  1. JB weld, duct-tape, and chewing gum should only be part a back-up plan "B", not plan "A".

I wouldn't rule out using it for certain "non-critical" areas on a gun though. IMHO

I did know someone who mounted a heavy fire-extenguisher to a metal "I" beam with aircraft-grade epoxy and it's still there.

Epoxy is used extensively in aerospace, but they don't use it in place of screws or rivets.

  2. Test case. Plain and simple.

I'll bet he turns to God and guns in times of trouble too...

He's gotta be one of "those".

The Feds, State Governments, Counties, Cities, Towns, and even some home-owners associations.... They all want to be little dictators.

What if 10, 20, or 30 more people lined up at LaGuardia and did the exact same thing?

Maybe gun-owners should take a page out of the civil-rights playbook.

This is how to challenge stupid govt. We had better start thinking about it.

Without organization I see alot of Ruby Ridge type scenarios in our future. Heaven forbid.

  3. Good 'ole 5606 hydraulic fluid.

I was a F-16D Crew Chief for a couple of years.

And we were both very "milspec" at the time, if I recall correctly. ;)

I've was ISO'd "to death" at my next job for the next 8 years (in private aviation).

They are both specific manufacturing standards.

  4. I had to do a little filing on the AKM tube (probably Romanian) I ordered, to get the latch to close, but it works and fits fine on my IZ-240.

Most parts on stamped AKs appear interchangeable, with minor fitting. That's the beauty of the design, regardless of country of origin.

Keep an eye on barrel diameters though.

    Just my cents.

  5. Reap what you sow, but expect worse.

I was bullied throughout school until each time I kicked the shit out of the kids.

Please tell me this is normal.......

That was 25 years ago and now I have my own 16 yr. old. Same advice.

We all have a breaking point.

Self defense is primitive and knows no age limit.

    The crowd inspires the fighting.

Convict anyone who witnesses the event as an "accessory" and the "social ladder effect" will disappear. But it couldn't be that easy....

  6. Yes, just avoid buying any "slip-on and pin" style breaks. They are usually cheap in design.

It all comes down to time and money.

The look you desire and the brake you pick out will dictate the work involved.

Check your barrel diameter before buying anything to ensure a proper fit, if you purchase a new FSB.

  7. You have many options for the muzzle

I guess if depends on what size threads your new brake will have once you have it picked out.

With no plunger, I would definitely, at the very least, drill and pin it. A good tack weld couldn't hurt either. Or both, after threading.

A 24mm Bulgy FSB has your threads so no tapping required, but your muzzle selection would be limited.

  8. I used Flat Black Rustoleum 2000 degree Engine Paint (baked on).

It has a slight gray-black color but I painted the whole rifle.

Get the metal hot to the touch before applying.

One coat appears resistant to solvent unless you scrub hard on it. Multiple coats would be best.

Acetone, scotchbrite, and lots of time to strip it all off, if needed.

Easy to touch-up but a little tricky to get a uniform appearance.

It holds oil really well for added corrosion resistance.

    Looks parkerized.

  9. When I installed my FSB I tapped it on with a mallet and then

laid the rifle upside-down on my granite countertop to see if I needed to reclock it. Worked great!

About as close to a legally-level surface as you can get.

  10. ClassicArms are great folks to deal with. I bought both my Saigas (7.62 and 5.45) from them.

There was an issue with my CC and it was rejected. It had a $300 online limit that had to be raised to make the purchase. Well I talked to two different girls i guess because a week later after getting the order fixed I get a call from the other. When I told her that the order was fixed she she said "no problem, I'll just put this rifle back into the inventory." I thought it was great that she was holding it for me a week later.

On the second purchase they even answered the phone several times after closing (and on a Friday) because my FFL was having an issue with his fax machine.

My 5.45 was purchased back in late Oct. and when prices dropped to $299 I grabbed my 7.62. :)

They have great customer service IMHO.

  11. I am new to the AK platform. And after all the reading I decided to purchase a Saiga in 5.45 (iz240) and did the conversion. Then the prices dropped $40 (US) and I just had to get another (in 7.62).

I haven't fired either rifle yet, but they are great lookers!!!!

My 5.45 is fully converted, front and back and sports black wood (the mismatched stained wood looked awful no matter what I did) and the typical AK-74 FSB and brake.

I just added a Hogue Pistolgrip and Tantal folding stock to my 7.62 last night! The front end will have to wait.

I'm a self-employed, small business owner specializing in residential painting and siding (went from $55,000 a year to $10,000 in the last three years). And "no", things are not getting better.

I'm glad my wife has a $15.00 hr job that keeps the bills paid. :/

It was my 40th Birthday and Christmas so I got permission!!!!

All of those dishes and laundry finally paid off :).

    Great rifles, for the money!!!!

    I also own a...

  12. I'm on Camano Island (we have a small bridge), 1 hour north of Seattle.

A word of warning.... Don't come knocking at my door between the hours of 9pm-6am :P

I just added two converted Saigas (7.62 and 5.45) to my collection.

THIS IS THE GREATEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!

(I hope my kids will keep it that way.)
