Yes...I am going to send it out monday! I can wait a few weeks, weather is too sucky to go shooting anyways!
-
I think the you have to have Yugo mags to have the BHO feature on a Yugo...I may be wrong but I remember hearing that there was something different with the mags.

Ironwood wants $5 plus postage to do it...but PA to CA and back will be 2 weeks! I am a very impatient man! LOL...what to do, what to do?
-
Actually, my dad has a nice 3 speed drill press. I'd just need to find a long drill bit. I could make a jig out of 2x4's to keep it straight in the press. I did email Matt at Ironwood...maybe it is cheaper (and less work) to have him do it!
-
I bought a set of Ironwood foregrips and installed last night! Took a little sanding and fitting but overall, not too bad. One thing that is bugging me is that there is no hole in the lower stock for the cleaning rod. Any input on how I should drill it out? I don't have a drill press or any bits long enough to run it out. Maybe I can just drill in 3 inches and cut the rod to fit? Any suggestions?

NIce! I like the scallop on the shorty hand guard!
Has anyone seen wood like this for full size Yugo's?

I think AK is a 'platform' just like AR is. Within the AK Platform, there are many variants. Saiga is a variant with a pure bloodline whereas many other variants are not. I also think the only way to have a clone is to build an AK or AR variant to resemble some well know form that they once had such as a Vietnam era CAR-15 or a Desert Storm era Tabuk...or maybe a Red Dawn Maadi. Those to me would be clones. Otherwise it's all good! Saigas are not clones but rather well built AK variants.

Looks great! Nice work!!

Nice guns everyone! Keep the Yugo love coming!
-
Indeed! I'm glad I have one of each now!rocketfoot,if you only own one AK it should be a fixed stock model. Under folding stocks look nice but not much fun to shoot.
-
Another nice underfolder! Sometimes I wonder why I bought the fixed stock Yugo! LOL!!
-
Looks great, Armory! Nice job so far! I would love to have a Yugo UF to add to my collection...someday maybe!
I think I am going to try and smooth out the finish on my Yugo with tung or lemon oil. It is nice but a little thin in places.

It is a Century build but I was able to hand select it! The receiver is the heavy gauge one but the name escapes me at the moment. Is it a Century build or someone else's??
BTW.....NICE!
What receiver is it built on?
Here's a pic of part of my combloc family...

I only own two AK's (for now) the Saiga and a nice Yugo M70AB1...
I really like the Yugo, it lacks a chrome lined barrel but it is so much more robust than many AK variants out there (including my Saiga)!! I could literately use it to shovel snow and it wouldn't phase it one bit! This is how it looked when I got it...
The only thing I changed since I got it was adding a Yugo pistol grip. I couldn't handle the finger groove PG to well! Just recently, I changed the slant brake to a nighthawk flash hider from Bonesteel Arms, LLC. No pics of that just yet.

Thanks guys! That makes me feel better! LOL! Here is a photo of the Ironwood I ordered (used) I hope it fits and looks cool! I wanted Russian Red, but I couldn't pass this up for $30 bones shipped!
-
Nice! I have a Yugo M70AB1 but it has smooth wood.
-
Do a lot of people reuse the original TG? What is the difference between the two?
-
So, I'm showing off my new toy oer at arfcom in the AK section and someone said "Looks real nice but a shame they didn't change out the trigger guard..." I don't know, it looks ok to me? LOL! What's he talking about?
Also, If I swap foregrips for wood, can I use the existing gas tube or should I get another tube (the wood I ordered doesn't come with a tube)

Thanks! I'll get some better photos once my cleaning rod gets here!Mine is H04xxxxx so it must be 2004, correct?
correct. very good looking rifle too.
i was recently approached about one of my images of my 7.62 for the russian wiki page on saiga rifles. so i know what you mean about seeing them at random places. most people don't ask.

Mine is H04xxxxx so it must be 2004, correct?I can't remember the breakdown off the top of my head but you should be able to decode year of manufacture by the serial number.
-
Thanks guys!Very nice looking gun, and Nice pics. I wish I could take descent pics of anything I do.
I don't have a problem with you watermarking things, but do please keep the website off. I believe that would be a violation of our advertising rules.
Yeah, I watermark everything I post because my photos have wound up on gun blogs, forums and websites all around the web! LOL...i used to just use my RocketFoot logo but I recently added the website becasue I have tons of other photos from my gun collection in the gallery on my site. I don't really use the site as a business (read as: I don't make any revenue from it) but I do have some graphics and editing pricing listed there so I can't say otherwise, but believe me...I'm a heavy duty parts manager by trade. My site is just a hobby. I'll get the photos replaced with my regular water mark!
BTW...how can I tell what year this thing was manufactured in?

I emailed Atlantic to see if they had any production numbers or info on this batch of Saiga Underfolders, but they were unable to supply any details.
-
It seemed to chamber fine...no hang ups or anything, but I'll have to wait to hit the range to see how she handles semi auto fire.
-
Not yet, I just got it last weekend.
