  1. i went back and forth for almost a month on this very decision. Ultimately I decided to go with the CTR only because of my familiarity with it and my worry that the Tromix may be too long for me (I'm only 5'8") and I wouldn't be able to adjust it. I would love to see a tromix stock up close though to try out. If it fit me, I would definitely get one.

  2. New Frontier Armory also has 6 in stock for $686 each. Looks like they're coming back in stock here and there but prices seem to all start at nearly $700 now. Glad I got mine from K-VAR for $489 before the prices went up. In my opinion, which is of little consequence, people need to stop being so hard on the shops who raised their prices here. The distributors are the ones who raised prices on them and they're merely trying to get some on the shelves for us. CSS, which is one of my favorites and who I also trust, said so themselves. Just the way things are unfortunately until this all settles out. If things somehow turn for the worst some of you will be kicking yourselfs for not picking one up at $700, much more so than the regret of possibly overpaying $200 if everything comes back down.

  3. Anyone else notice kvar says call for pricing on their website now? Regardless, no point in venders selling below current market value as they'll most likely be bought up and resold for profit on places like gunbroker. People were given a lot of warning this would happen as well. There was plenty if time to get them for just under $500 for those that paid attention. Now the 030s being sold by Red Dragun are looking like an even better deal than they already were every day. Can't wait to get mine

  4. This is an anti gun article from the fruit loop mother ship, the Huffington Report. I gagged in my mouth a little reading Bloomberg stating "Our coalition strongly believes in the Second Amendment." I still don't know why he and his buddies aren't in jail for all those illegal straw purchase "stings" they love to do.

Thanks. I know nothing of Huffington as I have never read it before this. Guess I should have known better since I didn't see it collaborated by any major news source I was familiar with. Mods can delete if its just crack pot/inaccurate news and apologies for adding to the already unwanted drama.

  5. Just read this today. Apologies in advance if I'm missing something/off base (if dupe please delete)

Supposedly they will be using some of the following info as a basis for it. Read page 35-36 for what concerns me most (talk of importation, ak47 style weapons, and 12 gauge used in crime)

I was getting confident that the Saiga was safe but this is making me wary again when you combine it with the ATF study.

  6. I have owned or currently own nearly every AR manufacturer out there. This is my opinion based on my experience and those around me:

High end but expensive: Noveske, KAC (my personal favorite), and LaRue

Outstanding quality/value: Colt, BCM (probably the best overall value), Daniel Defense, Spikes, LMT

Overpriced considering other options but fine: RRA, Stag, Bushmaster

Junk (when you consider they cost the same as Spikes): DPMS, OLY, Blackthorne

There are of course other companies out there but this covers most of them. Didn't include any piston versions as I believe they give no real benefit in the AR world from my experience but to each their own. If I was going to buy one though it would either be LMT or LWRC.

  7. First off....the VEPR-12 is NOT importable due to it not being on the the VRA list while VEPR RIFLES are. Secondly I have played with VEPR-12s and to me the handguards feel like toy plastic and the stock isn't my favorite either, but like an ACE folder. You can try the a close copy of the Molot pistol grip from MD Arms...I think you will like it.

TX-Zen posted a photo of the Saiga-12 ver. 030 as imported, so I'll post one converted after importation:

Thanks for making my patience level just go down a little more 009.gifbiggrin.gif

  8. I haven't seen any in stock since K-VAR and CSS sold out recently. Looks like the only place is gunbroker but prices are going up very fast now. You could also try calling Machine Gun Tours here in Colorado. Awesome shop and my go-to place here. Last time I was there (a couple days ago) they had some standard and converted ones in stock. Didn't check the price though as I already own what I want. They generally have very good prices though.

  9. I'm just going off what all our dealers and distributers have been advising us around here. Apparently both Izhmash and the ATF aren't being straight up and there's a whole lot of hipe because of this. Regardless the fact is there are two S12s for sale if someone wants them. I didn't start this trend to rehash last month's biggest topic on nearly every gun forum. These are here now and I'm just looking to sell them. The document came with the guns, they just give a breakdown on the firearm, it's modifications and a paragraph about the importance of staying 922r compliant maybe its a new thing.

So can we start over :)......

WTS 2 converted Saiga 12 shotguns to the right buyer. Shipping included and must go through an FFL if outside of Oregon.

Thanks and good idea. Nice looking Saigas you got there. .

  10. Now to the good-ol ATF. There is no FINAL RULING. But if you wait for that you'd be waiting to find out, you're out of luck. As you well know the ATF has banned the importation of them, so what was already in-country two months ago was it, no more. Their "ruling" was they don't want these things in our hands. So by banning the importation they have effectively stopped the commerce of any future S12s and bought time to draft a Bill. Give it a few more months and they will gain the support they need to pass a Bill making these a no go for citizens. That means the only way to sell them from that time on is to GOV and only GOV can buy.

The ATF hasn't banned these from importation. Where did you get that? Cite your sources.

This. So far the only person I've heard that met with the ATF about this (Brian from Red Dragun who's importing the model 030 shortly) said that's he's confident that they are safe in their sporting configuration but they told him the 030 will not be once he gets the 200 they already approved in. There is nothing in there study that shows they are trying to ban sporterized Saigas, only speculation from what I've seen. If you're so sure about this please tell us your reasoning behind it.

  11. K-VAR while sold out now usually gets them in every week and are the cheapest I've found recently. Other than that you either need to get lucky and find a local shop that has one in for a good price or pay the premium to have one now on gunbroker.

  12. Wow, that's one huge ass scope on his AR! Looks like you guys had fun though. Nice that you're wife enjoys shooting with you, it took some convincing with my wife as she's a city girl but loves it now. Started her off on .22s but now she prefers my AK over all the others because of its "kick"...lol

  13. If I didn't own one I'd probably pick one up from K-Var for $589 as it's only $100 more than it used to be. Not terrible to guarantee to get a gun you want. However I already own what I want at the old prices and will only buy another if they go back down to the $450 range. To be honest though, I'm getting more and more confident that the Saiga 12 is not only safe but that we will see pistol grip versions in the next year or so. This is due to the confidence of Brian from Red Dragun after meeting with the ATF, and the studies finding that pistol grips are in fact "sporting" according to their definition.

  14. These delusional "I'm special/better than everybody else" tirades he's going on right now will just be clips that will be shown in the near future on how far gone he was before he died. He's putting the writing on the wall and he won't be here much longer like so many before him. Sad that some people end up like this when the can't handle the money, women, power, etc. Even more sad to know how this will affect his children and those who loved him.

  15. Look at K-VAR instead. In stock right now for $589 and they get more in stock every week. Although shipping can be a little pricey it's still cheaper than anywhere else and you save by not having to pay taxes on it.

  16. I don't get it. Someone post about a shop having them for $589 and everyone freaks out and buys them up but K-VAR has had tons of them come in every week for the same price or less. They still have plenty in stock right now yet people are paying $700 + locally and on gunbroker.

  17. As far as there being room for the buttstock catch up by the front trunion...I spoke with Mario over at Piece of History Firearms (POHF) and there is room. POHF did the poly side folder install for Red Dragun on the first one they got in for a sample and their shop was recommended to me by Brian (owner of Red Dragun) when I spoke with him over the phone while placing my order for the shotgun.

I'm sure anyone of our smiths could do it, but I liked the price and availability that POHF offers me.

As far as trigger guard I'm going with the one from AK Builder that Lokmeup posted earlier on this page along with the selector stop. I'm having POHF do the conversion with one of MD Arms Molot grips until I can get a legit one here as well as filling the old holes, refinishing and putting the left side poly-folder on that I picked up from K-Var a couple months ago. FYI, POHF is in contact with AK Builder to get authentic reinforcement plates made and he's not sure if they will be available for sale through AK Builder's website or if POHF will be getting all of them.

My .02 based on info from the guy who's importing them and the smith who's done work on one already.

    Eric

Thanks for the info. I want my to be as close as possible to the original configuration. Since they're already in contact with Red Dragun and have experience with one it looks like I'll be sending mine there as well.

  18. In my conversation with Brian from RedDragunWeapons about his up coming shipment of Saiga 12s EXP-01-030's, he described his sit down conversation with ATF agents regarding the Saiga 12.

    According to the conversation:

    • The picitinny rail on the bottom of the front gas block on the 200 Saiga 12s EXP-01-030 he is importing is NOT FOR SPORTING USE.
    • They will allow the current 200 on order into the states, as they were already approved for import.
    • Future Saiga 12's will not be allowed to have the lower picitinny rail
    • Pistol grips may possible be imported in the future, as pistol grips have been deemed FOR SPORTING USE.

From his conversation, it DID NOT seem like they were going to be taking away our precious S12's... but actually allow the importation of FULL PISTOL GRIP VERSIONS...

    Only time will tell.

Although their list of "non-sporting" features are ridiculous, the last point above would be fantastic news. Instead of banning them, we would be getting them in much closer to the configuration we all go for anyway. I'd be pleasantly shocked if it happened. Wonder how far prices of un-converted saigas would go down if this became the case. All the people buying them at $700+ right now may be pretty pissed. I'd gladly lose money on some of my guns for more freedom/diversity in what we are allowed to own though.

  19. I wonder if those Russian made 8 rounders that that one site sells will operate the LRBHO

The ones that are made for the magwell DO!

I thought the Russian LRBHO was a relitivly new thing, or did they just make a system to work with their stock mags?

The Russians have been running the LRBHO for well over a year. The start of 2010 production IIRC.

Actually the Saiga-12 ver. 030 as well as the VEPR-12 have been using the LRBHO for years.

Any chance of getting any VEPR-12s in the future as well? Yes I now it's highly unrealistic but I can dream right? biggrin.gif
