  1. Got this from Carolina's site:

AKDAL MKA 1919 Trigger & Disconector

    SKU: AKDAL-TRIGGER

    T19-06 - Tromix Trigger & Disconector.

Tromix Trigger, Disconector, and Disconector spring are sold as a 3 piece set.

These parts are not interchangeable with, nor work with the OEM trigger, disconector, or spring.

This part set count as two 922® replacement parts.

thats odd, in the 922r thread i think tromix said otherwise but i may be mistaken. in my head, the tromix fcg and aftermarket hammer were 2 922r parts, but hey, i the ATF sees the fcg itself as 2 parts, thats fine by me :)

  2. And your point is....?

If they were more readily available we wouldn't even be talking about this...it would just be a matter of choice between products.

    I made my point.

I somewhat agree. This is a little different than the angled slots issue, which I actually was on your side ToothandNail on that issue.

But this issue (charging handle) is actually basing off someone else's original idea and work, which is a slippery slope my friend. Tread carefully

  3. I'm not seeing the need for a low power recoil spring, the ones we've tested run just fine with the stock spring after 100-200 rounds.

    Usually

Mine has a 75% cycling success rate with the stock spring and gas bushing.

May have been the magazine, I should really test this out using the new factory 10 round mags

  4. Well there are some performance modifications you can do, some that are purely aesthetic/cosmetic, and others for 922r compliance

Since you're obviously going to run high cap mags and you dont have the Firebird converted model, I suggest you replace these following parts first for 922r compliance

    http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?/topic/78652-atf-rules-there-are-14-922r-parts-on-the-akdal/page__hl__+1919%20+922#entry781121

    1. Gas piston (several companies make this for about the same price)

    2. Firing control group (you can get the best of the best and send your lower to Firebird and have them install their AR-15 FCG, or you can get the hammer, trigger and spring from Carolina Shooter's Supply)

    http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?/topic/80350-tromix-fcg-installwith-gallery-pics/page__hl__+1919%20+922#entry804670

    http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?/topic/80389-us-made-hammer-works-with-tromix-trigger-disconnector/page__hl__%2B1919+%2B922

    3. Choke

    4. Handguard (There are several options to choose from)

Some performance modifications I'd recommend would be to get a gas bushing and a low power recoil spring if you're going to run light loads. Then, maybe have your feed ramp worked on? That's still something I'll have looked at later on my 1919 when I have more money

You can also get a different charging handle. I like Salem 6's charging handle, but I got the Firebird one

  5. Jim would make a great partner on this site since there are a lot of competition shooters here. My short HG came in yesterday and I love it love it love it!!!!red_heart.gif It came with three rails too! I'm glad I held out for this forend. I almost went with someone else since originally you had to send your weapon in to have it installed. I have separation anxiety with my weapons greedy.gif. Now it is a simple, drop in installation! Well worth the money! Above and beyond the crappy factory setup with the front nut that can never stay tightened and flimsy HGs w/o heat shields!!! The left side CH is pure genius and makes this the HG to get! This will make a great race gun for sure!

    Three rails?

You mean a top rail, bottom rail, and side rail right?

  6. If they have some sort of contact number, I'd try to give them a ring. A lot of companies I know unfortunately take forever to reply via email, especially around the holidays. I ordered a replacement rice cooker inner pot because the teflon lining on my old one started peeling off but I had emailed them a question about it because I was uncertain about if I was going to be charged for shipping. Those jerks didnt reply back until 4 months later (but hey, at least they replied?)

Centerfire and RAAC have been horrible about replying to emails too, so I just call them during normal business hours and stuff gets done. Jim and Nancy @ Firebird and Tromix as well have been pretty good about replying to emails though, but still.. it's safer to just give these guys a ring

  7. Thanks fox. I saw this video on another thread and it looks pretty comprehensive.

The only stupid question is the one left unasked. Better safe than sorry

Some guys gave me flak for asking asking asking so many "dumb questions" and idgaf. At the end of the day, I sleep soundly in bed knowing what my capabilities and skills are. Not knowing what some stupid little part is called or some procedure is no skin off my bones, but I'm sure as hell gonna ask and learn.

Let me know how it goes at the range. I shot with the gas bushing and it helped a little but I still had some malfunctions, though that couldve been the magazine. I picked up a low power spring too, so I'm going to see if that helps any especially with these new 10 round mags. If all else fails, I'll get the feed ramp worked on

  8. The Tromix booster greatly reduces gas loss from the bypass, with a light spring as well, It would help quite a bit to get lower power stuff to run.

I went the other way, and use a completely different operating system because we never intend to shoot 3" or very heavy 2.75" shells.

If your handguard can move when locked down...check the dowel pin fit in the front of the upper.

As of late I have seen the pin hole vary in diameter.

And make sure the handguard retention nut and lock screw are secure

    Jim

Thanks for the info, I'll give it a try with some light loads

The pin fits but maybe the hole is a little bigger? I'll check it when I get home from work, but the handguard retention nut and lock screw in the nut are as tight as I can do it. The side to side wobble happens around the rear of the handguard near the pin, but it isnt much. We are talking millimeters of movement here

I was wondering if I was supposed to screw down the nut on the top rail a bit more so that it touches the barrel (like the factory front sight does) or something

EDIT: I got lazy, wrapped the dowel pin in a thin layer of teflon tape, and the wobble is gone lol

  9. The short handguard was developed primarily for competition guns and was intended for low recoil ammunition

It eliminates the the gas bypass spring, cup and thumbnut.

The actual bypass piston is left in place but can not move forward to dump gas pressure.

This handguard is just under 9 inches long.

This system will shoot all 2.75" shells, but for the highest power 2.75" stuff it is best to use the heavy recoil spring.

The long handguard retains the gas bypass and can shoot the 3" shells.

It is about 10.5 inches long.

As with the stock system, low power shells do not work as well.

I hope this helps clear up the questions

    Jim

If I install a low power spring and a gas bushing with the long HG, you think that would work just as well with low power loads when compared to the short version?

Also, a little side to side wobble with the HG is normal right? With the magpul AFG, it doesnt matter much since I'm pulling the HG back and tight anyhow

  10. It looks like there is no picatinny rail on the sides; just on the top of the handguard. So where would you mount a weapons light?

Mine came with a rail on the right side (the one without the charging handle) and a rail on the bottom. I mounted my AFG on the bottom and I'll mount my surefire light on the right side rail once my mount comes in

  11. Damn thats slick! Is that the full length (long) HG? How's the weight? I ordered the original (short), because I thought the short one already looked heavy but that looks badass and not too heavy.

Yeah, its the full length long version

The weight is not too bad. Def noticeable from the stock 1919, but the average man can do a course with this setup

EDIT: you cant shoot 3inch shells in the short HG

  12. I had no idea Jim made two versions. I can't find pics of the long HG. What a great price at $199! Too bad CSS doesn't carry them yet, otherwise there would never have been an issue!

This is what the long HG looks like :3

    CompletedMKA1919Firebird.jpg

The top of the barrel in the pic is pretty much where the barrel ends anyways, so it gives you a pretty good idea of how long the HG is. I believe the short version is 2/3 the length, maybe 1/2.

The long one says back ordered but the short one says now shipping 10/17. I ordered the short one since it is probably lighter - hopefully those are shipping now.

I had ordered mine 3-4 months ago, I called last Thursday and they said it would ship the next day, arriving on Monday. And mine did came with the bottom rail section, the side rail section on the right side, and just the charging handle on the left side.

yea i didn know either. i cant remember were i read it (and it should be verified) you cant shoot heavy loads with the short one.

I can confirm that the short version ONLY allows 2 3/4 shells, as it shortens the gas bypass system or something

EDIT: Jim confirmed in another thread that you cant shoot 3 inch magnum shells in the short version, but you can shoot any 2 3/4 shells

  13. The part you circled is the barrel extension

It is internally threaded, and the barrel has external threads.

To do what you want, it would be best to remake the entire assembly as the clocking of the extractor groove and gas take off would move over repeated assembly/dis-assembly.

I do know two barrel lengths are or will soon be available.

several companies make aftermarket barrels for a number of popular shotguns.

When this gun reaches high enough numbers, and demand is great enough they may make options .

its a real pain to make a gas block from scratch for this gun, and the barrel profile is a bit odd to reproduce on a barrel blank.

It can and has been done, but its not worth the time and materials at this point.

    Jim

    Thanks for the update.

So pretty much once more people start picking up this shotgun, companies may risk taking the dive on such things. At least its a feasible project. Thanks again

I am not yet a direct dealer on the forum, I may join but I am better at engineering and manufacturing than at retail....

My intent is not for work or sales, but more as a source of information pertaining to the MKA .

As such I must refrain from quoting prices of work we do or parts we sell.

The only reason I included the ramp in my post is that in some guns it is the only option to repair a broken ramp, or improve feeding if the factory ramp is causing problems.

ARR ramps are not a do it yourself item, they require CNC machining and special fixtures to correctly install.

    Jim

Roger that, I'll give you a ring after the holidays ;)

  15. I wonder how hard would it be to make an aftermarket barrel adapter that will allow you to screw in and use different sized barrels, some already rifled or ported/compensated from the factory?

Or hell, with all sorts of different front sights

It'd be interesting to have a kit with a regular 18 inch barrel, a longer and rifled barrel for slugs, and maybe a shorty barrel for SBS

Any companies out there considering this? Especially now that factory highcap mags are out and more people should be buying a 1919.

(circled is the part of the barrel where I imagine an adapter could be made where the rest of the barrel could just screw in)
