  1. I can't disagree with any of these reviews. It is expensive but a little bit goes a long way. I've only tried the liquid but I heat everything up with a lamp or heat gun, then apply with a very small paintbrush. On certain moving/friction parts I leave a very light coating and everything so far runs smooth as silk. (PS: I neither sell nor am I affiliated with this company) When I got this stuff i also got a bunch of bore snakes. Between those two additions, it makes CLP'ing much easier and more effective. I've also put it on wood and polymer and wasn't sorry I did.

  2. WilliamBanzai7 is incredibly talented and funny. ZH is mainly a financial site styled after the movie "Fight Club", sometimes very technical, but always with biting sarcasm. I like it because they manage to check the left/right politics crap at the door. It's like the ultimate anti-social network. A few years ago there was no up/down vote option on the comments. There was just a "junk" button. Some of the comments are hilarious and it's practically impossible to get kicked off. Plus...there is a lot of talk lately about...guns! Molon labe bitchez!

  3. I really like the stuff. I followed the instructions and removed the existing petroleum lubricants with denatured alcohol. Then I used a heat gun to get everything hot and applied the Froglube (liquid) with a paint brush. Wiped everything clean and repeated the process. Just a couple of pulls with the bore snake and they've never been cleaner. It leaves everything with an odd slippery feel. Plus, it won't ruin your clothing so the bore snakes can go right in the washing machine. Faded receiver covers etc. are now a nice shiny black. @ 17 bucks for a 4 .oz bottle they certainly don't give it away but I've done 4 firearms so far and used ~ 20 percent of the bottle. The smell of Rem-oil, Hoppes, etc. doesn't really bother me but the minty fresh smell is better. I tested it out on a very old bowie style knife and was amazed at how much cleaner it got with the Froglube.

  4. Maybe try this before bending or grinding. Let the main spring button go in the receiver cover hole a little before pushing it forward. Then give it a firm "moscow tap" straight down. There is a trick to it and it takes a little practice. I love hearing it snap in to place. It was on there before right? Don't get frustrated; if you don't get it on tonight just do it tomorrow.

  5. 14 - 4 (FCG, buttstock) = 922r compliant without the magazine

This form is helpful. Like I say, I won't pretend to be an expert but it's important to get it right. I know some who ignore 922R entirely but they are responsible for themselves. Just select "Saiga Rifle" at the top, then select the origin of manufacture of the applicable parts. I noticed something just now on this form - the Saiga Rifle defaults to having a pistol grip. I've never seen a Saiga Sporter from the factory with a pistol grip. So, I believe one would have to de-select the pg from the checklist in order to be accurate.

  6. It looks like you are good to go with SGM mags. I hate stating anything as "authorative" when it comes to 922R or any laws because (1) I'm not a lawyer and (2) it would not be cool if someone listened to me and got in trouble. Maybe it's just an excuse to buy things...LOL...but I make mine all compliant without counting mag parts.

  7. Anybody else get one of these census surveys? It's sent to my address only. No name. I didn't fill it out and now they're calling telling me a census taker will come to the house. They already have all of this info from our tax returns. Another invasion of privacy and waste of taxpayers money in my book. George Orwell was right.

I found this little survey and clicked "no". I'd rather pay the $100 fine they threaten for not filling it out. Perhaps I'm over-reacting...but this shit pisses me right off.

  8. Undertoad - thanks for the thoughtful reply. I've chickened out on that project for a while. If I was a rich guy I might get another Saiga and start the under-folder right out of the gate. When you're done you are going to have a beauty there. Each time I use my Yugo I am more impressed, but that's just me. It looks and feels heavy duty. Classic has a few polymer jobs now with some accessories thrown in for ~ 620 bucks. I got mine from a local shop here for right around that price but I did get to inspect it and he also threw in some extras. (If I remember right he had four of them and they were gone in a week) Mine has the wood furniture, reinforced "mumps", no canted sights, etc. From what I've gathered so far, everything on the Yugo was built heavier due to the extra stress of the built in grenade launcher.

It IS heavy...especially with a 40 rounder hanging out of the bottom. I'll be taking it over to the range next week to test out a few of the new keepshooting teflon mags. The thing looks plain bad to the bone...and gets lots of attention at the range. (Yours will definately be an eye-catcher) Plus, it does a job on a pie plate at 100, and that's all I ask it to do.

  9. He did register here and ask for input and I assume by now has talked to someone by phone. None of this would be required to write a "hit-piece". And, the fact is that the article submitted to an editor is not always the same article that makes it to print. Selective editing and deletions can change how any written piece reads. Also anything Andrew submits could become part of a larger article or series of articles.

It's not Andrew's intentions I have apprehensions about, it is the intention of his publisher and it's not just overall MSM paranoia, it's the track record of this specific publication. I guess we'll see.

I don't disagree. This could also be in response to all the people who are buying firearms these days. I know quite a few people who, not too long ago, would not even consider buying one. "The times they are a chang-in"?

  10. The "Grey Lady" has not had much to say about guns in it's history except "they are bad".

My apprehension exactly. I didn't want to throw a wet blanket on the thread though.

A lot of honest input has been given here in good faith, I just hope the article is fair and objective.

I hear ya. I'm not casting aspersions on the author of the OP. There is a writer who sits in Russia and works for NYT. If the OP person is not a poseur and is the NYT person he is aware that NYT will never be confused with the PR arm of NRA.

He would also know that if he wrote a piece on the merits of Saiga and impact on Russian economy etc. the editors might turn it into a hit-piece about fringe crazies that abuse 922R to create terrible "assault rifles".

  11. The ammo means nothing without mags to put it in. Any good deals on 223 anywhere? I'd rather get killed sitting on too much ammo than killed while curled up crying because I was to stoopid to keep more than a 22 and a 10 round magazine around. Most civilians like me don't have the luxury of knowing that in a day or two or a week or a month from now a c-130 or Chinook is gonna do a low and slow over my house and shit out a pallet of rations and ammo. I may die early on if something happens but that certainly doesn't mean I wont plan for a long term.

K-Var has a special going on Circle 10's right now for the holiday. My favorite.
