  1. If you have the side mount rail, you could try this.

It's the UTG PRO U978S/MTU016 quick detach double rail side mount.

  2. I ran into this when I was unit armorer in the Guard.

I had one M-16A1 begin firing while in safe. The weapon had just been certified, which checks trigger and hammer pin holes for wear. If these holes are worn, double firing may occur, as well as, firing when in safe mode. I then pulled the hammer pin and removed the hammer. The sear notch was full of hard black residue and the sear surface on the trigger was coated in the same. There was no metal to metal contact between the two. I then cleaned both parts and reassembled. I could no longer make the weapon fire while in safe mode. I checked the rest of the mechanism for play in the trigger and hammer. Everything was solid with no play. I got out the micrometer and checked the parts against specifications and everything was in tolerance even with very minor wear visible. After reassembly, the weapon was put through 10 function checks and passed every one.

This leads me to believe that the buildup of residue on the sear surfaces CAN cause this malfunction. I cannot see how this is possible with the way everything is built, but it still happened!

As the trigger components involved are identical on both AR-15 and M-16 series rifles, this should apply to both types.

Keep the sear notch on the hammer and the mating surface on the trigger as clean as possible, and do not allow a buildup of dirt to occur, as it may cause your rifle to malfunction.

    Please spread the word!

  3. You ought to see the shit stringers we hire! One on a summer gig had the job of unstacking and setting up tradeshow tables with another person. At the end of the day he bitched, "That was the hardest I ever worked in my life!" One of our people told him, "Don't come back!"

I'd love to see him have to lay moldy plywood deck and carpet all day! Now "that's" hard work!

And don't get me started on the one who couldn't even remember how to spell his last name on his timesheet!

Welcome backstage! Where low-life and hi-tech collide!

  4. I'd rather have the EOTech, but I ain't got the bucks. I was looking at a Tru Glow scope type, but I ran into a guy that had problems with it being bright enough on sunny days. The Sightmark uses a laser like the EOTech, and is pretty damn bright at full output. This one's cheap at $44.99, and doesn't block out much, which is good for hunting. I'd want to be at least somewhat careful of it, and not bang it much, which is another reason I went with the QD UTG mount.

I want to keep the second rail for a green laser. I had one of the LS-45 HeNe's when they first came out. Bagged 2 perps with it on my Mini-14 when they tried stealing the camo net off my duck blind. Came out the front door, turned on the laser and yelled "FREEZE!", and those boys shit their pants on the spot! Cops picked them up from the kneeling leg crossed, hands behind the head position, and then found a pipe! 10 oz subdivided bag o green in the glove compartment, and multiple cut off depthfinders and other marine hardware found in the trunk in addition to my camo net. A laser is a good thing to have on a HD gun, as they KNOW they're dead meat if they continue!

We'll see what happens tomorrow when I sight it in.
