding problems at all, given where you put the block.

Where I'm at, one of the local dealers says he's heard no complaints about them, even after I brought up what I'd heard here on the forum. I wonder if this is because the pucks are supposedly taken care of directly through ETac.

Hope ya like lotsa rain!

For clarification, if your are referring to the piece riveted in the rear of the receiver, it is called the rear trunnion. Hope this helps.

If I'm not mistaken, the Saiga 223 uses Kalashnikov style rock-and-lock magazines as opposed to the drop-free AR style mags. If that's the case you'll need a magwell conversion. You'll also need (you mentioned a PG conversion) a US made FCG, both for functionality and 922R compliance. If you haven't already looked at them, check out the conversion tutorials/videos on the subject. They were most helpful when I converted my S-12, which, for all intents and purposes, have the same internals. This weapon family is easily worked on. Have fun and welcom the the forum!!

I purchased my S12 yesterday and have similar questions. So far, I have ordered a US made 10 round mag and a blackjack buffer. Here's a photo of my new rifle. I bought it for $729 at a store in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I guess I paid maybe $100 more than the best online prices but it was nice to buy f2f and shoot it at their range.
It appears you have a flash hider attached. Question: Is this a US made part? If not, don't use the 10 round magazine until you have another major (see 922R list) part that is US made swapped for the foreign made part. On the main menu, if you haven't already seen it, is the 922R section that wil explain in more detail what you need to accomplish. BTW, welcome to the forum!!
Right now I'd like to get a pistol grip, recoil reducing stock, and rail to mount a red dot. Maybe a JTE COMPETITION BRAKE? I guess I should replace the gas adjustment plug?
I'm new I'm new to the Saiga/AK world so suggestions are welcome as to the best available options.
Did you get it from silver bullet?
I sure did!
I noticed your S12 has what appears to be a threaded muzzle (with a flash hider(?) attached). If this is the case
