Not until after the AWB sunsets. Shotguns ar allowed only one evil feature and in the case of the Saiga the detachable magazine counts as the one evil feature. So write you congresman and let them know that you (a regestered voter) want the AWB to sunset.

The AWB only applies to shotguns made after 13 September 1994.So ergo if you have a preban rifle and you simply change the caliber that does not affect it's status as pre or post. AR15s can be converted to a whole host of calibers and this does not affect their status.

Could a Saiga 12 be re built on a pre-ban ak receiver thus allowing pistol grip and butstock? I don't have my SAR here to measure receiver. Any body out there thought of this?

What did you do to your Saiga to make Class 3? Short Barrel? How short did you go with it? This is something I have been considering. I was worried about function with a short barrel though. How long did it take to get your SBS back from the ATF?

Hello
I have yet to look at a USAS 12 mag and am considering the same thing. The sticky thing is when you modify a magazine to work in another gun especially a post ban gun it still has to fit and function in the original weapon it was intended for or you have gone and produced a new magazine so that is out of the box. I would be curios if this is possible.

Tantal has the 2 round mags in stock his email is krink@cst.net tell him Pete sent you.
As for opening up the choke check with your local gunsmiths in the area, That is something fairly simple.

I think I am going to contact Tantal and see if he can't bring these things in. Hell if he can't get em well then there is something wrong on their end. I can't see the things being on any for of import restrict list.

Here is something I have noticed about the Saiga. The stock is way longer than a standard AK stock. What I was thinking is move the trigger gaurd up to where it would be if there was a pistol grip and then cut the original stock to fit the new position. that what once the ban sunsets, you simply change out the stocks and pistol grip and go to a US made fire control group and you will be in there. Opinions?

Part of the problem with the reload is this. The stupid magazine spring is the same spring that is used in the 10 round magazine. Cut about a thierd of it off and you still have reliable feeding but now you can insert you loaded magazine. Are you guys shooting in USPSA sactioned matches? There is a question going on the Brian Enos forum about the Saiga 12 being an open gun because of the magazine. What class do you guys shoot in? Also in the matches that you shoot, would anyone give you a hard time about using an 8 rounder or 10 rounder if you could lay your hands on one?

It's not so much the stage but the number of firing positions in the stage and how many targets you have to engage. It has been my experience that the most you seem to shoot from a single position is 6 targets. Even the cats running open guns with the big long extension tubes that hold 12 and 13 rounds never refill all the way back up after they empty their tube the first time. So then they are down to speedloaders which only hold 4... See where I am going with this. The shotgun portion of a three gun match isn't about how well you can shoot, everyone does ok, it's a shotgun afterall. IT"S ALL ABOUT HOW FAST YOU CAN RELOAD ! ! ! and that boys and girls is the bottom line. I have been practicing making reloads and I can now insert a loaded magazine into the gun with the bolt forward. It isn't nearly as hard as the first time I tried it. With a months practice under my belt I will be ready to give it a whirl next month. I feel like the lone voice in the wilderness... "the Saiga 12 will one day RULE the shotgun stages of three gun ! ! !

Hello
Well I am going to start running a Saiga 12 as my shotgun. I shoot in limited class so a saiga will fall into that, unless you mount optics and then that takes you in to open class. I have yet to shoot a mtach and it will be month or more till I do shoot one but I will let you know. I think the saiga 12 is the wave of the future of the shotgun stage of three gun. Shotgunning in IPSC isn't about how well you shoot, it's about how fat you reload and even with 5 round mags I think they will kick ass. I will keep ya informed as this progresses

It will be the end of next month but that will give me time to get 7 more magazines and run a bout 500 rounds through it before then. The fellas I compete with think the Saiga won't do well because of the 5 round mags. I reply, Laugh now non-believers ! ! !

Has anyone tried mag clamping two saigas side by side? If so What mag clamp did you use? My thoughts are that this would be a way to make very speady reloads. Start with the left mag inserted first then switch over to the right mag. Opinions?

I picked one up at a gun show this last weekend for $329.00 A little more than CDNN was advertising them for but CDNN is out of stock and I need to get this project rolling and start practicing my reloads.

first thee gun match a dismal failure...
in Saiga-12
Posted
Well my first three gun match with the Saiga went down in flames. The saiga suddenly developed a hang up where it failed to feed??? now the odd thing is the day before I had run 100 rounds through it with no failures what so ever. Also I am have to invent a bolt lock open on the last round for this thing. I have been practicing the hold the bolt hold open on the last round then insert a new magazine with the bolt back (cause ya gotta) and do ok but if you get off on your round count you are screwed. So in closing am I gonna stay with the saiga? Hell yes and once I get the bolt hold open figured out this thing is gonna rock
