  1. Looks like I'm not the only one who found my satchel lately...027.gif Congrats on the conversion!!!

I have had the parts to convert #2, as I call her, laying around for a couple months or so..I finally found the time to run a hundred or so rounds downrange, had no issues, so I did the conversion this weekend. While I have another converted gun to look at I found the CSS videos very helpful. The drilling did have me questioning my skills or lack there of at first. I found it to be easier than building up a AR lower, damn detent springs...Hoping to do a function test in the next couple of weeks and then I will put the folder on...wanna test it first to make sure no issue with the conversion.

  2. I'm not a fan of either team...but it is the Super Bowl. I'll watch it because I love football and the commercials. Sorry you guys don't enjoy it....

    +1

Got some of the hunting buddies coming to watch the game....so today I am making a redhead duck gumbo, got some frog legs to fry up to serve with. Since most of the seasons are over it's a good time to get together and enjoy our harvest over a scotch and a cigar.

  3. I carry a beretta .40 s&w sub compact on a polymer frame. It's light and holds ten and I got a holster that holds a extra mag. I carry mostly in an urban areas so if it I need it is going to be up close and personal. I feel that 180 gold dot hps will do what I need at 20' or less. It's also easy to carry in warmer weather when you have less clothes to conceal. In SC it doesn't matter if the outline of the firearm can be made out as long and is it covered it is still considered concealed.

  4. It should be called CRAP Combat...It takes him longer to get into that sling than it does for me to empty a 20 round drum..

When your forward foot comes off the ground you have no control over your weapon...

I wonder if not having a solid rest point, like a shoulder, is causing those FTE....he clears a couple

  5. I talked to my wallyworld SG manager the other day...they might have 5 boxes of ammo total on the shelf. He said they got an email from corp stating the rumors of not selling ammo was false but he said the system will not let him place an order from the warehouse. Who knows...it's probably a little bit of everything list in this thread...LOL

I just hate to think the bulk pack days are gone....

  6. We have no limit on mag size here if you have it on the right license (standard license limit is 7 on Semi's), next step is to source a drum mag.

I have to say I feel a bit gutted that the Saiga 12 I bought doesn't have the last round bolt hold open functionally. I found an importer who's saiga 12's did have it but I didn't realize it was an optional thing only on the latest models.

If you can get a drum you have to film that hunt and post it for everyone's enjoyment...or at least mine..LOL

I agree LRBHO would be great. I don't use mine for hunting so it's not a big deal..you get used to it. A S12 mag that had LRBHO, like the AK yugo mag would be nice.

  7. I realize this isn't a Saiga but it is a shotgun and any feedback would be appreciated. I know there are duck hunters around.

I have had a A391 3.5" since '03 or '04....best hunting shotgun I have ever owned. Folds feathered critters like a lawn chair...eats anything I feed it....I have had it totally submerged in salt water, by accident....wet dogs and water filled decoys, and forgetting to cut the pump on during the ride back to camp....washed it out in the shower oiled it up and killed ducks with that evening....I have even used the butt for leverage to pry my feet out of the mud.

Lately I have found myself fondling the A400 every time I go into the LGS...I have even been pricing them at different places.018.gif In my research I can't find a lot of difference between them....Kick Off being the biggest and the extra coil on the gas relief spring. I just haven't been able to talk to someone that owns both...

Anybody have any experience with both, either personally or professionally? Is the new hotness, A400, worth getting if you already have A391? I have heard the A400 have issues cycling the 3.5" shells....which would be an issue b/c that is all I use when hunting divers in the sound.

    Thanks!

  8. there is always the appeal of a 20 rnd drum on ducks.

I have a dream like that about once a month during duck season....I am sitting in the blind in the grey time, to late to be dark but too early to be daylight, and one of those "clouds" of kamikaze red heads eats me up....the next minute is nothing but hulls hitting the bottom of the blind and ducks folding like lawn chairs.....funny thing is I always wake up before I empty the drum... but it is a great dream!!!!! Damn 3 round limit......

  9. The first gun I ever shot was my old man's 1911...I was 5. My Dad and his buddies were shooting cans off the back porch and they dropped a couple rounds under the porch...they told my brother and I if we found them we could shoot them..032.gif

The old man gave me my first gun a few months later it was a stevens westpoint model 948E youth chambered in .410. I hunted with it till I shoveled enough shit, literally, to buy my 870..it was a K-mart blue light special $199, $212 OTD. Still have it,the box, and receipt. The stevens is still used for backyard critter control.

  10. Hello

I don't know if it's something you would want to do, but if had it to do over again (I got a RRA LAR .308 when they first came out) I would score a set of "stripped" uppers and lowers by one of quite a few manufacturers such as Mega.

There are dozens of manufacturers who offer various barrels, uppers, stripped uppers and lowers, matched uppers and lowers, you name it, for the "DPMS pattern" .308 platform.

When these Stoner-based .308's were first being introduced companies were very lawsuit-happy about their "proprietary" designs. Armalite was probably the worst, they wouldn't even allow anybody to use a similar name.

DPMS changed all that, actually encouraging other manufacturers to copy their design, eventually becoming a "mil-spec" of sorts, in respect to the fact that parts were suddenly enjoying interchangeability, much like AR-15's.

That's when Magpul decided to enter the game with their P-mags.

If the AR10-A accept'd the P-mags, they may have jumped on the DPMS bandwagon as well, at least to a limit.

I would still prefer to have an aftermarket of many vendors, as opposed to just Armalite, as you would find with a AR-10. That's where I am with my Rock River. Only R/R parts will fit, but that wasn't their choice, that's where they were pushed by numerous lawsuits.

Check out Ranier Arms, they usually have a fair selection of .308 build parts, also 762SASS.com, I believe.

    JMHO....

Just watch out with DPMS uppers...they made two sizes. There is like .15" difference in them. Trust me I have a high profile Troy Quadrail in FDE for sale if anybody want to make and offer. It's not much but you can see it where the upper and the quad rail meet. I guess DPMS only wanted their quad to be used..Troy later came up with a Low Profile model...much later than my return policy allowed...so I now I have an extra....It worked fine just didn't look right.

  11. I just picked up some APG mags and they had locking issues on a newer gun but worked fine on an older gun..I found with a little elbow grease they would lock on the newer gun....I am just going to see if things don't start fitting better with use.
