  1. Hey all, I just moved to Florida with a friend in the Port St. John area ear Cocoa Beach. Could anyone recommend any good ranges around? I realize that the state is pretty crowded and there might not be any longer range shooting areas, but if there is I'd love to try it out.

  2. I enjoy mine as well, nothing like hitting a 1 foot round steel plate at 300 yrds.

I agree completely. Shooting paper is nice and all, but hearing that register of metal on metal with a second delay in the sound is SO much better. I welded 3 swinging 12" plates in 1/2 inch steel and always set them up on the range. Other people at the range only bring paper and when I put up my steel gongs I can see the jealousy in their faces. Then I become the awesome nice guy and allow them to hit my plates if they want. So long as it ain't bigger then my 308.

I originally got into Saigas for the 12, but got intrigued with the 308. After converting my 308, it became my favorite immediately. I was hitting steel out at 100yards 100% with the iron sights and not understanding how I had never been able to do this before and how I suddenly could now. It looks awesome, and I shoot it better than any other long gun I have ever tried now.

I hear so much flak about AK style sights, but personally I love them and the irons especially on the 308 are spot on. Maybe cause I'm still young and have good eyes, maybe I'll change my mind in 20 years.

  3. Hey all, I don't post too often but I couldn't hold it in any longer. I love these damn Saigas! I joined the Saiga cult at a local gun show when I purchased an unconverted Saiga 12 gauge last summer. Since converting it and customizing, I used it to go deer hunting and took two nice sized does. After that, I had to have another Saige type rifle!

I set my eyes on a Saiga 308 and pulled the trigger on a 21" for $550 on gunbroker. I always liked the Dragunov marksman rifle and decided to dress my new rifle like it, a "Saiganov" if I may.

Shes getting there. She has an Arsenal 2-stage trigger from Dinzag, Black Horse Arsenal SVD style buttstock, VariPOSP 4-10x scope, Versa-pod detachable bipod with mini-14 adapter, and JTE performance hammer spring. I only wish there was an available way to fix a dragunov style handguard. I want to make her feel pretty. I also plan to thread the barrel at some point.

I took her to the range today, to try out some new 168gr. Federal Gold Match bullets that I have read on this forum do pretty well. I sighted it in at 100 yards, then moved it up to 200, and lastly 300. I didn't take any pictures of the first 2, there was just too many holes in them and I didn't have enough time to re-staple some new targets. I usually shoot 150gr. Tula steel cased ammo out of it, and the groupings are actually about the same. I can usually get about 1"-1.5" if I take my time and use sandbags at 100 yards. I am quite content with that.

  4. I just started converting my Saiga 308 22" barrel rifle I just got. I am just a few steps ahead of you, but it seems the 308 is a bit different then other rifles. I've converted two Saiga 12's already. The way the original shitty 308 FCG is there is no rivets holding them in place. You won't have to worry about plugging up any holes at least. Just use a small flat head screwdriver and remove the shepard's crook on the scope rail side of the rifle, then the river holding the trigger comes out. Are you planning on reusing the old trigger guard? Either way, you have to take off the metal plate to access the new trigger hole and grip hole. Just a forewarning, I was suprised to find that right infront of the grip hole it seems they spot welded the plate to the receiver in two spots. I just cut the plate as much as i could to that point then grinded the rest off.

  5. My mistake, I was in a rush to type the original post before I had to leave for work. It's actually a 19incher.

As for the actual gas block, I don't believe the weld penetrated through to the threads. It looks like a globule of weld went down two sides of the threads. I will post pictures tomorrow of the damage.

My father actually went ahead and tried to do this for me on his own as a "surprise". In the pictures that I will post, I believe he had the front HK sight too close to the end of the Gas Block. I don't think he would have damaged it if it would have been a half inch further from the edge. Then, after he noticed the damage he tried to dremel down the globules past the threading so he could at least try to screw the gas plug in. I don't know if him dremeling it has completely blew up any chances of fixing the damn thing.

If it is FUBAR, we threw around the idea of just welding a small round metal plate on the end of the gas block to seal it up. I suppose all he really expects out of it is a semi functioning self-defense shotgun. Not even mentioning what damage that would cause to the back of the truinon, but would that option even work?

  6. Greetings gentlemen, first time poster here. I've been keeping up to date on these forums for the past year ever since I made the wonderfully life changing decision to purchase a 16" Saiga 12g. It warms me up knowing there is a place for Saiga lovers to commune.

I am a Saiga owner on a budget, so my conversion and custom work has been done by my hands. A few months ago, I decided I wanted to put the HK style sights onto my shotgun. I personally don't have a lot of experience behind a welder, but my father does. I questioned him about the different preferred methods of welding the sight on (TIG and Silver Soldering), all he knew was MIG welding. I knew it could be done with MIG, but it took greater skill to make it look professional.

Long story short, my father screwed up the threads inside of the gas block. He felt terrible about it, and the same day we drove to a local dealer and he bought me a brand new Saiga 12. Now he wants to repair my old shotgun. So my dilemma right now is I'm having trouble finding a dealer or importer that sells spare parts. I emailed four different importers three weeks ago, and haven't gotten a response back.

So is there anyone that can help me out in finding a spare gas block?
