  1. Hi, I recently purchased a Saiga .223 and have been using it and, as expected, the gas chamber is getting dirty. I clean the piston regularly, but I have a couple of questions about the gas chamber itself: 1) How concerned should I be with the gas chamber getting dirty from use? 2) How should I clean out the gas chamber? Is it a bad idea to use a brush? Thanks so much! -Atoz
  2. Thanks everyone! I was able to find one online and had it transferred through an FFL I have used before.
  3. Hi All, I'm looking to buy a SAIGA .223 in upstate New York and live in Saratoga County. Do any of you know of any gun shops that carry SAIGA .223's? Thanks, Jeff
  4. Only if you convert them like I did , as you can see in my pics I replaced the front sight base and gas block with the military version which have the bayonet lugs. Just grind down the wings and you're good. Thanks Man. And you are in NYS? Did you buy your Saiga in NY (JW)?
  5. Why is it that certain ak's and variants (eg poly technologies) are explicitly outlawed under NYS assault weapon ban, but the izmach is not explicitly outlawed by name? What is the design difference?
  6. Hi everyone, I just wanted to share a problem I had with TulAmmo recently in case any of you were considering purchasing it. I was in WalMart today to buy some .223 on my way to the range. They were sold out of everything except TulAmmo, so I bought a couple boxes to use in my Saiga .223. The ammo was so weak that it did not generate enough energy to reload the weapon and I had to manually reload every time. I went out and got some more expensive ammo and it worked fine. Summary: TulAmmo is very cheap, but it is also VERY weak.
  7. If you have a firearm with a rear pistol grip, then can you add a second forward pistol grip without violating the assault weapon ban? Thank you. -Atoz
  8. You said that you needed to grind down the wings on the bayonet lugs, but the Saiga .223 does not have a bayonet mount, right?
  9. Hi, I have always just used brand name, American ammunition (e.g. Remington) in my Saiga .223, but I am looking to save some money since ammunition is getting pricey. I noticed the Russian Brown Bear ammo is very inexpensive, and I wanted to hear about what others have heard about it and experienced with it. How reliable, accurate, corrosive, etc. has it been for you and/or others you have heard about? Is Brown Bear safe to use? In general, what are the disadvantages? Why is it so cheap? Thank you very much for your time and advice! -Atoz
  10. Hi all, My topic title pretty much says it all. Based on my interpretation of the law, the answer should be yes, as long as it does not qualify as an assault weapon (no bayonette lug, flash suppressor, high capacity mag etc...) and complies with 922r. However, there is a section in the NY state law that says: "Any of the weapons, or functioning frames or receivers of such weapons, or copies or duplicates of such weapons, in any caliber, known as: Norinco, Mitchell, and Poly Technologies Avtomat Kalashnikovs (All Models)...." and the list goes on. But Saiga's are mad
