Thanks for the recipe. One of my favorite Tex-Mex places put dice onions in the cheese. Melting the cheese blanches the onions, so it's not sharp like raw onion, but not cooked to death either. Better than plain cheese. They went out of business, and I started making my own.

Yep, some onion is nice, try adding some spiced hamburger too, or chorizo, or , or, or.

All sorts of tastiness can be stuffed into these delicacies.

Try it sometime stuffed with Picadillo...  Yummy!

Yup, that's where I'm experimenting. To me, there is something I like about chilie rellenos, how light they are because of plain cheese and a hint of onion, so the pepper comes through loud and clear. Meat and other goodness heavies them up too much for me, at which time I'd rather have a chimichanga or enchilada!

  2. OP, 1st post...welcome to the forum.

Before cutting, drilling, grinding, or doing any other irreversible act on parts that cannot be replaced, put down the S12, pick up your laptop, and spend a month rooting around this site learning about this platform. There is lots of good advice, but beware of a few baaaaad ideas. I did that when I was an S12 noob, and now, between my friends and me, we have four S12's that function flawlessly with everything from low power skeet loads up through 1 1/4 oz Federal magnum slugs.

  3. All of the energy released when 3 drams of powder is touched off behind a 1 1/4 oz. slug is exactly the same no matter what hardware is bolted behind it. The shock system spreads that pulse of energy out over a longer period of time. A solid system sends that impulse to your shoulder instantly, whereas the shock system's spring gets compressed, delivering the same total amount of energy to your shoulder over a longer period of time. That's the key. I paid attention in physics classes and know that the area under the curve, with force on the vertical axis and time on the horizontal axis, representing the total amount of energy delivered, remains the same. As you lengthen the time during which that fixed amount of energy is delivered, and the area under the curve (total amount of energy) remains the same, the maximum amplitude must be reduced. Our shoulders still receive the full recoil, though over a longer period of time, and lower amplitude.

Look at the 20 gallons of fuel in your car's gas tank. Release that energy slowly and you gently push your car 400 miles at maybe 60 MPH. Release all 20 gallons of energy instantly, and you wouldn't want to be anywhere near the car. Same amount of energy released, but doing so over increased time makes all the difference.

  4. I found that "thing" works quite well. Without it, after shooting five or six of the 3" Federal 1 1/4 oz. magnum slugs, I'm done. It's no fun shooting any more than that. With the shot shock or Kynshot, OTOH, I recently fired 80 rounds of 3" Federal 1 1/4 oz. magnum slugs, and only quit because I was out of ammo. On another occasion, I fired 35 rounds. The damper makes one hell of a difference, so much so, I put them on all my Saigas, and my 870. Other than optics, they're one of the best accessories I've ever mounted on a firearm.

  5.

...and if we're rolling in 5 to 8 footers, I just want to get some lead on target.

Relax and shoot rifles like shotguns. Keep loose and roll with the boat, and deliberately swing through your target. Break the trigger any time the sights line up. You'll do better than you expect.  It will ruin you for precision land shooting though-- or at least that's my excuse.

That's a heck of an idea...and pretty much how I shoot long range rifle off-hand. I learned I just cannot hold steady on target, and developed technique of breaking as I swung through the target. Works remarkably well. From watching the Military Channel or AHC, IIRC, that's how the gun on the M1 Abrams works when firing while on the move. The barrel cannot be stopped from bobbing around, so the round it sent when the barrel is swinging through the target.

  6. Interresting. I have thought about DDupex for similar things, but less seriously.

There are plenty of rifles which would far out penetrate shotgun slugs though.

On our boat, one of the favorite products was this stuff: http://learchem.com/products/corrosion-block.html I won't claim "best' or anything, but really good at freeing up really crusty nasty stuff.

Our boat guns were actively used for pest control and abused/neglected severely. They were constantly out in salt spray, and acidic fish blood, rarely maintained. SS was a must, and frankly very few SS firearms held up. Our winchester 1300 SS "Police Marine Magnum" more or less turned to green powder. Rugers are more truly SS than most, so my dad is a diehard client of theirs. Your way would probably be a good solution if you are thinking about defending from modern piracy and the like though. Have a knife in a sheath taped to the ziploc so you can have the firearm out in a fast swipe.... Silica gel desiccant can be bought cheaply as "crystal" cat litter. It might be worth making a few bags of that to put in your gun bags too. I made some of those using the bottom of old pants, and they are great. I keep some in my car in winter, my gun safe, and in my ammo cans.

Rifles, yup, but a few licensed captain friends advised that citizens will generally loose to well-armed bad guys who's profession is to kill us and take the boat. They said we want the bad guys to see, from a distance, that we are well armed. Rather than attack and risk injury themselves, they'll wait for another, less formidable "fish" in the sea to go after. That's why we chose the Saiga, because with a 12 round SGM mad and the big CSS muzzle brake, it looks impressive from a distance, and may better dissuade the bad guys from trying. Well, that and, with the MD Arms 20 round drum, you can spread quite a bit of buckshot if things get close.

ETA: Oh yeah, Corrosion Block is an old friend. Can't forget to shoot it into keyholes, hinges, and so on.

  7. I am pretty sure you can get hotter slugs than that. Additional barrel length past 12" has very rapidly diminishing returns for increased velocity. Typically ammo is maybe 50 FPS faster out of a 24" barrel than an 18", but some very slow powders might be as high as 200 FPS faster. Very few people are shooting true 3" max loads.... If you really want more energy at the muzzle, buying or making true max loads is going to be more effective. Use something with a slow powder.

Aren't you concerned about corrosion with an S12 on a boat?

Thanks GF for trying to up my game. We're still looking at ammo choices, including the DDUPLEX mag rounds since they're steel, not lead, and I presume as a result will deliver more instantaneous energy to bust fiberglass or crack cast iron than lead would, which deforms more readily, delivering its energy a bit more slowly. Regarding corrosion, we have it in huge Ziploc bags (I have some up to 20 gallon size) with silica gel. I thought about vacuum sealing them, but if there's a breach in the plastic, the vacuum is lost sucking in sea air, which is the wrong thing to do. I guess ideally, the container would be filled with compressed dry nitrogen, but that's beyond me!

  8.

I found my IZ-107 pretty easily a few years ago. The box was not sealed in plastic. I think that would be the hardest to find. Don't think any actually come wrapped in plastic. Inside the firearm was in a plastic bag but not sealed. Might be worth something to a collector in a few decades, but probably more just another blaster.

My two cents.Oh and... It wasn't a great deal. I paid for what I wanted... $700.

Thanks for your help. How many gas holes are in the barrel on your 24 inch barrel? What do you think are the positives of the 24 over other length barrels? What shells would you recommend to use with the gun?

    Thanks for your help!

I got my 2009 production 24" NIB and it has two gas holes. I went with the 24" over the 19" because I wanted a bit more velocity with slugs, since it's used as a boat defense firearm. We were looking for every ft/lb of energy we could get. It's loaded with 11/4 oz Federal magnum slugs.

  9. Here is some advice. Mike Rogers covered much of it but be advised if you have not interacted with Chinese custom and I am not talking US Chinese, know this;

Be very polite as the Chinese feel losing face is the worst situation possible. Always act humble and very appreciative. This will gain you points. You as a round eye, will stick out like a sore thumb. Do not eat foods off the street as you will see things available to eat that you have no idea what it is or even existed outside of a sci-fi movie. "Sanitary" is not a word in the Chinese vocabulary and keep in mind it is a communist country. The govt. is god. Go astray of that and you will have an unpleasant experience. Rights, Constitution all the liberal PC shit here is totally non existent there. They have ZERO compunction about beating your ass senseless if you press them, or give them cause, believe me. I lived in Taiwan which is China lite (not communist) but China none the less. They used to have these guys in full BDUs that wore chrome helmets and patrolled the city. These were some dudes NOT to be facked with. They were stone face, hard core, serious customers. I loved it there but you could go ten minutes out of the city and instantly be in the Middle Ages. Oh, and the Chinese LOVE cigarettes. I cannot comment on the nightlife/ bar scene.

Never the less go and have a good time. Check out the sights and local industry/ historical things. If you are interested in that sort of thing. It's very different and remember, there are seven Chinese for every other single person on the planet.

Ah, memories. I came across several of these guys that were holding their M-16's with their fingers inside the trigger guards. Yeah, I put the camera down and put a masonry wall between me and them ASAP. IIRC, over there, barber poles don't mean what they do over there. In Taipei, try to make it to Snake Alley!

  10. For those that display our flag, please do it properly. It should be displayed at half-staff until noon, then full staff until sunset, unless you properly illuminate it and fly it full time. For those that do, that would be half staff midnite- noon, full staff noon- midnite.

    More info here: http://www.ehow.com/way_5398459_memorial-day-flag-etiquette.html

...and if you fly the flag from a staff that does not permit the flag to be lowered, you can tie a strip of black ribbon to the staff above the flag, which symbolizes flying the flag at half staff.

Just shaking my head about the thread over at the files.  Sam decided to respond to some of the bitching.

2 interesting points from the post:

More GT will be available shortly (but won't last long).

SGA only makes $15 a case on GT (I assume it's similar for other ammos).  Now don't get me wrong, that still makes a nice profit on 3,000 cases.  But they could sell it for $15 a case more and DOUBLE their profit.  And I know I would still buy if it was $15 more.  Most would, so that makes it obvious he's keeping his prices low because he wants to treat his customers well.

And for those bitching they didn't release more half-cases, that's a lot more work breaking up cases and repacking and they don't charge a dime more per round so that's extra work for nothing as far as SGA is concerned.  If I was them I'd charge more for half-cases so I'd get paid for the extra work.  Nobody should work for free.

Anyway don't take my sponsorship of AR15 so personally, i never realized that there were so many people here that would find that offensive, I have many friends on AKfiles as well, but not my own forum and not a lot of time to post all that info everywhere so I made the post there. Anymore with all the pain I have in my finger tips for typing I try to keep my post confined to that one forum, as it has got to the point where every key stroke is painful from carpal tunnel syndrome. If anyone wants to keep up with what i am doing that would be the place to look. If it makes any difference to you AK's are my gun of choice, not AR's, but I got started at AR15 because it was the forum that people were talking about at the gun shows most regularly so it was a logical place to advertise, and anyway there are not secrets on the internet and the info posted there propagates

Also, cost of GT is the same as always, the ruble does not effect things because the contracts are done in US dollars, if anyone is seeing a boost it is the factory that may get to make some payments in rubles but that does not pay off for the importer or me. I make a net profit of about $15 a case on this stuff after merchant fees, labor and packaging material expense is paid. I could have charged more, but I am a rich enough guy already and not greedy, some things are worth more than money like the loyalty of my good customers. As long as I think I can get the same product or something similar I like to work cheap and make money off doing high volume, keeping prices down and hopefully my customers coming back for more.

As far as the 3 case limit on the last 1000 cases being lame, would it be better that I just sell it all to 3 or 4 people? Because I have them on standby if needed, buyers looking for 100, 200 , 400 cases with funds in hand. I have turned them away on this because I wanted to spread out the inventory to a larger number of clients in the consumer market.

I hope to get caught up on shipping after working this Sunday and on this coming Monday, then release what inventory I have left Monday night or Tuesday.

Best wishes to my friends on AK files, I will not be back for a while but don't take it personally, just remember I have worn out fingertips, a wife, 3 boys and a business to run so I can't spend all my time on forums, not that there is anything wrong with it for those that do. - SG

All GT at SGAmmo is OOS. I noticed that the 1,000 round price has gone from $234.95 to $249.95 going forward. Still a very fair price! I paid $234.95 when I first bought GT nearly three years ago. Anything else hold the line for three years, especially ammo?

Thanks for the quote, Darth. It is clear to me that Sam has spread his risk by having LOTS of loyal customers, like me, rather than sell all his inventory to a few fat cats who have no loyalty at all...other than to play one vendor off the other. SGAmmo is my first choice source, period.

  12. I'm "represented" by communists, writing and calling them gets back nothing more than a template responce on how they are committed to ban all guns.

Me, too. Still keep pushing. Even if he/she is, on a 10 point scale, rates a nine when it comes to bans, you, your family, and friends all together may dial him/her back to an eight. Every little bit helps. Never quit!
