Thanks for the replies. I was thinking that since the Saiga HG was designed for 'sporting' purposes, it might not be as good as the AK polymer HGs with the heat shields.

For those who keep the original handguard on their Saiga: does it ever get too hot to handle if you shoot a lot of rounds?

Thanks for the answers. So, it shouldn't be too hard to find one with dimples, cool. I can't wait to get a 5.45! Seems like folks are snapping them up pretty quick though; wish I had my tax return already!

Hey all, I've been reading lots of threads here and I'm sold on getting a 5.45 Saiga. I got to go shooting recently with a friend and I hadn't gone shooting in a loooong time. (not since the ex-BF took me) Well I guess I forgot how much the AK-47 kicks b/c after a few rounds downrange my shoulder was hurting. (stupid metal buttplate) After that, I just shot his M-4, which I liked, since it has almost no recoil. But he says in case of SHTF he's grabbing one of his AKs.
